Kitana General Discussion

So, is low fan toss and half-blood stance the best variation? Or perhaps low fan toss, square wave, and razors? What have you guys been using competitively?

I am struggling up close without the pre-patch razors. I must have been doing 20% of chip damage with nothing but b+1,4 xx razors.
Low fan compliments HBS very well imo. Its the only way I'd never pick ground war.

Big fan of the podcast btw!

Yall gunna have to sell me on the Up Fan hype after it was nerfed. I don't see it being worth it over Low Fan.
I agree.

I am starting to believe that low fan is a requirement at this point. The start up, the traveling speed, and the hitbox makes this move one of the best projectiles in the game. If there were no gap in the amplified version, I would never complain about razors again. LOL.

Im just too much of a fan of ground war. IMO, never not use it.

i usually use ground war. low fan toss. and the air knife fan or whatever it is called. it's the one that goes downward. i used to use the highborn moves but those moves are much more of a game changer for her.

What he says is very true, and it's one of the main reasons I love fighting games and real time strategy games in general. To do well, they force you to deal with reality and to use what works, not what you want something to be like.

That's an insanely valuable life lesson overall.

At no point do I say whether I know they’re going to jump or not. It’s a split second thing where b2 is used, and in the small window where it’s decided to be used, the opponent decides to jump.

Granted you should be cautious if you see an opponent jumping constantly on certain situations, but that wasn’t the situation I was describing.

The referenced tweet is MY tweet. It's the tweet I made from my twitter account in the thread with Starcharger and Brownback.

Referencing a video of some clown that takes tweets of me stating my frustrations with how NRS designed Kitana's best mid, and suggesting that I expect the game's rules and designs to bend to my whim and that I refuse to adapt when I do nothing of the sort; and then going on about how it's some important life lesson about "personal responsibility" comes off as patronizing and condescending. You and the commentator know nothing about me, how I spend my time, or how I play/learned the game in the two years i've played it. How dare you (the commentator) take my tweets to speak to a larger issue of bad character in the FGC with such disregard.

But I see now that you didn't make the connection between me and that tweet or why I shared it, so I ain't tripping.

I even took the time to clarify in the video comments, not that it will do any good.

You're good man. I'm dropping it now.

@M2Dave Shang is problem now for Kitana.

Wound and I played a lot yesterday and I heavily struggled to get in on Shang, especially with the combination of Shake and Comets. If if you flawless block the last comet, there is no long an option to punish it such as with ground war because there is still pushback and hes less negative.

Additionally, anytime I would try to counter zone or check him after blocking a projectile, the threat of shake kept me from doing so.

All of this combined with Shang's damage buff leading to large chip damage and unbreakable combos has definitely made it bad for Kitana.

I used to do very well against Cowboy with pre-patch Highborn, but I struggle as you do now. To quote Cowboy, I literally "have no options." LOL.

I genuinely thought that Highborn used to be top 10, but if you check out the most recent tier lists released by high level players like Dragon, Honey Bee, and King Jr., they rank Kitana bottom 5.

Kitana is a character in an offensive-oriented game without any offense whatsoever. No 50/50 mix ups. No command grabs. No plus frames. No staggers. No krushing blow or okizeme on either throw. Slow mid attacks. She is arguably the most offensively challenged character in the game. Even Robocop has a command grab.

I do like the zoning, but zoning means nothing unless you accompany it with offense, of which, again, she has none.

The majority of the Kitana community wanted razors normalized so they can play a traditional Kitana. Well, those players got their wish. In my humble opinion, she is kind of bad now and I have no interest in using her any more.

I fully respect that, it doesn't help that the new wakeup changes now stop a lot of sai oki too :\

It is funny that, of all the things currently in the game, NRS felt the need to nerf razors and up-fan. I’m kind of over them, tbh.

Yes it was a super broken special move it carries a terribly designed character like Kitana to mid or high-mid tier

Don't equip the fan nado ability. The default lift is faster so it can combo off almost everything

What @Dogeofthesea said. Fannado only connects of B1, 4 outside of the corner. Make sure you're using regular Fan Lift.

Which is interesting, because just before launch, NetherRealm Studios clearly stated in one of their casts that Mortal Kombat 11 is a defensive-oriented game.
