That’d be weird if competitive variations were locked to competitive modes only, and you had to create them yourself if you want to practice...

First scenario is literally impossible and the second one, maybe, but it'd be no big deal and the practice mode itself probably has an option for that just like Injustice 2 where you'd just flick a switch and put Tournament mode on for every character.

It’s not impossible at all. If you enter Ranked or Tournament mode, they could simply show you only the two preset variations and nothing else. Meanwhile keeping them completely separate from your custom load outs, so they don’t take up any of your 5 available slots. It actually makes perfect sense.

Uh, what you described is very much so probably what is going happen, but what I meant by "impossible to happen" is those variations being available ONLY on those modes and nowhere else at all, like you wouldn't able to recreate them through kustoms or use them in training mode.
