Kitana General Discussion

I really want to give Fan-fare another serious shot as a main character. I think she is still the most fun to play variation and with those changes she really can reward putting a time into her. It's of course early to say, but I think that now instead of being crippled variation now fan-fare is just regular mid tier character.

About B231 still being trash - I hope the changes they made will make ppl jump less, but it's probably not the case, lmao

I tried FanFare and like...what are you suppose to do if they block lmao? All her strings are -5849385943859438594386943. I just think HB is the go-to unless they give her a good + string but that could potentially make HB broken.

I think we have to accept that fan-fare will always be meh, cause I don't see what they could do to help it. But I don't mind, I actually have more fun with HB.

I don't think I get what you mean. She is actually safe on everything she does. B13 is your best friend imo, since it's only -5 and spaces you really well. Also there is mindgame around B131. If ppl try to flawless block that and you do B13 you can take your turn. If they don't B131 is just good auto spacing tool.
Previously you did not want to do B14 string if you expect them to be blocking. But now when U2 got buffed? B142 I think can be good for baiting and punishing with U2 flawless block.
Your best stagger is B2. Spaced well and if they block crouching - which is usually the case - it's +1 or +2.

I just wish her dial-ins were reduced somewhat. F234 cancels are such a bitch lmao, I get that this is a core NRS mechanic, but dialing in a flurry of buttons that don't correspond with my characters actual movement will never make sense with my brain-finger neural connections.
Took me forever to get stance and razor cancels from that string, and trying out fanfare it's a big pain trying to link that cancel in combos.

Does fanfare rely on B131? I honestly never use it in HB bc of the pushback on a blocking or hit opponent.

-5 in this game is like having a neon sign above your head flashing 'MASH ON ME DADDY'. But yeah I mean her B2 stagger is really good and so is B14 but the rest of her strings feel so damn slow up close.

I mean I may have exaggerated a bit lmao but I've only been playing her for over a week. Thanks for the info, ima lab FF a bit then, but I still am enjoying freeing up people with HB it's so much fun.

Sai, sai, sai, sai, sai, TELE KICK BITCH.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Kitana might be taking Cassie's place.

You should also utilize F234. On block it provides perfect spacing for a quick D4 to hit often and resume your pressure. Just have opponents respect the gap.

Some tech from this guy I watched on stream to learn Highborn. He's a really good Kitana player.
He posted some Kitana jump tech shenanigans that others new to Kitana may find interesting.

This isn’t tech at all. If you or he would’ve looked back in this thread, you would see how old this is because this was talked about day 1 of the “3rd variation” patch.

Tech has to be a new discovery right? Air fan cancel is literally talked about in the patch notes so I don’t get how that could be tech lol. And it being +2 (not +1 like he said) doesn’t mean anything since she isn’t guaranteed anything except for a well timed d3. Double amp after the tele is old news also.

Sucks he took the time to do this but he isn’t really telling us anything that we didn’t already know, but that’s his fault for jumping so quick without doing research first

Semantics aside, when the threads are 60 pages long I ain't about searching through it all to see if something exact was posted. And since more people likely gonna jump on Kitana I was just posting it to help. Which is why I prefaced it with new kitana players may find it interesting, lol. Have the mods delete it then.

No you’re fine lol. It was more so directed at the person who made the video. I get what you were doing tho.

I can tell so far feels good to be back at Fan-Fare. I still have to practice flawless blocking situations but it feels super good finally to be able punish things like Sonya's 333 into ex rings - previously both U2 and U3 couldn't reach her.
Funny little tech I saw. Probably anyone been there. You do B142, try to bait counter poke and falwless block reversal. You mistimed it. You end up doing instant jump atack. Kitana actually can still benefit from it since she can cancel this instant jump atack into float and sometimes you can actually punish someone.

Anyone know where her -17 on block down forward 2 comes out when I mean to do in-place razors? They're pretty different motions, so having a hard time understanding why the former comes out instead of the latter sometimes.

When doing U2/U3 if you tap 2/3 just before U you get s2/s3 instead of jump when you don't flawless block. It's an OS Raptor found early in the game. Automatically techs throws if they went for a throw instead of a poke.

Gotta practice it first though because the timing is a bit tricky.

I imagine doing s2/s3 is better than whiffing a jump attack even if she can cancel it.

I can't ever set the damn AI to practice this properly.

FYI sometimes OS'ing the short hop is better imo it'll FB U2 or short hop punish the throw. I prefer that for reborn's F3

Look at your input in practice. Maybe you are sliding from b to f which can result in dbdf2. In that case practice sliding db then releasing and pressing f. Also always try to use the outer part of the d-pad.

Side note :

Are Edenian Razors the best 1 slot move in the game?

You can make a pretty sick fanfare/HB variation in customs.
