What's new

Let's talk: MKX on PC

no, it was giving me like 38-40 fps which is ridiculous. i was already getting 60 frames on the sky temple map to begin with.
Well, one thing that caught me out when I first downloaded the patch was that my resolution setting changed. It didn't change the ratio, but it changed the refresh to 50. I would check through the settings to make sure something didn't change you weren't aware of.

Also, activate Steam's fps counter and do a few quick matches against the AI on the harsher performing levels and see what you get. The patch definitely changed how the game deals with particle effects, so you may not get the same performance post patch. Play with the settings and see what you can get.

Good luck!

It's not ridiculous, benchmark in MK X tests the worst case scenario. Notice that camera angle is a bit different then in normal fights, also particle density looks higher then what you get in actual fight. It serves it purpose which is - filter people with low spec PC to limit desyncs, stuttering and more.

It's a great addition and should have been in the game from the get go.

Also you can adjust settings and retake the benchmark (it's in option settings) if you need.
sure, in theory you are absolutely correct. but how does that explain me getting a low performance reading when i've always had solid performance throughout the entire game? i just don't see the reason to lower my specs when i'm already running the game the way it was designed to.

does anyone find this new benchmark and fps counter to be inaccurate? i don't have the best hardware, got an i3-3220 @ 3.3GHz and a GTX 750 ti. my machine runs the game like butter. getting 60 frames at 1080p high settings. when the benchmark finished, it gave me a reading of low performance. a few of my steam friends have noted that i have "low performance" but when we're playing it's completely fine. i've rarely had issues online except, a few laggy matches here and there, but all in all my experience has been stellar. never had fps drops of any sort. i don't know what the deal is, but with the limited community on steam i really hope this doesn't keep me from using matchmaking, with the low fps counter letting a potential opponent know that i'm getting "low performance" when in actuality my performance is great.
i can't even get 60fps. i need a better setup lol. i also have a low benchmark but online is always great.

i get a lot more declines lately it seems. before this benchmark a lot would accept 1v1 ranked. now they're a lot more picky.

I was originally getting a medium score by only hitting 53 - 55 FPS on the built in benchmark, but then I went into the Nvidia Control Panel and added the game into the Manage 3D settings. I then modified the settings to Single Display Performance & Prefer Maximum Performance. I am now at 60FPS on the Benchmark with a High score. I guess MKX was throttling back my GPU, and was causing the Framerate to suffer a little. (1080p resolution)

CPU: Core i7 3.6 @ 4.5Ghz

until i upgrade my system i won't be able to play in full 60fps. I have to use frame smoothing.

my specs are:
  • AMD 6-Core FX-6200 3.8GHz Processor
  • 10GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM
  • Eyefinity Radeon HD 7570 graphics
I'd like to build my own system (budget not an issue but want something powerful for a reasonable amount of $$ lol) so if anyone would like to help me in picking the right stuff, hit me up!

Interesting. I personally find it odd that for me, I get 60 FPS solid in-game (according to Steam FPS counter), but the benchmark gave me around 35.

I switched Particles to CPU (was on GPU), and the benchmark now gives me 60, as does the Steam counter.

Not sure why.

What's the major difference between having the CPU handle particles over the GPU? Any visual loss?

Specs are:

- Windows 8.1
- Intel Core i5-4440 3.10 GHz
- 8 GB Ram
- nVidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti with the latest drivers

No visual loss. Particles are usually most resources hungry so depending on you GPU and CPU it's best to set them to whichever is better. In your case where you have mediocre CPU and weak GPU it's better to set it for CPU.

Thanks for the clarification!

setting particles to CPU allows me to fight on the sky temple without having a horrible frame rate finally. I can only get 30fps across the board until i upgrade. hopefully soon :p

who here uses a controller, whether it be ps or xb? i use a keyboard and most are surprised lol. was wondering if a controller would register inputs better on certain combos since a keyboard only recognizes two inputs at a a time

That's not true at all. Maybe keyboards from like 20 years ago but modern keyboards recognize up 1XX inputs at a time. Keyboard is essentially a more complex version of a hitbox or if you prefer hitbox is as super simplified keyboard.

idk what you mean by hitbox, but if i press more than two keys it doesn't recognize the inputs. i've watched my training sessions where i literally press a certain key and it displays onscreen but the game doesnt recognize it so it makes me drop kombos

Dunno what keyboard do you use but i have no problems pressing even 10 inputs at the same time and its registered without any problems. Any decent gaming keyboard can do the same.

Simple test for that: http://www.microsoft.com/appliedsciences/content/projects/KeyboardGhostingDemo.aspx

Also you're making assumption based on MK X which itself is flawed. Some games can accept (recognize) more inputs then others.

Also by hitbox i mean what it means to any FGC player ;)

controls work fine if not better , i guess i know why i always lose poke wars with you on keyboard you can mash that shit
hey! we have some good matches. pretty intense. i always thought i sucked at poke wars lol. someone said i should play footsies more. not used to that i guess. once i get comfortable with something i stick to it. good to see u here.

i had to lookup FGC :p thanks for that link. seems like certain button kombinations aren't recognized. it's weird, but even basic moves i drop. if i do a jump kick and try to do a teleport, the button is pressed to kick but doesn't come out. sucks.

I use a Hori Xbox 360 Gem Pad EX, and it's quite good. I notice this game reads inputs differently than the last, and in mid-string, sometimes something doesn't register if you're going too fast.

Have you tried adjusting your timing? I needed to slow things down.

Wait, what?

You only need to run benchmark once or after every change in graphics option. Other then that you don't have to.
Then it must be when i change options. Felt like it made me run it even without changing options.

I used a regular 360 pad but now I use the PS4 one since I also play on PS4. I plan on copping the MadCatZ SFV pad when it comes out. Along with SFV.
