What's new

Ed Boon's hint about the returning -ALITY, "never present in the arcade period of the series."

If Hara Kiri were an option, Ed wouldn't have listed it as a returning "-ality".

It's Brutality. It's the only "-ality" that wasn't in any arcade version of MK.

I'm sure they'll make them awesome instead of retarded like in MKT with 43287940 rib cages and all that. Hopefully it'll be a painful display of snapping all kinds of bones and shit like that instead of just a ripoff of ultra combos with a gory finish.

Guys, y'all missing the point. The translation in the first post is very accurate. He didn't say "a finisher that wasn't included on the arcade versions of the old games". The article does state that he said "a finisher that wasn't present IN THE ARCADE DAYS of the franchise" (this is just another way of translating it, as I said the translation in the first post is pretty much accurate).
The "arcade days of the franchise" means 1992 - 1997 (MK4), which covers the period that had finishers like friendships, babalities, animalities and of course brutalities. Now, which new finishers we got AFTER 1997? Well, we got exactly 3: Hara-Kiris, Multalities and Heroic Brutalities (lol).
In order to perform a Multality (God, this name is stupid), you need to have a partner, but MKX doesn't have tag-team mode, so we can get rid of this possibility. Heroic Brutalities... Just no. This leaves us with Hara Kiris and Hara Kiris only.
I agree with you guys that Brutalities make more sense, since it was supposed to be included in MK9 and all, but, following this specific hint, the only reasonable answer would be Hara Kiris.

They need to add babalities. The salt levels for those u baby can't not happen imo. Give us the new ality but give us a babality please.
Not pressing block for the entire second round is just to funny heh. I hope someone from NRS like @colt see this post. Keep the salt alive!!!

LEARN FROM THIS
To the guys who posted the brutality sound files from MK9, good find. I almost completely forgot about that.

Something else crossed my mind, remember before E3, Ed Boon tweeted to Ken Lobb about making a MK vs KI crossover? Obviously that was just to get us all talking, but honestly, you know Jago or Fulgore is more than likely gonna be the console exclusive guest character for the XBone version of MKX. So with that in mind, imagine the KI character in MKX performing a Brutality to resemble Ultra Combo Finishers. I see that happening anyway.

Didn't boon state he hated Hara Kiris? Or am I just imagining things?

Brutalities most likely, maybe Hara Kiri's. Both would be cool, but I was kinda hoping for Animalities/Mercy's.

I said it once and I'll say it again... BRUTALITY

But I would love to see Hara-Kiri's return! Just make them hard as Nightwolf in MKD could get his out every time before you could fatal him because it was SO easy lol

Tell me, do you bleed?
I'm pretty sure it's brutalities. They were going to be included in MK9, but time restraints prevented that from happening. I see no reason why they would abandon the idea now...you know...."next gen brutalities."
By the way, is there A CHANCE for this to be something else other than Brutalities? We already know that it is a returning "-ality" (and no, Boon COULDN'T have been lying, he made it clear that it was a returning one), now he says that it's not in the arcade. Notice that they didn't say it was a new finishing move, they said that it was a new "-ality", so it CAN'T be Hara Kiris, unless they considered changing the name of it. The run feature is already there. I'm pretty sure that this is the return of Brutalities.

Didn't brutalities came to be on MK3?(and wasn't 3 in the arcades?)

Hara-kiri could be a possibility, although i don't think it's as iconic as the others. If i could pick one i would like to see Animalities back, but those started in MK3 as well.

By the way, i speak Portuguese, and one interesting bit is that Boon says that this game had more than 30 chracters to work upon during development. Which i believe is good news(since the character selection screen has less than 30 portraits), but no idea if it will be 30+ out of the gate, or if a fraction of that is DLC

Casual Aspirations
I would imagine the Brutalities will be a hybrid of Ultra Combos and X-Ray attacks. I hope they're just a savage maiming with lots of internal damage, like an extended X-Ray attack.

KTK: With all the experience since the first MK in 1992, what's the difference in the creation process of a game like MKX e of the first games of the franchise 22 years ago.

EB: On the first game there were only seven characters fighting withut any kind of story e besides that, there were only for professionals to handle it all. In MKX everything is more complex. We have 130 professionals involved on production and now that we have to to make 3 variations for each of the fighters, we still have to make a huge story behind that with deep characters.
All of this don't cease to be a great experience, but requires a lot of more work than before. For example we took about 8 months to make the first game of the series and this one is taking two and a half years to produce, with all variations of gameplay and over thirty characters to detail.

Does it means more work than fun?
EB: All of this can still be fun, no doubt, but the work part still a big. I'd say it's about half/half

Are the new character created fo MKX trying to creating a restart of the franchise?

EB: Absolutaly. MK9 was tottaly based on the return of some players it was more nostalgic; E now we feel is time to introduce as many things as possible. new characters, new storys, new scenarios. So we had to put as many resourcers as we could with the new generation of consoles

Who of the new characters of MKX is your favorite? Why?
EB: My favorite character is Ferra/Torr, because is the most singular figure we developed in a long time. But I also like characters that are descendent of others like Cassie cage..... I like a lot of the idea of a new generation of characters...

How do you evaluate de premiere of the franchise on the new generation of consoles?
EB:We're living in such exciting times, with this new generation of videgames people want new experiences, they want new graphics, new ways to have fun. However, at the same time, they want these more classic elements of MK e I think we found the perfect marriage.

How can MKX appeal to casuals and hardcore fans?
This is one thing we always put a lot of effort. MK always were a game to pick up, call your friends, oppen up some bears e make some cool stuff with the characters. But, at the same time, we basically always try to add some resourcers to appeal de real gamers, like the 3 variations.

How important is the hardcore community that competes on tourneys around the world?
I thinks it is extremely important. The casual players are 95%. Hardcore 5% but they enjoy the game in another way they spread the word about the game, so it is a lot important to have this kind of player on your side because they will be playing 2.3 years after release.

Nowadays can you imagine a child in front of the TV having fun with MK as it happened 2 decades ago with the oldest fans of the franchise?

No, absolutaly not. MK was never developed to the younger players. MK was always made to be an R rated movie. I don't think kids should play MK, but that was a different time. I think back then MK wasn't as explicit now with the the lattest graphics, it was more like a cartoon.

If you could choose a franchise of FG to make a "Vs MK", which one would be? Why?
EB: Abstolutaly Street Fighter, it is my favorite competitive game. I thinks both style would complete the other.

Already translated finishers part.

TLDR Nothing extra
PS.:Rushed translation
