yeah but I'm sure they (netherrealm) will never do that because the game was not accepted by most like the original trilogy...instead they will do a MK Eleven with Pikachu DLC for the new gens and etc xDD
most probably, because they dont have zeus/zeus 2 architecture anymore... we will have to wait for aaron from mame team to emu it somehow.
Not sure if they don't have it anymore, but the reason why is because the zues hardware was just so different & weird. Someday maybe.

Yep, MKG is exclusive for DC. I meant to skip the PC port of MK4, since it is the worst. You can check those combo vids:

and few short clips of mine:

this was for n64 mk4, but still worth a shot:

Cool, hey correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the N64 MK 4 the closest and best home version next to the actual Arcade port? The PC version had issues from what I remember, and the PS version I hated the game would freeze during fatalities and mid gameplay(at least when I rented it) it was so annoying lol and good lord the load times at times...lol

yep. however, i would not say it is close to the arcade, although it is the best home port tho.

@ded You showed combo videos from MKG and MK4 (N64), you can do the same combos on MKG than MK4 and vice versa?

everything from mk gold should work in mk4 arcade. there are few damage differences (for example reiko: hp,hp,hk,hk, flip kick, jump hk, teleport SUJK, RH is 50% in mkg and i believe home ports, while it is 48% or something on arcade).

the arcade version of mk4 is also smoother, therefore i believe reiko's teleport hp in corner is a real inf while in mkg, it would be more like a 100%+ combo. the sujk juggles are also easier, which will allow more advanced sub-zero combos (they would be still possible in home ports and mkg tho, but much more difficult)

i believe kai's weapon lp also is faster in home ports and mk gold, which will cause unblockable punishers for blocked lk/hk for example, while on arcade it is blockable.

there are few small differences here and there. @MKK hanzo can also put some inputs.

as for mk4 extreme, i used the pause trick for some of the combos, which is n64 exlusive. the rest of the combos should work in both arcade and mk gold.

Ah MK4 I remember playing that in the Arcade as a kid. Player scorpion and Tanya in both versions. Games were pretty broken though lol

MK4 for Arcade is way better than MK Gold. From graphics (imagine ZEUS with HLSL in 1997) to gameplay, there is no need to compare them. However, as MK4 Arcade is not yet emulated, I would advise to play the Europe version of MKGold (2.0 with the fixed stuff), as it runs smoother and is slower.

I've read some stuff about NullDC online, but have not tested that unfortunately:
http://www.suitgames.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2654

*PS - The newer versions of NullDC have weird crackle when you perform some of the fatalities and/or special moves where there is a lot of blood, however, I remember NullDC gets frozen after 1-2 hours of playing if there is PAD attached in the old versions where the sound was ok. Not sure if they fixed that in the newer releases.
I guess the graphics should have better but I would like to know why the gameplay its better , besides the brokeness of the new chars, I read that you talk good stuff about mk gold but it was in an old interview/page. Btw the article of wikipedia said that

Despite having the graphics that were the most faithful to the arcade version of all the home versions of Mortal Kombat 4, Game Revolution rated it a D and commented that "the graphics are inexcusably horrible" and "it's quite a depressing let-down on Sega's128-bit masterpiece, especially when compared to Soulcalibur." The weapons that characters can use during the game were called "dull and uninteresting", often having little relation to the characters, and being "either a sword, axe, or club".[13] IGN was less negative toward the game, awarding it a 6.3 out of 10, but was particularly critical regarding the weapon system: "Readying your weapon is a slow process in which one can be hit any number of times during the attempt". Although IGN commented on the improvements from previous Mortal Kombat games, the lack of depth was considered inexcusable.[14] Jeff Gerstmann of GameSpot, who gave the game a score of 5.0/10, wrote that "sitting down and playing MK Gold almost feels like a retrogaming experience - you really feel as though you've pulled out some old game that you haven't played in years - and it hasn't aged gracefully.

PS: I tested the game in a new version and checked that annoying audio glitch... I hope you can get an arcade of mk4 in a future to do some caps but it should be on a stick I guess hehe.

i would never trust to wikipedia or gaming website when it comes to deep review of an mk game. as for examples, i already mentioned reiko and sub, which are two of the top characters. on of the most screaming examples - sub-zero: freeze SUJK, otg SUJK, 4 Hit launcher -> try that on mk4 arcade (although it is not fully emulated) and any home port of mk4 or mkgold ;)

The MAME team already has already emulated MK4 years ago (starting 2007).
Right now MK4 emulation in MAME though has some glitches and requires quite some CPU resources.

btw I really had fun times with MK4 in the arcades back in the time!

yeah, it runs the game, but unfortunately none of the zeus features are emulated (it is just null emulation).

the effects, shadowing, filtering, etc.. what mame does at the moment is just rough emulation. you played the arcade version right? it does not look as how the game runs in mame atm... i can even post screenshots for comparison if you cannot notice it

The initial emulation in 2007 indeed lacked shadows and particle effects.
In 2011 was the last ZEUS emulation improvement as shadows has been added.
But it certainly has room for some more improvements and isn't glitch-free yet.

Thats an arcade capture, sadly its on 30fps 480p and lack some brightness and colors , but it looks different to the mame mk4 video posted above.

maybe this could help:

just two quotes from the mame link you provided:

FIFO Command $23/$2E: It is unknown what the purpose of this vector is, though it is possible that it is a point light source.
FIFO Command $13: Render a model which has been previously configured by the internal data pointers. Invasion uses this; MK4 does not appear to do it this way. It is unknown if anything other than 0 is valid in the low 24 bits of the command word.

I actually didnt hate mk4//gold as that was the last game that had the buttons the same from the original trilogy tbh i would love to see this made on psn, xbox live arcade and pc again. i actually want to play it again i liked it more then the 3d ones and yeah i know many wont agree but thats just my opinion!!!!

Yeah, and to be honest I'm not sure it is only lights, shadows and etc... there might be whole layers missing:

Notice Kai's victory pose - you cannot even see his fingers for example. The sky at The Tomb is completely missing, etc:

Maybe if somebody can gather information from Mark Loffredo (designer of the ZEUS architecture), we will see progress of the emulation: http://www.righthandtech.com/markloffredo.php

to be honest, MK4 arcade is my second favorite MK game (right after UMK3), but I have already tried to reach Aaron and motivate MAME developers via MKSecrets, but without success. I do believe it is either too difficult to emulate that properly, or they simply do not want to waste much time on it :/

There are other Mame devs now besides Aaron.
These type of screenshots on the forum will definately make them (and other users) interested.

We also have a more solid community then before. If only we can use that community power to reach them (maybe a mass twitter message or a mame forum thread with 100 positive replies?)
