am sorry, BUT FUCK THE POLICE, AND FUCK THE POLICE STATE!!!!

I have no use for pigs and their LOOK AT ME, I HAVE A GUN AND A BADGE.

I have never needed the police, and i never will.
and if i had the chance to watch one die? oh hell yeah, how sweet it would be.

and we aint in Damascus, we are in america, so what happens there, while bad....is not my concern.
we have our own damn problems here.

sorry, i hate the police and the fact that the US is becoming a police state, thanks to GWB.
you raging brah? Yeah no need for police. What dream world do you live in? Have you ever been to cities like Watts, Compton, Boyle Heights? Places where if normal people walked down a street at night they could possibly get either 1)mugged 2) harassed 3) get your shit pushed in. O yeah don't need them police to at least deter violent crimes. Yeah its most certainly alright for you to watch and celebrate a death of a person. NEWS flash, not all police are bad, just like not all minorities are criminals.

Typical American attitude, "if shit doesn't affect me I don't care". Do you even know what a police state is? rofl stop repeating shit that other people say.

GOD LAO FTW!!!
Well, the actual police are a lot different than DHS and TSA. Most of the cops I've met have been pretty cool, honestly, some are assholes but they're on delusional power trips. Cops are second rate citizens, and most of the non-macho asshole cops realize this, and realize that it's just a job. Sure, occasionally there's some dickhead cop, but in the grand scheme of things I'm glad that the decent ones who aren't corrupt uphold the law.

I don't want gangbangers to have free roam and have drive-by shootings on every street corner, drug dealers on every corner, and pedophiles at every playground.
I somewhat agree, i just personally have no use for them, and yes, they are supposed to serve us who pay their wages.
But when you are hispanic like me, and or another minority, and you get stop like 10 times a year, cus you fit the description? hell naw, and then you see the cases like this one here
makes you lose fate in all of them.
Then Troy Davis....and ill leave it there, look up Troy Davis to know what am talking about.

My apologies to have kept things off track.

lets us all please get back on track, this is about Spooky getting his shit stolen by the DHS, nothing more and nothing less :)

I'm sorry, but that's not a problem related to being a cop, a doctor or a fireman. You don't become racist when you're a cop. You can't blame the police or the whole army just because a lot of americans just happen to be racist fucks.

Most people who say that to me aren't minorities (or not muslim/Arabic.) , so they don't understand how it feels to get lit up every time youre around authority.

I'm part of same group of people than you ("minorities"), yet we don't have cops like that in Canada.

So again, "the police" is not really the problem here. It's the american mentality and xenophobia.

Anyway, sorry I didn't want to derail the thread. We should probably get back to the real topic.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I thought you were in the US. Canadian mounties generally are pretty lax compared to US police

Don't know if anyone here knows about p2p/torrents and release groups etc but there is a release group called spooky. Maybe that has something to do with it. Most of the targets are usually filesharers AKA "pirates/counterfeiters". All these domain seizures that have taken place recently have almost exclusively been p2p related sites. Anyhow just speculation, not stating that spooky are the p2p group nor pirates. I still can't fathom why the government would target spooky, makes no sense.

Not to derail the topic, but that song at the beginning of Frame Trap sounds like it has samples of MJ and will.i.am's P.Y.T. 2008 remix.

I'd bet money that one of those DHS guys are going to start playing fg's after watching all the godlike play. EMP's going to be revived under a government contract.

Whether we like it or not we need the police. Whether we like it or not, there's going to be racist authority figures. Whether we like it or not. Whether we like it or not there's ALWAYS going to be the police. So enough of this complaining about the cops and we need to realize the COPS AREN'T THE ONES WHO DID THIS. We all know who spooky is but airport/bus station security might not. They probably had their reasons and doesn't make them wrong. This thread should be about showing concern for spooky and I wouldn't put past opening a donation drive if he doesn't get his stuff back for all the GREAT things he does for us. All the traveling he does so WE can enjoy all these big tournies that we can't afford to travel to. So let's show our support to SPOOKY and not putting the cops on blast when they had NOTHING to do with this.

Umm, as someone who was there..no. Just no. Thanks for the support though, but DHS really had no reason to light up Spooky

I don't know the whole story, at least they probably thought they had a good reason. But I do think the whole situation is silly that they did take it.

This may be just an outsider's opinion, but I don't see too many people trying to see it from Homeland security's POV. They live their lives day in and day out knowing that if anything does happen, either they will be the first victims or the ones expected to eliminate the threat. They must live their lives in a constant state of alert/fear even though odds are nothing will happen. Like someone cocking a fist but not immediately punching you with it so all you can do is wonder when and where it will hit.

Let's take a look at the few facts we do have. Two young adults walking through an airport with at least one of them carrying a large amount of electronic equipment. Earlier in this thread, someone that knows Spooky personally mentioned that he gets nervous around authority figures. Now, if someone is nervous around you, isn't your first instinct to wonder why they are nervous? He may not have even seemed nervous to the officers, if he was figeting, he might haave come across as shifty. Either way, that would give the impression that he has something to hide. Add to that the bag of specialized equipment and, in HS's eyes, you have a possible threat. There is no way that HS could know before detaining him that all Spooky was doing was travelling to Canada to stream a live event.

Which reminds me of another point: In today's society, everyone has a laptop. Not everyone has a gun. A gun would be an easier marker for a threat. Ever wonder how many laptops go unscreened that might have child pornography on them? Video threats from terrorists? Videos of My Little Pony? It's HS's job to know the things that we, as law-abiding citizens couldn't possibly or don't want to know.

In addition, you never know what might have set the officer off. Jokes were made earlier about samples of things that were said, but what if that wasn't a joke? Maybe something completely innocuous to us, as part of our everyday lexicon triggered something in one of the officers? We'll never know.

Now, before I get flamed to oblibion, understand that I am not "siding" with Homeland Security. I do agree that what happened to Spooky sux and I do hope that he gets his gear back. All I'm asking for is a little compassion and understanding for both sides. If the officers are proven to be racist, or to have been employed by HS a little bit longer than maybe they should have been, deal with that at that time. Until then, we have to trust that they are doing the best they can.

And for those of you whining about living in a police state, please take another look around. Iraq under Saddam Hussein was a police state. Hitler's Germany was a police state. Just the fact that you are able to complain about living in a police state without a bullet in your skull means that you do not live in one. Yet, at any rate ;)

Wait, so we're supposed to give up our rights because DHS has an itchy trigger finger? There's nothing illegal about having electronic equipment and/or acting nervous, so why should we be compassionate and understanding when someones rights go out the window?

You can thank the Patriot Act for that. They are just doing their jobs.

I was going with the crowd, thinking how HLS was retarded and etc, but after reading this well thought out post, I think I'm going to refrain from making judgmental calls when I dont know the full details. Besides, youre right, they are just doing their jobs after all.

You are a security guard at the bank. Someone is looking nervous and looking around, constantly looking around, very twitchy, whatever. Of course you're going to give him a little extra attention. Same goes for the DHS, they have to be thorough. Now, there is a different argument of whether it is the DHS that makes people nervous or people being nervous brings DHS attention. This a chicken or the egg argument and that is irrelevant.

The guys were simply doing their job. There is a whole different question of profiling or what not, but considering the situation, yes, a lot of equipment can qualify as a case for review. Weather or not they are are really over reaching their boundaries here will be decided if and when sp00ky gets his shit right. Yes, it is wrong for some people to profile the general public, and yes, it is wrong to over step own boundary issues. But let's not judge the many by the actions of the few because this is the kind of shit that creates these confrontations. I mean people spit down on authority and is authority supposed to act nice about it? Yes there are those who are simply wrong, and those are the cases that usually go public, not the cases of an officer getting injured in a line of duty or preventing a crime, those are just "them doing their jobs." So yes, I think it is reasonable to consider both sides of the argument. I don't go to Wendy's and talk down to a clerk if they ask me what kind of combo I want...

Like I said, I feel that it is wrong that they confiscated and sp00ky should most definitely seek some sort of action towards either getting the equipment or getting reimbursed at the very least. But no conclusion should be jumped to until we find out if they return the equipment confiscated after inspection.

Ninja Edit: I know that not being part of a minority I will never truly understand this, and yes my argument may be jaded by that lack of perspective, but I am just trying point out that this kind of directed hostility is what escalates this tension and creates more issues like these.

I strongly feel that most crime is caused by the fact that people are not given the chance to take the responsibility for their own freedom. People turn against 'the system' because this system turned against them first. I also feel that defending police or DHS in these kind of matters sounds to me a lot like Stockholm syndrome.
