I for one think Jax has a lot of potential. I dont know if you tested it out yet or not DrDogg, but he can pretty much cancel his ground pound as soon as he starts it. The only problem is is if he dash cancels it, theres a couple of frames where he cant actually block, but he can do a normal/special immediately. With that in mind, i feel like Jax's game consists of forcing or opponent to make a mistake, so youre always on the look out for what your opponent is going to do next. Obviously the same can be said with any character, but Jax more so. I also think what makes him so "bad" is that he's not a simple character to just pick up like the rest of the cast..or i should say like most of the cast. I honestly think the only thing they should change for him is the speed of his ground pound. Not to the point where its broken, but just to where he can mix up better when people think its coming.

Jax needs a buff again. Hes still to weak!

the only thing jax needs tweaking is his fireball needs to come out faster. I been using him this week and that's his main weakness now.

Its funny, cuz I've been looking thru the Jax fourm trying to learn him, cuz he seems pretty fun to me, and in my opinion is overlooked. I've seen a lot of your comments tho and I'm sorry if i sound like an ass but it seems like all you do is complain about how much he needs a buff, and that he's too weak. There are people on this fourm trying to explain to you his strengths and even go into detail about it and all you have to say is "JAX NEED BUFF!" Dont take this the wrong way or anything, but if you dont like the character or you think he sucks that bad, why not pick another character? And if you already have done that, then leave the threads for the people that have real questions or strategies for him.

My main complaint with the current state of Jax is the speed of his ground pound. A lot of characters have an invincible wake up attack, so canceling into a special isn't nearly as useful as dash canceling. However, the delay on the dash cancel, combined with the slow start-up of the ground pound make it far less of a guessing game for the opponent.

Stryker and maybe pre-hotfix Quan Chi.

The ground pound works where needed. I was using Jax a bit Saturday, was my first time playing 1.02 Jax...it does open up a lot if you have setups. Just experiment with it...if you don't experiment, you never really know.

Yeah, it's slow to cancel, but it's not remotely useless.

Pre-hotfix doesn't count sir! :)

I don't know about Stryker. He has some decent options. I'd say he's about equal with Jax. How do you feel Jax is superior to Stryker?

That said... that fact that you can only name one character out of a roster of ~30 pretty much backs up my statement that Jax is not good.

I agree with this. I would like to see his ground pound slightly faster to open him up more. At least you have a reason and can explain that reason as to why you think he's not a good character, which i'll respect. I'm having fun with him and i'm going to play him every now and again see if i can learn anything new. THTB is right tho, if you dont experiment, you'll never really know.

do you guys think it would be broken if his gotcha grab left the opponents in a stagger state so that he could set up ground pound traps? maybe even combo into it? i wish he could launch opponents more easily

FIGHTAN GAHMS!!!
what i would also like in combination with a faster pound, slightly faster normals, is less push distance from a successful dash punch. to me, the whole point of the move is the same as sonyas arc kick. at a basic level its a way for Jax to approach the opponent. but since it pushes them at least nearly 2 dash distances away from him on a success, its almost better to do it again than to dash forward. i would like the distance brought down slightly, maybe one dash distance away so i still can decide whether i want to engage on their wakeup or not. itd definitely make the move better for him imo.

I named 2 damnit lol! But I never said he wasn't among the bottom of the barrel...bottom 5 for sure, but he's still usable.

But yeah, Stryker sucks at punishment. His fastest non-generic low move is 4...which leads to nothing. His zoning is really meh, and his offense sucks really bad. Plus the armor on his EX baton toss runs out right before its attacking frames become active, so in a lot of cases, he just gets smacked out of this move...it's literally his best wakeup option. He just doesn't really have anything lol. Jax at least has stuff that works.

Stryker sucks hard...even worse than Jax, Baraka, or Quan Chi.

@Chris...Idk...I think Jax just needs to be able to at least get dash punch after f413 and he'll be set. Jax is definitely low tier, but he is good, still. In this game, everyone but Stryker is good. It's moreso just some characters are better, but just about every character has something.

Jax is fun as hell! He just sucks, so its so dumb. You can't even main jax if you wanted to. It's bs that they dont give jax a low! Thats all he needs to be great! I dont care what people say on here, they dont main jax like i do. They just play cheap to get wins

Dude you know nothing about jax, stop telling us that jax is good. Jax is shit, i have been playing jax all this time. you played him one time, get off jax case.

Dude, I play him all the time...that was the first time using 1.02 Jax, not Jax in general. I've used Jax for a while dude lol. I'm well aware of where he shines and where he doesn't.

I didn't say he was top tier...I said he was good, which pretty much every character is aside from Stryker, I feel. He has stuff that lets him be competitive, though it's still hard and in a lot of cases not in his favor. He just needs a few things and he'd be perfect. If f413 led to at least a dash punch, he'd be set.

Lol what? They play him to get cheap wins? But didnt you....arent you saying that he sucks and no one can main him like you do? Isnt f4, 1 a low hitting starter? I just dont ge...........Ohhh, wait. Iiii see whats going on here. Why didnt anyone tell me haha? I get it now: Dont feed the troll. It all makes sense now.

ANYWAY. Chrisofrays you asked earlier if it would be broken if the gotcha grab left an opponent in a stagger stat..did you mean as opposed to knocking someone down? Cuz i think it would be a good idea as it would limit the opponents options since wake up moves wouldnt be the problem (correct me if i'm wrong) and the only thing they could really do is jump..but I can see how that could turn into a cyrax bomb trap to be honest. Cuz thats free damage you know? I honestly think his ground pounds should be a bit faster and i would be straight with him. THTB made a good point about the dash punch too

jax vs sonya 6/4
jax vs raiden 5/5
Please explain these two. Sonya I'm just curious to hear what you have to say, but almost any character having a 5/5 Raiden is a stretch. Jax being 5/5 with Raiden just seems ridiculous to me.

If f413 led to at least a dash punch, he'd be set.
But then you run into the Liu Kang issue. There's really no reason to stand block. Jax's only overheads can be fuzzy guarded with ease, so even if his f+4 strings lead to follow-ups, you have to work pretty hard to get them to land in non-punishment situations.

IMO, just make ground pound faster, and give him a string that leads into a canned overhead that starts with a special-mid. With these two changes, he'd be a solid mid-tier and I'd use him in tournaments.

Couldn't find a good place to say this, and this thread seems to have turned into Jax General, so I guess I'll post it here: I think that patch either lowered the damge or increased the proration on Jax's Far Ground Pound... Far Ground Pound > Dash Punch is only dealing 21% now, compared to the previous 22%; Far Ground Pound > 2,f+2,b+1 xx Air Throw is dealing 33% compared to 34%; etc. Probably only a miniscule difference, though.

I only use Reptile when it comes to tournaments. Doesn't mean I can't learn other characters just to have a little fun.

Dogg, f413 into dash punch would help so much, not because of a high/low mixup, but because of his throws. Like I said, Jax is the only character who can throw in either direction and still get you to the corner because of how multislam works. f413 is to get your opponent off of neutral crouch in attempts to avoid throws. Air throw grabs jumps. Pretty much it's like his moveset is designed around landing multislam. Idk, that's what's been working for me. Idk about you.
