I still need to figure the game out: how to play the neutral, when to dragon rush, how to punish a dragon rush, what to do when someone is just pressing buttons, etc.

EDIT: One of the things that is getting me killed online is not being able to raw tag when needed. You're supposed hold the assist button, right?
Yeah you can hold it or press forward+assist, but if your assist is on cooldown (the portrait is blacked out) you can't switch till it's back to full. Some other things can lead to you being not allowed to switch immediately (portrait will have a big X on it) so keep an eye on those if you're trying to switch.

Down+heavy universally are fully invincible to airborne attacks, so if someone is doing super dashes like a moron down heavy that shit for a full combo.

For people pressing buttons if it's in neutral using a beam, airdash into heavy or super dash is good, or simply block and call your assist to fuck them up, if it's during your pressure try staggering to frametrap, like say do light light (autocombo 2nd hit) then delayed crouch medium. Experiment for whatever works with your character but the staggers are good to give them room to try to press a button or jump and get bopped.

Np man! Vegeta is a really good starter because he has all the tools for every situation, good combo potential, and easy execution. Him and Goku are very good to start off just so you can feel out the basics of the games as far as moving from auto combos to manual combos. And that new COMBO CHALLENGE mode they have for each character is PERFECT for you to feel out each character. Easy to complete, get a basic knowledge of game mechanics, and you get Zeni for each completion
Vegeta is a good beginner character just make sure he's last. He's a waste up front, he uses meter too well to not be in the back and his assist is way too good. Anchor is definitely his best spot.

Goku is best in the middle to have some meter to burn, he doesn't need it but he's way better with it and he's the only character atm that can combo super into super solo without any assists so he can get big damage easy.

Crap, I thought the super dash was named Dragon Rush. People are lower levels love to abuse the dash button. It looks like some 2Hs also punish it, but I need to learn that timing. For some reason Yamcha can also punish them on block with wolf gang fist, I thought the super dashes were supposed to plus?

Man I need some frame data, haha. Thanks for the suggestions!
Super dashes can be punished before they connect by down heavy or a lvl1 super early and lvl3s even late. There's also lots of moves that can't be super dashes through ie kamehameha, frieza stand heavy, kienzan etc.
you can set the training dummy to spam super dash to practice what works and what doesn't.

On block they are neutral so you can't punish them afaik, plus the opponent has all their options after it's blocked so they can jump or airdash away, hit buttons, do a super etc.
Also during sparking super dash can be cancelled into normals so if you block it you gotta hold whatever comes after making it even more annoying.

Sitting the lab for hours when you don’t know what to lab is not going over so well. I’ve never labbed an anime fighter so all I’m practicing are combos, setups, assist opportunities, etc.

How many j.c repetitions can you get in one combo? I can only get 2 j.c’s, the initial one OTG then once in the air. Is that the limit?

I just spent a lot of time in training lab. Just getting a feel for the game and some characters. This was my end result, and it was glorious.

Been up for nearly 40 hours, drunk af. Still can’t sleep because I can’t stop thinking about playing this game when I get home tomorrow.

Book of Mormon was lit btw.

Toyed around with ssjb Vegeta with what little time I had, loved it. Feels deeper than ssj to me. Also, so glad he’s got Galick gun. Shame it’s ground only though....

5 and a half hours to go. Gotta “get up” to go to London for 2 days @04:45 (~10 hours). I’m sure future me will be very disappointed in present me’s decision to not sleep at all tonight.

Going to see Book of Mormon though. Should be ace.
Present me actually thinks past me made the right call, and is hardcore af... future me is bound to be a pussy this time though.

Anybody know how to cancel trunks' auto combo when he side switches? I saw someone do it and can't figure out how.
You generally cancel auto combos by holding back. Like 5L, 4/6L, 5L on some characters means the auto combo won’t trigger. You can do it with M on some characters too like Cell. Cell can 5M, 4/6M, 5M, 2M I believe, hard to remember from memory.

Terrible times breed terrible things, my lord.
Loving the combo challenges! Take note nrs. This is what fighting games need along with a proper tutorial, which is non existent in Tekken 7 unfortunately.

Really good call on Arc Systems and the good dudes over at Blamco Namco for putting this much need mode in.

Seriously hope SC6 and Fighting layer follow suit.

The building of new muscle memory is real.

Looks like my first team to try out will be A.Gohan, SS Vegeta and Goku Black.

Not a very unique team but I need easy characters to learn. Hit was very awkward, difficult to learn for me. He’s the type of character I will need to put on the back burner for now until I know waaay more about the game.

SSB Vegeta is cool but I think regular SS Vegeta is better. Honestly same with Goku.

Need to try Trunks, he seems super swaggy.

I booted up the game yesterday with the idea that Hit would be my point. After half hour in the lab I realised he is way beyond my understanding right now

Didn't get to play either beta so it's definitely a struggle but I'm loving Trunks rn. Just tryna get the hang of this combo system.

Completed the combo challenges and damn Hit is too cool for me to not play.

J.C. is jump cancel, right? Then yeah, that'd be the limit based on GG. A typical air combo would be like (NRS notation) combo into the air, 2,1,JC, 1, 1, 2, 3, special IIRC

Mine is looking like A.Gohan, Cell, SSJBlue Vegeta.

A.Gohan is amazing.

We're all from Earthrealm. If not, cool pic brah.
Been labbing Gotenks. Found a lot of things, one particularly awesome one is the fact that his Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack is active for quite some time, that if a character with a fast enough super DHCs in after, he can actually convert off the ghosts. Only a fraction of the roster can do this however.

This one here that I worked out for Cell is strongly making me consider including him on my team.

I grinded out another one with Tien however, and this one is just absurd.

6 bars, works anywhere on the screen, only uses 2 characters and no other resources. Its scales with how much meter you have, you can just stop pressing supers whenever you want and its all good damage no matter how much you sink in. Also... ITS OVER 9000

Tien's outfit is so fckin lame in this game tho, so I just can't bring myself to put him on the team, even tho he synergises so well with Gotenks in many ways. If you like Tien, do yourself a favor and add Gotenks to your team, this character has so much nutso stuff.

Ok, so my buddy told me this game plays like Guilty Gear. Would you all agree with that assessment?
it shares the movement and combo system and developers and a few inspirations in character designs, so it's not too far off. But it's different pacing and mechanics

A lot of super useful information.
Thanks! I need to practice that.

So I got to play some Freiza during story mode, and boy is he super fun. His level one death ball is so satisfying to hit. What position do you all think Freiza's is designed to be? From my very limited experience, it looks like he makes a good middle or anchor character.

I can't stop playing this game! The last time I was into a fighting game as much as this was MvC3.
