Question - Sektor Is Sektor top tier and why?

Smoke is the better triborg variation but sektor is definitely up there and super solid.

The top 5 atm is really hard to pick. It's a toss up between any of the following;

- HQT
- Full auto
- Possessed
- Sektor
- Smoke
- Flame Fist
- Summoner
- Displacer
- Etheral
- Piercing
- Demolition
- Royal Storm
- Unstoppable
- Aftershock

Mileena in all forms, for one. Possessed is two. Oddly, Royal Storm isn't a good one for him. Crystalline is pretty bad too, imo. Relentless isn't a good one either. Ermac across all variations is tough. Its basically anyone who can completely outzone him or negate his zoning give him a hard time. Mileena can do both making her his toughest matchup, imo.

Doesn't every character force you to make a read though??

Jacqui's OH into EX rocket has a gap that NO ONE uses, but even if you do backdash her 6 frame standing one will catch you is SHE makes the read.

Cassie's b1 2 string can be close by using flip kick, isn't that I read? Because you can be punished by doing that flip kick?

Tanya's b3,1,2 String has a gap that people expose, but SHE can made the read and run up with f2 or in the corner s2u3.

The game is full of reads not just sektor.

i don't think any of those people completely negate his zoning. he's damn near a better mileena if it was possible to have a better mileena wihout ball roll. possessed doesn't negate his zoning either cus up rockets. crystaline if anything is in his favor cus both ex flame and up rockets have multiple hits. with jason has a really hard time getting in with anything other than teleport because sektor's spacing is nasty and d3 beats b1 clean and teleport is generally usually a bad ideacus up rockets and he can f212bb on reaction to teleport and at least go to fullscreen. i'll give you ermac cus i know the least about that match up but this list isn't even close to "terrible match ups"

all you said is right but sektor can make reads that cover multiple options from the opponent
on top of having one of the best projectile right now in terms of startup, recovery and consequences for the opponent
if you get past that zoning, including upmissiles, he's got multiple options to screw with the opponent

I don't think Royal Storm beats Sektor, or Possessed, but I haven't played the match up enough. His D3 goes under Kenshi's D1 and that annoys me a lot lol.

I think Grandmaster is underrated vs Sektor.

Too many people here are talking about tools. Tiers are not decided by tools. They are decided by matchups. If Sektor is indeed topmost tier then that must mean he has a lot of good matchups and very few poor ones.

Take Boneshaper Shinnok for example. He actually has very few tools. He has very few practical strings, and his whole game pretty much revolves around the same setups. But he has had a lot of good/even matchups for the majority of MKX's life. Why ? I don't play him but maybe it's just very tough to get around his tight game. He enjoys matchup advantage against Sektor who has a lot more tools than Shinnok.

Sonic Fox plays so many characters at the highest level that if he says a character is top tier, it most probably is. That's because he has very good idea about how each variation in the cast would perform against Sektor.

It's all fun and games until people start to neutral jump projectile spam you and you realise your teleport whiffs neutral jumps on all cast.

Summoner ain't even in the top 5 discussion my friend. He's barely in top 10. Actually I'm pretty sure I could name 10 variations better

Sektor beats Boneshaper IMO

Boneshaper loses zoning battles vs a lot of the cast now that he lacks the 1 bar fullscreen armored launcher. It's not even just characters like Sektor and Kitana that outzone him now. Even Kano and Reptile make Boneshaper come after them.

Imo Boneshaper loses to HQT, Sektor, Possessed, Dragon Naginata, Demo Sonya, Kano and probably Mournful Kitana.

Sektor is no doubt top 5 in my mind because the character has everything. He has great mobility, great zoning, 50/50s that he can make safe, great damage, that is literally the definition of a fleshed out character. Why do you think people considered Tanya and Kitana top 5 for so long (which Kitana still is top 5 impo)? They had great zoning (Tanya kinda not but neutral control), great damage, great mobility and 50/50s. Full combo 50/50s. Not some crappy rip off 50/50s. Sektor is top 5 but that's just me. And I can see why anyone else would put him at top 5 or high tier. Character is simply incredible.

Nobody wants to do tier listings by matchup charts because it would most likely expose their own agendas. (regarding multiple variations/characters, not just Triborg)

That said, Sonic Fox playing Sektor most likely embellishes people's opinion of how good he really is (shoutouts to the 2 week honeymoon period of Cryomancer being secret top 5 and better than Grandmaster, lel), but I reckon with the tools Sektor does have, racks up a solid winning/losing matchup ratio either way. Wouldn't say he's a lock for top tier but it's not unreasonable that he's in the discussion.
