Guilty Gear -STRIVE-

Sounds like they are just using Amazon's servers for networking instead of Steams so they have one server source. Maybe it's better for solving "what if I bought it on Epic, or some other storefront" scenarios too. When Steam isn't the only place to buy a game, have each storefront have their own servers is like needing to figure out how to make crossplay work inside of a single platform.

Having one server source would probably help a lot for that, and Amazon is about as big a name in servers as anyone else, so if you were wanting to buy into an established server network then I guess Amazon makes sense. In a lot of cases PC's networks are walled into the storefronts which actually creates a fragmentation problem inside of the platform on top of the general fragmentation. Assuming they are stable, which they were struggling with in the betas, it's probably a good thing.

I do have questions about their clarification, which seems more dismissive than informative. I bought into it initially, but then wasn't sure where any of core concerns would have been addressed.

"we don't want to link our Steam!"
"Don't worry, we did it for you."
"OK! {time passes} Wait, what?"

Anyone else got this? I dunno how I feel about it honestly...played it a lot last night and trying to remain positive. Hope other people are enjoying it.

Same here, trying hard to like it but so far it's not my cup of tea. Also having VF which i enjoy a ton doesn't help. ;)

I think virtua fighter si fun but seeing as I am having so much trouble with the knowledge checks and have no drive to invest time into that game its probably not gonna last long in my rotation. I am a huge guilty gear fan but 1. The only character that I used previously that is also in strive is chipp and this does not feel like chipp at all. (bring back venom pls for the love of all things sacred) Also 2. This does not feel like guilty gear. Not trying to be one of those complainy people but this game feels like guilty gear's baby brother for people to learn the series with. Also the input forgiveness is kinda out of hand. If I dash forward and try to poke with chipp's rekka (hadouken input) I will get beta blade (shoryuken input) 100% of the time even though in training my inputs are clearly :r:r(hold):d:qtr:rS. Gonna have to use dash macro for ground dashing which seems weird af for a game with no wave dash.

Yeah i feel the same way. I only ever played Zato in GG coz he clicked for me from the get go, same as Kenshi in MK (9) but in Strive he is kinda weird, i dont want to say weak (he is still good imo) but weaker with no - even with meter reversal, his super isn't a reversal anymore too, so burst is the only thing that left... but...

In general... i don't know he feels weird in Strive probably coz of general changes in the game which is more like you pointed out - beginner friendly. It just doesn't feel right. For now im just gonna stick with VF.

The game is great.
If you don’t jive with it, that’s respectable.
But y’all with your Day-1 takes on it’s viability are a damn clownshow.
Every new fg gets this at the beginning of its cycle, from the Cheetoh fingered noob to Justin Wong, it’s always “ new fighting game is basic, the last game was so much deeper”. And those shit takes are forgotten & buried six months later. When next game comes, the cycle repeats. Short memories, and they never learn from their past.
It’s pretty fucking embarrassing, but totally expected.
If you don’t enjoy it, don’t play it. If you do enjoy it - keep on playing and develop it into the game it is meant to be. Once it’s there, most of the early doomsayers will weasel back in, pretending they never doubted it.
GGs.

Nobody said anything bad about the game.

Fighting games evolve with every iterration do you like it or not it's completly subjective and everybody have the right to like it or not and wirte it here or on any other FG forums that is what they're designed for. I don't even think that the last GG was better or "deeper", for now Strive just doesn't click for me, maybe it will in time, maybe not, we will see.

Either way everybody can expres their thoughts about the game day 0 or day 729 and the only embarrassing thing is people like you who come to forums and write shit like this. You like the game we get it, nothing wrong with that, so kindly go and enjoy the game and let us talk in peace.

Also it's obvious that our day 1 takes on characters are just that day 1 takes. Nobody takes it seriously, it's more about the "feel" atm then it is on actual balance of characters. That is a matter for later, much, much later and it is obvious for probably everybody here...

Your response was expected, and proves the point.
Now that I’ve set the tone, you can continue to discuss this game in reasonable terms.

So was yours. Anyway not gonna argue with you anymore, no point. The later part of your title says it all.

As for the game, for now i dont like it / dont feel it. And as for day 1 take - Zato feels pretty nerfed (how good or not he still is - remains to be seen).

Strive has a lot of things I think are cool (still up in the air about the wall break, need to play a lot before I decide anything). I never liked the fact you have to manually hit a button to tech out of combos after every hit so I am glad they got rid of that. But the combo system is obviously way neutered and so are the gatlings. If u cant see that then I dunno what to tell u @Swindle. Other iterations of guilty gear were extremely juggle heavy and in strive if u roman cancel a launcher and try to juggle they just slam to the ground after a hit or 2. I think theres a reason there are no combo trials in this game. That is another thing I think is very strange, the omission of combo missions/trials. Albeit the combos are way shorter in this game, the trials can be really helpful to newcomers especially to understand how a character works. Also, there is no frame data in the training mode.

I think the game is fun it just is a huge departure from what guilty gear has been up until this point. Also as a venom main who dabbles in slayer/Jam/kum/chipp when playing around, the roster is a bit lackluster for me. Hard to find something I want to play which never was a problem previously. Gonna try Chipp and Anji we shall see :).

Pretty much agree with all of that. Also wtf is with all the May players today. I really got enough of dolphins (and that sound) for today. ;)

The devs were quite clear that there were features that were intended to be in at launch which have been relegated to post-release patches/content. Covid is a bitch. I believe some of the issues you mentioned are to be added.
As for Strive feeling different than previous GG games, of course it does. Since the devs started communicating about this game, they explicitly stated that this game is different. The fact that many people still are shocked and appalled by this is bizarre. How many times are people here going to say “not like GG” before it sinks in that THIS IS WHAT WAS INTENDED.
Can people discuss what this game IS rather than what it ISNT, or is wallowing in things they don’t enjoy a hallmark of gaming culture these days?

Bro its my first day playing the game and ofc I am shocked at how it feels. I knew what was coming and even still I was shocked. I don't think it is a bad game nor did I say it is...can you just go complain somewhere about how u hate tekken or some other nonsensical shit? I am not a game dev but how many development hours can it possible take to add frame data into training mode?

After playing all day yesterday I am coming around to it. Mainly because I swapped to Nagoriyuki and having a freaking blast. Thanks a lot to @Evil Canadian for the combo video he did. Helped me get my blood drive under control.
If anyone here is playing zato I would love to run some sets. I got sent down twice yesterday by the same zato player who mixed me out of my shoes. Need to learn how to play neutral in that matchup better so I don’t get smothered.

I'm not sure but that could've been me. :D I only play Zato. We can run some sets soon if you want.

Anyone else planning on playing Strive on PC? I won't have the luxury of playing this release weekend as I'll be out of town, but I definitely would like to learn the game alongside and fight against others here.
