Of course we ask for more content in our video games, the companies that made the games have the ressources to create larger games each time, while the ressources of the average player to buy them remains the same. That's the way it should be. They create larger, better games and they try to sell more than the previous one. Don't say that companies suffers because of these prices because it's just not the case. GTA V developement costed $265 millions yet they managed to get the money back only with the pre orders (at $60/copy) and now it's one of the most profitable game in history.
Would you complain if a theater would charge you $25 to watch the next Avengers ? Of course you would complain ! But you know, the last Avengers costed around $321 millions, and Disney is probably in bankruptcy by the time we are talking, right ? So they need to raise the price. Oh they still managed to make 2 billions out of this movie, nevermind.
Yet, I don't really know what's the average cost of a movie theater ticket in the US (I'd say $12 ? $13 ?) but in France it's €15-€16 (around $17-$18), it's already expensive for a movie theater ticket, but I'd never buy a movie ticket that is more expensive that it is already is. And that's the same thing for video games, $60 is the standard price for a new video game, if the game is good and has more content than the other one, it will sell more, and it will stay for longer at a higher price, and that's where the companies will make profits. At least it's the way it should be. The companies managed to set the standard starting price for a video game at $60 (even if it's more expensive in Europe, in France a game is €70 at release, around $80) and yet they seems to make LARGE profit from their games.
For the last years, companies tried so hard to offer less content while charging more. And they are successful, because now people are still buying games at full price that offers less content than before. Bethesda tried this summer to sell more while giving less content with Fallout 76 and look what happened. The game is now worth $10 at some game shops, and nobody wants to buy it anyways. It shows that people still have standards (despite being very low), but when you take a succesful series like Call of Duty, look at what they managed to do with Black Ops 4. It is the top selling video game in the US (like the last 10 years) yet the game is emptier and uninspired than all the previous ones. They managed to lower the standards so bad, that in a few years companies could just take a dump into the game box and people would be happy with it.
It's honestly the first time I see someone saying "you should be happy that the game only cost $60", I expected to see it but not before a year or two from now. This is ridiculous.
