Rambo Gameplay Trailer

I think Reiko is dope.

Having said that, I know what you said is correct. Rambo (and all other guests) would outsell him like crazy. NRS/WB don't add guests because they don't sell well. All they care about is money, as they should.
Well said.

I remember when Mortal Kombat was about more than making money off of DLC, but that's the whole damn gaming industry right now.
John Rambo is one of the baddest motherfuckers ever to exist in any capacity, and I mained Leatherface in MKX, so I'm the last person to ever give someone grief over being hype for a guest character. But as you said, I just wish they'd put as much effort into making the game fun as they do making their guests marketable.

So. . .like, MKvDC? or Armageddon? Cause they had DLC planned for both of those.

For a video game, market value and fun are synonymous. Guests sell well because many people find it fun to play with instantly recognizable characters with tons of pop culture cachet and nostalgic connection. Many people find it less fun to play with obscure characters from deep within a rando lore-base that only a few people remember and feel any connection to.

If it were true that "people actually wanted" Reiko, he'd be in the game.

Dankster Morgan

It is better this way
Yeah if theres a shirtless skin thats the way to go for sure imo

I think Rambo is more of a legit character that doesn't feel as dumb as fuckin Robocop or Leatherface (Robocop 1 and the first Texas Chainsaw movie are good though). First Blood was legitimately a good movie (I think not only is it a badass action movie, but the substance of the movie it's self is somewhat underrated), getting Sly is really cool as well.

What does this even mean? I don't give a fuck about Reiko, but he obviously has people that want him in. People wanted Fujin and Noob in MKX, but they never showed up in that game

Mortal
I hope these moves make it into his base kit or rank variations.
Claymore
Crawl
Log swing
Snare trap
Command throw

The rest of his moves shown I could live with or without it.

I was very disappointed Rain lightning strike move is only in customs so I don't want to get too excited yet for Rambo until I see the next Kombat Kast.

I'm so thankful we got Jason, Leatherface, Predator and Alien in MKX and not MK11. The guests in MKX were absolutely fucking awesome and ALL of them were fun to play. They'd be boring as fuck in MK11, like the rest of the roster.

actually they were all bad everyone hated them and nobody wanted them and they shoulda gave us reiko in mkx instead

I think Reiko is dope.
Why? I never played the earlier games so I have no idea what his deal is. Just seems like an angry muscle guy, which is the MK equivalent of saying your favorite food is pizza. I don't love the Rambo franchise, but I get why the character fits in well in a cheesy fighting game, and I understand the excitement. Reiko, though? I don't see where the appeal is.

Not really a fun, but I must admin, that someone with a brain and creativity sat to Rambo, unless Terminator, who at a times has give a shades of Jason.

Since WB owns Boons @ss, they will stick those American iconic faces, wherever they can, whether Ed likes it, or not.

Noob Saibot was supposed to be in MK4, but they decided to replace him with a new character and give him his moves. Then just made Noob a secret character instead. He's just a teleporting Ninja Star throwing guy. Armageddon they played on his obsession with Shao Kahn and actually gave him some of Shao's moves where he even temporarily gains a Kahn helmet.

People like Reiko's design, but I don't think they really care about his moves. Goes for most 3d era characters.

I feel like Terminator's design was intentionally designed to invoke Jason's playstyle.
Personally, I don't mind that. Seems like a nice olive branch to extend to all the Jason players out there. That's one of the problems with maining a guest character, unlike a core cast member it's highly unlikely they'll come back in a sequel.

KCJ506

Kombatant
I'm actually impressed. His moveset seems to make use of both his bow and his knife, trap moves such as snares and claymore mines, moves that are legitimately meaty in their execution and no overuse of his guns.

I don't think "people actually wanted" Bo Rai Cho in MKX. But he was still DLC there.

I'm glad I know you well enough to know you like the stir the pot, because MKX had literally some of the best and most satisfying guests in fighting game history, IMO.
I hope Rambo is as good as the MKX guests were and gives me reason to pick this game up again, because I'm going to be disappointed on both our behalves if he turns out to play like just another character once you get past how cool he looks.

This roster is 90% pretty faces with nothing going on upstairs, and I want John to be the exception.

This is my problem, as put simply by someone else:

Mortal Kombat has almost completely gone from being its own original entity to just another head of the WB hydra, which is why we have a story mode that makes less sense than a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin getting it on, and a "competitive" meta and ranked mode that are built to cater to Call Of Duty level casual players rather than actual competitive players. And if that's how it has to be for there to keep being MK games, then it is what it is. They COULD turn this into Armageddon and add the entire roster to this game over time, and it won't mean a thing if the gameplay is still as linear and watered down as a straight line under a deep lake.

But again, I repeat: I WANT RAMBO TO BE DIFFERENT. And if they couple this triad of characters with ditching the pseudo-variation system, my entire opinion and outlook on this game will be open to change.

Also: after seeing Rain not get his lightning, I'll be surprised if either the Rocket Raccoon trap or that little ground mine actually make it into a tournament variation.

You could put all 3 of those characters together
rambo would outsell them 10 to 1

The character people are willing to spend money on is the character people wanted. Nobody wants Reiko.
They should complete the roster with Link from Zelda, LeBron James, and Leo Messi then. They'll outsell Rambo 10 to 1. :D

I feel like the action star guests have been kinda low budget this time around(in terms of animations, etc.) but I forgot how much I like Rambo.

Fucking badass

Sure--it's safe to say that every character, no matter how obscure, has someone who wants them in. But I wasn't talking about all or none; obviously the number of fans (stans?) matter.

We may never know if Mileena was truly going to be left out of MK11, or if NRS always planned to include her and was just trolling us, but either way, her fan base is obviously so large and persistent that she may well have been pushed in by sheer popularity. My point was that if you see that for Reiko (or any other character), they'll be in the game too.

I don't think "people actually wanted" Bo Rai Cho in MKX. But he was still DLC there.
I don't think any of us really understand the NRS "formula" for picking a roster. Most of the MK1-2 OGs always make it in, because they're popular and are a core part of the MK setting and story. Guest characters always make it in, because they're popular (as a concept) and they're a core part of the larger MK culture.

Other than those givens, who knows? Popularity and demand are obviously important (see Mileena) but also obviously not the only factors. I could make guesses as what other decision factors are, but they'd only be guesses.

I really wouldn't build up any hope that a character in a game will somehow transcend that game in a way that someone not enjoying it is magically going to start.

That characters still has to play by the established rule set. That character still has to play against all the other characters and deal with the same stuff people complain about. Nothing else has changed, and every time someone puts a load of hope on a character, they are left disappointed because characters can't carry all that or change the game.
