Match-up Discussion Skarlet Vs. Kabal

~ This is part 2 in a series of community discussions on specific matchups for Skarlet. Our goal is to pool our information and opinions together on specific matchups, in an attempt to find any sort of advantage that Skarlet can achieve in these matchups. Hopefully with our knowledge combined, we can take Skarlet to another level of SMART play.

~ The rules are simple, NO FLAMING each other, and NO CRYING FOR BUFFS OR NERFS, for Skarlet or for the opposing character. We are discussing the game at hand, not attempting to change it. All players are welcome and all opinions are valid, as long as they are in service to helping each other get better in the specific matchup that we are discussing. We will discuss one opposing character at a time, and we will give each discussion a week before we move on so we can truly dig deep. If you have a suggestion for the following weeks opposing character, feel free to mention it, then we will vote, and introduce that character the following week.



To quote Tom Brady at UFGT yesterday: "The era of Kabal has begun". We might as well start this conversation up asap as it seems the Kabal train is full steam ahead. Why not try to shut it down.

Kabal is a bad matchup for , pratically, the entire MK9 roster, so, no surprise he is a pain in the ass for Skarlet players, hehe :D

I'll type up more late but being able to interrupt his b121 string is pretty big in a matchup like this, especially cuz it can esentially eliminate that string as an option and condition him to only use the f32 string. Her hitbox also makes 2 ndc whiff which is important as well.

All right, ok .... :cool:

  • Maybe Skarlet could use her double dagger, randomly, to "check" Kabal's nomad dash attempt, more or less as Sektor try to do using that fire thrower move
  • While Kabal is a total beast using his NDC pressure, if Skarlet can put Kabal against wall corner, maybe she can "eat him alive" with blockstring pressure ? I think Skarlet seems better in this fundament than Kabal .....
  • Skarlet teleport on reaction to Kabal's iAGB = good or bad ?
  • Skarlet Ex Red Dash between Kabal's NDC combo sequence = works or not ?
  • IF Kabal start to use iAGB as spamming tactic, maybe trade blood ball ,could be .... useful ?

hey guys, just thought id show some risky but readable attempts in this match. just things i know on wakeup. ill try and find more for stand fighting. and there were some things missing in this vid i thought i had did, but missed, so ill get more soon. im always studying this and kenshi matchup for my skar.

yea i can see most of these good, except bloodball, cuz i think hed stop firing and block, then continue lol, but ill find out.

and yea, skar can stuff kabals dash anytime with dag cancel or just toss both, on his wakeup or random read. she can also stuff scorp and sektors wakeup ports, as well as noob and quan, with a well timed dagger toss reaction.

it is even. emp_scar and cat go back and forth with the matchup. ex red dash beats ex nomad dash everytime. kabal is limited to certain strings and skarlet can armor thru ndc if timed right making him think twice about doing them so much. Skarlet can teleport on reaction from full screen even to stop iagb and i think she can do the d1 to dagger approach if he tries doing them up close. throwing both daggers stops ex dash except on wake up ex dash. This is a 5-5 MU imo.

Wait you made it sound like it's in Skarlet's favor, what can Kabal can do against her? And I don't really think you can judge this matchup off of just 2 people playing it.

my bad...it does sound that way huh. I thought we were mentioning what we can do against him. I think we have enough video footage of what kabal can do.

I dont think skarlet is defenseless in this match up. I like doing eh red dash up slash to catch him doing iaf. (not teleporting...bad idea most of the time).

I also like using delayed daggers to make him think twice about eh dashing. I also like her pressure against him. He can armor through but it's a complete read like Sonya cartwheel. She can keep him from zoning too much because saw gets blown up by eh dash down slash and every one can get around iagb if they are patient enough. I picked her up specifically for kabal. Much discussion already happened in the thread I made below.

And I don't know if they are faster than kabals but they have instant recovery like kabals do...they are harder which by default makes them less effective and slower.

REO says is 6-4 in Kabals favor.
He can flash parry skarlet strings if there is a gap
the problem is that Skarlet players leave no gap, and he has gaps on his NDCs strings

Well I can. Idc if hes the best in the game, give legit reasons why Kabal beats Skarlet? Just cuz a match is 6-4 doesnt mean its not winnable, i.e. Reo's Kabals vs. F0xy's Rain...

I dont know what Im talking about here so Im honestly asking: Wont the fact that kabal is airborne when shooting iagbs in fact make the iads more effective since you don't need to shoot them as low to the ground?

This would be assuming you have projectile advantage of course. Maybe you can force him to stay on the ground with iads, if you shoot first and hit him your instant recovery allows you to duck the incoming iagb. If he saws your instant recovery allows you to avoid it. Cant spam it of course, you would have to alternate between that and grounded dagger cancel to keep the threat of the double dagger (to beat Exnd) alive. Thoughts?

You might have a point. But skarlet cannot trade while zoning. She will take too much damage while delivering nothing.
