No. We have the official patch but not the hotfixes. So Kano doesn't lose health on Ex-buff, the run cancels aren't fixed, etc.

This thread is killing me. So much theory, so little solid evidence. We can whine about how great Liu's offense is while totally disregarding his defensive options in a cast riddled with 50/50s and vortexes. So he has a super tight skill capped string that he can loop. Compared to much of the cast that isn't saying much.

You have to put it all into perspective. It is really short sightes when an argument is "character x doesnt have this so why does character y?". There are many things liu lacks that other in the cast don't.

Did i see someone STILL bitching about liu kang here?in a game with easy 50/50s, 1 bar 40% combos, pseudo unblockable vortexes that almost all require way less execution than fireball run cancels? Have a seat. People got the nerf to liu kang that they cried for (his pseudo block infinite). We dont want to hear anymore complaining, let us figure out our character in peace.. but anyway, liu is still good imo. I can definitely still jail but its honestly not needed. Liu kang punishes people who press buttons and we all know people in this game love to mash buttons. We dont need to rely on completely jailing an opponent. I play liu kang now, the way ive always played him and the results are still the same guys :). Hes alive

This defensive stuff I'm not buying. He's got a 6f jab that confirms into a combo, 13f armour to mash out that is nearly safe (plus with an extra bar), ex bick kick to armour out of string gaps, and a low profile poke.

Dualist has weaker defence, but ex flying kick in DF is a decent reversal. Why people are still using back fist as the go to I don't know when only a few characters can punish flying kick on block. Yes he has to use 2 bars to get the flying kick, but when you then put them into a position where they're jailed on block for several repetitions of F213, you build that bar back pretty quickly.

Pre-patch Quan Chi had bad defence. Liu Kang doesn't have bad defence; he doesn't have amazing defence but the options are there.

People who claim all this is theory fighting are also the kind that need to see other people doing this stuff instead of just thinking for themselves when the answers are right in front of them.

How much do I have to pay you for you to go away permanently?

It is like the main weapon of Dragon's Fire and it shouldn't be gone entirely. As a Champion of Mortal Kombat he is allowed to take that cheap damage out of you.

Unlike other pressure characters, Liu Kang doesn't have cheap 50/50 combo starters.

I was doing 3f link blockstrings with lao prepatch using a high move, pretty sure lius is easy enough, 3f is plenty of time.

Who are the pressure characters with 5050s? Cage, Kang, Lao all dont have 5050s

Just so you know, Ex Dragon Kick (Double Dragon Strike) is not a safe reversal. It's a high, so you can duck it and punish with D2 on reaction every time as he crosses over. The armor will also be gone by then, so you're eating the damage and dealing with the wakeup situation again.

This is an actual question and has no intended negative undertone. Since you are a very high level tournament player, why do you think no one has been particularly successful as DF Liu in the tournament scene? Also, why aren't more players picking him up.

Beforehand he was just plain rediculous, but it was the execution I think.

Of all the Liu Kangs I've seen there's only been 1 that executed his stuff properly AND (an incredibly important 'and' here) understand his gameplan.
So thats on the players I suppose. Personally I thought pre-patch DF Kang is exactly the type of character REO should have played.

Another factor I believe is, people flock to characters they see that are successful on streams. Liu isnt often there, and when he is its not DF.

what tips would you give a liu kang player who wants to play him effectively or "understand his style"

Its not about downplaying or up-playing or whatever. .the bitching about liu kang needs to stop. Can't even discuss tech or the options he has against certain characters without people bitching. .its not like the damn character is winning and tournament's or causing any chaos. People don't use liu kang because of all his execution for (at times) minimum results. Why use him when u can use cassie,lao,sonya,quan,shinnok, or any other top tier that does more for less..at least thats why some of the yomi players told me when i asked. The bitching needs to go to other threads. Liu is not a shitty character, but just because people acknowledge that he isnt some God character like other people think, doesn't mean its downplay....that word is tossed around alot these days.

d2 on reaction to it whiffing? No way am I buying that. It's a high but on whiff recovers very fast and very few characters can punish on whiff.

What are you talking about? At what point did I just say nerf Liu Kang? I think he's fine now.

How much would I have to pay you to actually think about something before you post and stop downplaying Liu Kang?

I Completely agree your statement on downplaying. Actually we are just defending the character while others are uplaying Liu Kang by saying he is fine while deep down they all know he is not. Now someone will say his f213rc jails but man i can take the last hit all day and escape his pressure easily. If he gets a 6f d1 or an overhead launcher maybe he'll be.
