im really emo when it comes to the MU right now lol

I think a Sonya who turtles would give Kit problems rather than a Sonya who is pure rush.

The flow of the MU definitely favors Kitana tho. The zoning and the assing is could a problem for Sonya.

The match is heavily life lead based. Once Kitana gets the lead, she can hold on to it, but not as easy as Sonya can once she gets the lead. Sonya with a life lead is scary because she can just turtle, but no Sonya's are doing that atm. Think about it, if Kitana has the lead, she can zone and ass and blah, but Sonya has answers for it. The ex cartwheel can stop the zoning and then Sonya is in, hit or blocked. If Kitana chooses to ass out, it can be punished, but again, that's something most Sonya's aren't doing. Sonya with a life lead is a bitch, if she is playing the MU correctly. Once she gets the lead, all she has to do it turtle, and she can do that much better than Kitana can. She can zone her and Kit has to come to her, which is bad because Sonya definitely beats her upclose. Once Kitana approaches her, she has to worry about the ex cartwheel, d4 or any of the AAs if she tries to jump. It's all about the life lead and both characters can keep the life lead very well, but Sonya just does it better.

This may sound weird, but i think it's 5-5 against a rushing Sonya, or against a Sonya who doesn't know the MU. If Sonya has the life lead, she can just sit on it, but most Sonya's just want to rush the whole time, and even tho she is super safe when it comes to rushing, she can make a mistake, like a dive kick, or Kitana can poke and then start her footsies, all in which could end up with Sonya eating big damage. I have to agree with CURBOLICOUS and say that Sonya isn't just this pure rushdown machine that everyone thinks she is. She has the tools so get the life lead and sit on it well. I play a turtle Sonya, so does Death and so did Curbo back in his day, and it works well for us. In no way, shape or form am I putting the Sonya players on blast, so please do not take it that way.

Again, I'm emo with the match atm so I really don't know, nor do I care what the MU number is. Just thought I should get this post off my chest.

and? . .. that i am getting to the conclution that this community is full of shit when it comes to talk about sonya why? because if the words coming out of the mouth of sonya players is not '' the all powerful sonya who beats every body in the cast but kenshi kabal and freddy '' people do not want to hear it and they do not even have an open mind about it

people do not want to accept the fact that she goes even with a few characters is the cast as well because she is sonya and she most have the advantage because she has a long d4 and armor ''you know''

LBSH Sonya is the least known mu for most people. People still think dk is 4 frame combo starter, they know none of her string holes and still claim she has a small hitbox when the only character that she has a match defining small hitbox vs is jax.

I know.

And when we try to explain our experiences with our character, they think we're "downplaying." No doubt they come under this BS themselves. That's as hypocritical as you can get.

The term "downplay" has caused people to not take us seriously as players. When you try to explain what areas your character best specializes in while also highlighting those they fail at, they brush us off and choose to complain. That's part of why the Sonya match-up still isn't completely broken down, as is also the case with some other characters.

Times like this, you wonder if guides are even worth making anymore.

Top-tier or high-tier does NOT equal unbeatable.

its one of the most interesting MUs to discuss

kinda like cage/sonya, Sonya/Lao, Kit/Cage

Im extremely inferior though to be sprouting off sonya numbers so i have to respect my Sonya gods and elders on this topic

If it weren't for Smoke and Cyrax having those resets that they've got, Sonya would no doubt replace Smoke in the Top 5. At least against Sonya, you can make some mistakes and recover your footing. Against the other two characters, one mistake equals a lost round.

rev0lver, I hope you realize I did not start this thread up to agitate any bullshit, and nor should anyone else. It's just that I honestly felt the discussion needed to happen. Otherwise, we can't expect to fully understand the conflicting viewpoints people bring to this match-up. It's not the first one to come under the spotlight like this, nor will it be the last.

rev0lver, I hope you realize I did not start this thread up to agitate any bullshit, and nor should anyone else. It's just that I honestly felt the discussion needed to happen. Otherwise, we can't expect to fully understand the conflicting viewpoints people bring to this match-up. It's not the first one to come under the spotlight like this, nor will it be the last.

We're talking about Sonya downplaying not the fact kenshi smoke is 4-6

That makes no sense in context - one MU doesn't define a tier placing

So the fact that one mistake against a specific character can put you on the edge of losing a round doesn't affect their placement on the tier lists?

I already told you, if it weren't for those resets, Sonya would indeed be Top 5. Highest I can see her at is #6. We already know my other three in my personal Top 5 would be Kabal, Kenshi, and Freddy for obvious reasons. If I were truly downplaying, I'd have Sonya vs. Kitana at 6-4 Kitana instead of 5-5 like how I do, because I know the advantages that both these characters have against one another.

No I'm not. Majority of Sonya's still think she goes even with noob, sindel, cage, sub, smoke, sektor, Shang but I admit she beats them
