So what if he defeats Goro? Other characters have beat Goro, too. Other characters have beaten Shao Kahn too. Kung Lao beat Kintaro who is a better Goro, Cyber Sub-Zero defeated BOTH Goro and Kintaro. Kotal Khan defeated Shao Kahn in MK11. This isn't Dragon Ball Z. There are no strict rules in MK like 'If Liu Kang beats Goro, that means he's better than anyone that Goro defeated." You're letting your fanboyism declare what's permittable and what's not and completely refuse to believe anything different.

I've seen this before where (some) people are ok with Johnny Cage beating up Shinnok, yet they aren't when Cassie is doing it.
(Some) people are ok with Kotal beating up Shao Kahn, yet they aren't when Kitana is doing it.
It's sexist and they need to look into it.

I still do not understand why a lot of characters from X haven't at least appeared in the story.

Further more Smoke and Sindel should be in.

Especially Smoke and his Enenra stuff should be explained before erasing the timeline

My idea for MK12 would be to have some character find the amulet and inadvertently use it to bring Shinnok back.

Shao Kahn is overrated, he's not remotely the more powerful characters in MKU. In OW maybe but that's not saying much given everyone else's power in OW is vastly below his.

Say what now? Shao Kahn is definitely up there as one of the more powerful characters the lore has given us. Except in MK11, you'd be right as they made him a fucking chump lol.

Shao Kahn is probably the second strongest non-god being in existence, right after Onaga. Even then, he is more powerful than Raiden. It took all elder gods to stop him. He is by no means weak.

Maybe MK 3 Kahn was a lot more powerful in terms of his soul stealing abilities but he's been beaten before by Liu Kang, Raiden, EG's etc. Not saying he's weak, I just don't believe he's nearly the most powerful villain in MK. I think in terms of personality, he's arguably the best villain but most powerful, he's not. He's below Shinnok and Raiden in terms of power overall, when they're not jobbing. LK is a better fighter than Kahn as we've seen in multiple timelines he always beats him.

He's not more powerful than Raiden, Raiden jobs and already killed him. Raiden also has better feats than Shao Kahn. He's helped the Elder Gods, protected Earthrealm from the beginning, beat Shinnok a few times. MK 11 confirmed this with Raiden getting Kronika's attention(for God knows how many times now), Raiden in MK 9 was not even fighting but when Kahn was beating him up, he only gave up to save Earthrealm's lives...the EG intervened, healed Raiden and Raiden beat him and the Elder Gods destroyed him. LK has also beaten Shao Kahn in every timeline, he's not a God(at the time he wasn't) but a metahuman, Shao Kahn loses to other realms champions, Gods etc. OW though he's a powerhouse but he's been beaten. Raiden at his best and/or without morals would murderstomp Shao Kahn. If he was more powerful than Raiden he wouldn't want Kronika to wipe him from history, he would have beaten Raiden centuries ago which cleary isn't the case. Not counting the MK tournament as that has rules, I'm talking one on one Kahn vs Raiden.

I don't disagree with any of that, but saying he's below elder gods isn't exactly a knock against his power in the overall MKU lol. He's also manhandled Raiden on a number of occasions, too. He won Armageddon. Liu Kang being a better fighter than him isn't saying much either, the guy's the chosen one of the series. He's easily the best martial artist in the universe. So I mean...you've listed 3 people who're better, one of which is an elder god, another of which I don't exactly agree with, and the 3rd being the chosen one. I'd say that still makes him one of the most powerful characters in the series, probably top 5.

Til MK 11, everyone was below EG level but now we have "Titans" lol who are apparently higher than EG but not developed. I just see them as higher Gods and currently the top of the food chain. But yeah just saying, MKA he was amplified he had Blaze's power against Raiden, Raiden has also manhandled Kahn during MK 9, then the EG finished him lol. Raiden holds back too much, but we've seen him beat Shinnok several times(who's way more powerful than Shao Kahn let's be real here) Raiden at his best no morals and with the Amulet he'd demolish Shao Kahn, Light Raiden would give him trouble and has proven to best him. Dark Raiden would destroy him lol. Especially if he has the amulet. You saw what he did in MK 11 right? lol Between Shinnok, and taking out armies of the undead WHILE weaker mind you. Plus, as everyone else confirmed once Shinnok was defeated and his head taken off, Raiden literally went to other realms he deemed threats and killed God knows how many other Gods, Emperors, Kings etc who would threaten Earthrealm on his own. Shao Kahn needs armies, Raiden did that shit on his own lol. Remember what Kotal Kahn said in story? He confirmed this as well. Now I know the Shinnok think people like to use the "well cassie cage beat him" but that was only due to her power being able to beat Gods specifically but to me I don't see that as any worse than LK beating Shao Kahn in H2H.

I can list a few more higher than Shao Kahn but my point is, some people put him on this pedestal of highest most powerful villain in MKU, he's not lol. That's all I'm saying. He's one of, sure but not THE most powerful. The way he beat onaga wasn't in Kombat or outpowering him, he poisoned him....lol. If you wanted me to list more who I'm SURE can beat Shao Kahn, Fire God LK, Cetrion, Kronika, Kouran(the guy is an immortal so he can't die), Geras(same reason always comes back he's pretty much the Doomsday of MK, even Raiden after a while can't beat him so he BFRed him lol) don't get me wrong though, Kahn is a badass he's just not unbeatable.


But it's fine man, we can agree to disagree on the Raiden/Shao Kahn bit, I'm just explaining the power levels of both, feats, what both have and can do. A lot of times, NRS tends to jobber them among others.

Nah I agree here, haha. Your original comment just made it seem like you thought he was always an overrated jobber XD You know I love you man, we love to debate story. Besides, he'll always go down as one of the scariest motherfuckers in video game history in my opinion for how ridiculous he was to fight against in the early games.

Oh yeah not at all, in the older games both Shao Kahn and Raiden seemed more OP. Then buffed Shao kahn at the end of MK9 a bit The reboot MK 9, they seemed toned down a bit in general but I've noticed as time goes on Raiden has more and more powers lol like seeing the future to a point, seeing alternate lives of himself, apparently able to make others Gods etc, then they buffed Raiden again and nerfed Shao Kahn again in MK 11 seemingly. I'l admit they should have had Shao Kahn and Kitana using their powers more in that fight.

Shao Kahn stopped being THE powerhouse after MK9 … and I actually prefer it that way. I don't like OP characters - I prefer it if anyone can have a shot at them - gameplay wise as well as story wise.

Okay, I just beat the story and saw both endings (all three if you consider the one of Liu dying an "ending"), here are my thoughts:
  • The rules that apply to young and old versions of characters make no sense. Young Kano gets kick in the gut and Old Kano feels it, yet Old Scorpion beats the absolute shit out of Young Scorpion and he feels nothing?
  • Kotal Kahn can defeat Goro which was undefeated for like thousands of years, yet in both MKX and now MK11's story mode, he gets defeated by pretty much everyone and now he's a cripple. He even almost got killed by D'Vorah. It's disappointing to see NRS hype him up to be awesome only for him to be so... underwhelming?
  • Some characters kinda just disappear in the story. Where is Old Johnny? Where is Young Sonya and Johnny?
  • Cetrion and Geras are underwhelming new characters. Geras should seem unstoppable, yet he is stopped every time he shows up. He should have been this game's Sindel, so powerful he maybe even kills off a couple characters or something. Cetrion on the other hand did absolutely nothing other than "B-b-but my mom said to do this!", like Jesus. Nothing happened with these characters.
  • No mention of the whereabouts of Takeda and Kung Jin is weird. Takeda and Jacqui should still be a couple, so she doesn't mention to Cassie that she's worried about him during all of this? Kung Jin is never mentioned to Kung Lao?
  • Overall power levels make no sense. I think it makes sense for Kitana to be Kahn, but Shao is suppose to be nearly unstoppable. Yet it seems that Kitana can slice him in the face on time and he's dead for good?
  • Both the endings felt pretty much the same. One has Liu having to craft a new timeline, the other is Liu having to craft a new timeline with Kitana. Not much of a difference because either way we are getting a new timeline, lol.
  • The ending in general is too open ended. We don't actually have any idea what direction NRS is going to take. At the end of MK9, we knew revenants were going to be a thing. At the end of MKX, we knew that Dark Raiden, Emperor Liu Kang, and Empress Kitana were going to be a thing. At the end of MK11 we know nothing other than we are going to see a new timeline. I guess the only big takeaway is that Raiden will be sitting out a game MAYBE, now that he is powerless and Fire God Liu Kang is a thing.
  • I do like how they gave Tarkata more personality other than being "that evil tribe of monsters"
  • Seeing timelines we've never seen before with cameos of Dead Pool and Pyramid of Argus was cool.
Overall, I have mixed feelings. Some scenes were cool to see happening, but when you really think about it, like 90% of the story makes no sense at all.

EDIT: I also don't like how in MK9 we got a timeline reset and now only two games later we are getting ANOTHER timeline reset. I'm really starting to get the feeling that NRS doesn't know how to continue a story without bringing in time or dimension factors.
