…Is there some hate boner I’m not aware of in regards to SonicFox? Is it the whole furry thing?
I certainly didn't. I made a general comment on a whim, no personal interest in the video.Feel like yall didn’t watch the video.
Pls talking about are very valid, this has nothing to do with 13-0.
Also Crimson misquoted me like a mofo lol
I asked to watch the video for a reason.I certainly didn't. I made a general comment on a whim, no personal interest in the video.
I never said it did.Your comment has nothing to do with the video.
Sup Carl99% of PLs haters/trolls haven’t done fuck all.
I don't think the NRS scene has devolved. If anything I think that's part of the problem with Carl, the scene has evolved but he hasn't.@Felipe_Gewehr I can see where you're coming from...but Carl kinda has a right to be pissed at what he's seeing, when you were there in the beginning and you've had to watch what it's all devolved into now.
That's fine and all but I'm really not seeing what is the point he is trying to make here? The video starts with him cussing NRS players telling them they are dumb - which, ok, there's plenty of dummies sure - then proceeds to list strawman arguments that are easily debunked in a second. Next, he is raging at Sonic for some reason, saying "yall mofos call him the goat when he just got beat by a 16 year old" as if SonicFox himself wasnt beating huge names when HE was 16 years old back then (???). Like, dude, what is this one hour long video about? Is he trying to tell us Sonic actually isn't a good player cus he finally didn't make a top 12? Considering this tournament was full of superb new players - something that, you know, will inevitably happen over time as generations get older and new faces arrive - this argument is kinda weird? What he said at 7:40 about top players only being top players because no one's traveling like they used to punched me in the face because I wonder on a constant basis how many of the new people would be able to hang offline.
This man has not cooked like this since MLG and I am here for the comeback tour.
@Felipe_Gewehr I can see where you're coming from...but Carl kinda has a right to be pissed at what he's seeing, when you were there in the beginning and you've had to watch what it's all devolved into now. Sonic, great person and incredible player or not, just happens to be the perfect example.
You should consider that it's not just about Sonic, the past, the 13-0, or the stupidity of certain arguments when it comes to characters: this is the sound of a guy who, opinions about him or how long he's been away aside, traveled the world winning championships in games more complex than NRS has ever made, before most of the best players we have now were even born. He doesn't care because he doesn't need to, because he's already made and nothing can unmake him. I was at Summer Jam for that match, and I saw him outside a room wearing a Raiden hat looking like he didn't have a care in the world, because he didn't. He loves what he does no matter what happens, and what he does has been rendered incredibly stupid by a playerbase made of mostly toxic casuals who are painfully uneducated in what a fighting game is actually supposed to do.
I'd be pissed off, too.
He has 5 freakin evo wins in NRS games. 5. He’s 2nd all time in total evo titles. As far as NRS goes he IS the goat and there’s absolutely 0 credible contenders for that title. 0.That's fine and all but I'm really not seeing what is the point he is trying to make here? The video starts with him cussing NRS players telling them they are dumb - which, ok, there's plenty of dummies sure - then proceeds to list strawman arguments that are easily debunked in a second. Next, he is raging at Sonic for some reason, saying "yall mofos call him the goat when he just got beat by a 16 year old" as if SonicFox himself wasnt beating huge names when HE was 16 years old back then (???). I'm confused.
In all honesty, shouldn't he be happy the fighting game scene grew and prizes are much higher? I mean, since it is harder to compete now, as everyone is constantly upping their game, every win is even more glorious. Dunno, sounds like there are plenty of positive ways to approach this, but he instead is salty even though his past record has 2 evo wins and lots of top 8s. And Sonic is somehow the escapegoat of this frustration.Carl mostly comes across as bitter. Which I kind of understand, he was a World Champion at MK when being a World Champion at MK was a much smaller deal, and when there was a fraction of the amount of money in the scene, and before streaming really blew up. I imagine a lot of older FGC players might feel this way.
That is 100% true. He old.I don't think the NRS scene has devolved. If anything I think that's part of the problem with Carl, the scene has evolved but he hasn't.
Because he's right. Why do we give this dude attention? He’s a 3X Evo champ and he’s still crying about the guy who beat him a decade ago. Imagine having the equivalent of 3 world titles and you’re still ranting about Sonic.
Why does it matter if Sonic isn’t amazing at other games??! Neither is PL FFS lmao. Is Wayne Gretzky diminished because he has 0 Super Bowl rings? That is 100% true. He old.
I am typing up a lot, but this feels like a case of "both things can be true."
@12:20
Kinda the sticking point of the whole thing for me, when I could never take Fox seriously the same way again after that became a thing.
But I've said on more than one occasion that feels like less of a coincidence when you consider the history of the people in charge.
This is a trip down memory lane I was not expecting and I am so here for it. I miss listening to PL and Brady and REO talking shit all the time.
Because he's right.
It's always been the knock against Sonic, and it's still true now.
There is a tremendous difference between a pro wrestler, and a world-class fighter, and Fox is quite literally CM Punk: the Best In The World...at what THEY do, which has been dominate the NRS scene entirely since 2014, on top of being world-renowned in DBFZ, Skullgirls, and who knows how many other games.
The 500-pound elephant problem in the room is that of the games taken most seriously around the world - SF, Marvel, Tekken, Soul Calibur, DOA, even Smash - Sonic has never so much as put a drop in the bucket on a big stage, and I feel like none of those communities have taken MK or NRS seriously for a very long time.
And part of that is because our games have been made to favor the Sonicfox guessing game setplay fightstyle.
Justin Wong and Chris G are world-class athletes. Players like that who look to constantly evolve and expand, instead of just finding newest way to do the same thing in the place that is more or less already catering to their strengths.
In a world where NinjaKilla and Rewind go out of their way to win with the hard stuff, and where we are seeing the youth change the game from the inside out...how do you call someone the GOAT who's never, EVER been able to win outside of their comfort zone?
In our realm? Sure, Sonic is the GOAT.
In the grand scheme of things, across the whole FGC, competing in a world that's almost entirely online? Sonic is CM Punk.
Nah you’re good. 5mins in he makes all points clear lol.I’m 22 minutes in and will probably watch the rest later - so if this comment lacks important context I apologize.
PL does himself no favors with his delivery and talking about how he’s won more world championships than LeBron is insane.
But I partially agree with him. Sonic is undoubtedly the NRS GOAT but anyone can lose to any other high level player to a point. The people in his stream making excuses for why a grown man lost in a video game is pathetic, and obviously nobody could explain why Sonic would lose to a Baraka player without simply being outplayed. But being outplayed doesn’t mean he isn’t the GOAT.
I know it’s galactic levels of cringe to compare fighting games to a real combat sport so sorry, but just a couple years ago in the UFC, Sean Strickland beat the shit out of Israel Adesanya for 5 rounds, then loses his first title defense. He beat him at his own game, convincingly, but has never and will never accomplish as much as Izzy did in the UFC.
@Trickywizard is the rest of the video worth watching beyond 22 min or did I get the gist?
More than any you have ever done I imagine? The real question is what has PL done lately?
