Evo and NRS Commentary

Come On Die Young
Are you aware that I invented multiple MKX techs so interesting that NRS had to specifically patch them out, or that when Whiteboi switched from F/T to Jason I told him he was making a mistake, he told me I was sleeping on Jason, and then the next tournament I saw him at he said I was right

edit: my current favorite exclusively-nrs-scene commentators are ketchup, mustard, & kitana prime. but i like how chef & godspeed have stepped up! i wish 16 bit hadn't stopped but that's up to him or his work of course. aris is awesome and some of my most fun commentary sessions ever have been with him.
That's why I don't have an issue with you so much though. You have knowledge within the scene, but I don't think you'd dispute that you have gaps in that knowledge that some of these other people wouldn't. I wouldn't have a problem at all with someone like you teaming up with someone like 16bit. The issue here is moreso about having two commentators outside our scene, while other games regularly have someone who specializes in that game.

lol someones tryna call David out and uses an example of him not knowing what to say in a GRAPPLER match up? oh too good. followed by accusing David of saying vague stuff like 'thats interesting' while David has put out videos addressing that aspect of his own commentary in commentary on commentary. and he already doesnt do that often, and now hes like aware of it and actively trying to get rid of it.
I'm giving an example of how someone who hasn't spent years closely following the NRS scene might not know things about players/characters beyond what's common knowledge and who the regular placers are. David definitely does his research and takes an interest in NRS games more than other general FG commentators, but you're missing the point

If Mustard and I can make it to EVO, we would happily do it.

Hell, if I could get sent there magically just to commentate instead of play I'd cast the whole damn tournament. Always dreamed of casting EVO.
Someone start conjuring that magic nauuuu!!!

Kitana Prime

Top-tier at everything but the characters I choose
While I think KP is awesome on commentary and quite knowledgeable, his delivery is more subdued and he doesn't get himself going; just not his personality. He's the kind of commentator you want on an alt audio stream giving you the play by play, but his voice doesn't lend itself to the main stage as-is. He also runs into the issue of not knowing how to jump in -- look no further than his commentary with Blake and you can see that he'll quickly take a back seat to an aggressive co-commentator.
Gotta disagree here. I definitely get up as everything progresses and you can feel the change from the first match in Top 8 and Grand Finals.

At least thats how I feel. Maybe it doesn't translate, but I don't see it.

Second underline, sorry, I love the guy, but it's Blake. He was so used to commentating for himself at the time (with his stream and running online tourneys, etc) he usually is prepared to solo commentate everything. Drowned everyone during those times.

Remember this was pre-YOMI, years ago at KiT for Injustice. Different, way more refined KP on the mic nowadays.

Not singling you out or anything, all of this discussion is great.

But of course.

I'd obviously do it 1000%

Every single time.
One thing I implore you to work on is telling back stories and histories of competitors before a match. Explain to people why they should care, don't fabricate but educate (did not mean to make that rhyme like green eggs n ham )

Also sometimes you say A LOT with out saying anything. Commit to an opinion and make them known whether it's PC or not

I am writing this because I really like you and wanted to offer positive critique . You're awesome for the scene

it's true that i don't care about the bs tym drama, but i do make sure to know as many players as i can irl. i know that i'm better known for street fighter, but i've been playing and commentating in the nrs scene since mk9 in 2011, so at this point i'm pretty well familiar with a lot of people.

right now i'll totally admit i don't have the game knowledge. until this mkx beta, i hadn't played since probably october. but i'm getting back into it now! thanks be to commando b1 command grab

You do realize what you're asking me to do with this one, right?

The point is whack because David hits all the things you want in a commentator but you keep saying he's missing things which isn't true at all.

I think Ultradavid and Aris are a great team, like the condiment bros. KP is really great. I think he combos well with Michelangelo as they both ozze enthusiasm for the game. a real suprise for me was KIT. Sonic and Tyrant commentated 1 match and it was really hilarious and also very technical. Kinda shocked.

agreed, except that those guys from the American ESL are probably the worst casters I have ever heard.

Wasn't Tyler Lansdown an Evo commentator at one point with Derek? Or was that a different tournament?
He commentated at UFGT10 with 16Bit. For some reason them commentating PPJ versus Filipino Man is ingrained in my Injustice days memory lol. That match up was super hypr tho.

If you get the ok form the event guys, and they do not send you over.. start a gofund me page... I bet that will get you there in no short order.

I may be biased but how do you guys NOT really push for @EGP Wonder_Chef on this? smh TYM, this guy lives and breaths nrs. This dude not only commentates and plays MKX at a pretty decent level, but he single handedly runs AND puts together tournaments in SoCal. Def a top tier commentator, Gimme @UltraDavid @Kitana Prime @EGP Wonder_Chef @PND_Ketchup @PND_Mustard @Sajam. I like @YOMI RM JagoBlake and @YOMI DJT for the wild card. Blake does not get enough credit in commentary and DJT is just hilarious AND knowledgable

haha i'm not talking about tym drama though. i mean like histories of lesser-known or underrated players who we could see rise up to top 8, match histories between players who might fight, things like that. that's what i'm saying, like, you're a great commentator and i don't think anyone would have an issue with you in the booth. the issue here is getting at least one of our own people in there too. someone like 16bit, kitana prime, or ketchup/mustard teaming with someone like you could help fill in gaps on knowledge or information you may be missing while being entertaining commentators in their own rights

Aris is funny and entertaining, even if he doesn't have the deep game knowledge, his type is needed for a stream. It's a tournament, not a lab session.

@UltraDavid is a professional through and through, you can put him together with anyone.

@Kitana Prime is great and I think he brings not just deep game knowledge but the hype too.

Ketchup & Mustard seem to always be dialed to 11 and tbh I don't enjoy their commentary too much, maybe they're too similar, I dunno. Maybe not pairing them together would be better.

He even admitted he's lacking a lot of game knowledge right now. And like I said, I'm not saying kick David out, I'm saying put at least one of our guys in whether it's with him or with another one of our guys. If you're not a specialist for a community you're going to be missing information that can help viewers get interested in a match.

Like, for example, Milky Situation didn't come out of nowhere. He was a big online warrior back in mk9 and very good Reptile player, went to Evo in 2011 but didn't perform that well, and wasn't seen much offline since. So him coming back to get top 8 in MKX was actually pretty interesting. There's bits of info like that that they're unlikely to be familiar with

Honestly, Ketchup and Mustard on commentary for EVO2016 Top 8 would be hype af. Or one of the bros. and Aris lol
