Let's talk: MKX on PC

@evolution83 I think I see where you're coming from on the control issue. I had problems for a while as well. I had never played a dial-a-combo system before MKX, so I basically thought if you just dial everything in at first, then the game should do what you told it, right?

Wrong. The game doesn't work this way (though I sometimes wish it did.) Example Liu Kang F213, BF1 -This should do the F213 string, and then end in a standing fireball. But if you put it in too fast, it doesn't. It'll sometimes throw a low fireball because low fireball uses 3. Even if you put the inputs in correctly, if you do it too fast you'll always get a low fireball.

That's because this game doesn't work in terms of absolute dial-ins. It works in terms of timing windows. That's why when you slow down your inputs, you will almost always have better success- you'll hit the right windows for inputs. You weren't very specific, so I can only give you general advice on this. Practice what you're trying to do as slow as possible for it to still work, and then as fast as possible. Find out where the timing windows are, and use character animations to associate with those windows.

If you have any questions, just hit me up and I'll try to help. I also always pimp out this guide to everyone. It's where I started to really learn how the game works- http://testyourmight.com/threads/the-absolute-beginners-guide-to-commando-kano.55270/

It's too soon to get cocky.
I use a Hori Xbox 360 Gem Pad EX, and it's quite good. I notice this game reads inputs differently than the last, and in mid-string, sometimes something doesn't register if you're going too fast.

Have you tried adjusting your timing? I needed to slow things down.
yeah, i've started to time things and it does make a difference. i don't have a problem with most kombos, just ones that involve super strict timing. i've been practicing this one ermac kombo which uses one bar of meter and comes out to 47% damage. it involves using his overhead kick 3 times after a low poke and can be super hard to pull off if your timing isn't right.

i tried using a hitbox for about 15 seconds and gave up lol. it was after i had used a controller for a few minutes, and the transition just threw me off since i haven't been accustomed to either of them.

nice guide you posted. i'll be reading over it.

as far as a controller goes, i was using a PS4 last night, and while not incredibly bad, the directional pad just felt stiff for me and was making me struggle. i felt like a n00b trying to pull off even some of the most basic stuff. that's where the XBox controller had me thinking if the directional pad might be easier and not as stiff for movements. i'll have to go to one of the local best buys and get a feel for it. if it's better i'll have to buy one so i can compete locally better.

I'm playing on PC and it seems the playerbase is quite small. This is annoying in its own because it makes finding a match difficult. However, there are people who sit in the search queue and go AFK making it impossible to find a person to play against because these douches always come up. I once ran into the same guy for 2 days straight.

Put a damn timeout in the search. Set it at 30 minutes or something but there needs to be a timeout.

not right now, he said hes gonna update it once they stop patching every week cause it takes time for him to do it, and doing it every week, its easy to understand how that could be time consuming.

I bought MKX for Xbone and am considering getting it for PC as well, but I have heard that on launch the port was very bad. The reviews on steam reflect this, but they are old dating all the way back to June. So as of this post, how is the PC port and is it worth buying to practice for local tourneys?

right now, the game is fixed for the most part. i have a pretty modest rig. i3-3220 with a 750 ti and i'm getting smooth 60fps at high settings. if u only want to use it for practicing offline then by all means get it. online is getting pretty dead here on pc.

I still have a few problems with it. I have to keep the shadows on low or else I get weird lag spikes. I guess its dependent on the system, I have two 780's (tried on and off sli, and with just one card) and an i7 3570 but my friend who has a much worse computer gets better performance.

PC port is good right now, no more 50/50s on whether the game crashes or not per match. Everything works as intended so in that way the game is safe to buy.

There are not that many people left however, though I'm not experiencing things as bad as most other PC players. Most of the people that are left are quite good however. If you have a choice between PC and console version, definitely go with the console version. If you just want to play MKX and you don't have a console, PC is now a safe bet.

EX Ovi should launch
The port runs fine, but theres nobody playing it (maybe 30-40 people on room at peak time). The player quality is pretty low as well due to lacking so many players, you want to add up as many legit players on steam as you can then abandon the rooms for good.
