Dragon Ball FighterZ Discussion Thread (Game)

It's all so very confusing.
Yes that one, after more testing Cell and gotenks can do it in the corner as well and Goku Blue's hard knockdown comes in handy too as it gives you enough time to throw one out on wake up. I haven't tried to see if hits worked yet I figured his assist wouldn't keep them in place long enough

Edit: hits keeps them in place longer than I thought it works in the corner
I'll try to find the footage, but I'm almost sure I saw this work midscreen

The main thing is that all the assists into fat throw are corner only other than Vegeta's (maybe Kid Buu can do it anywhere as well but wow the timing is rough) I wonder if Bardock or Broly will offer any more "hey I'm gonna keep this character in place for a bit" types of assists

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/dragonballfighterz/comments/82fu1g/how_to_setup_majin_buus_fat_throw_with_all/

Not exactly what I was looking for but it's a start. Shows lots of midscreen stuff.

I rather see matchup numbers to judge a characters power level than to start down playing the fact that the players themselves are over 9000.

Cell - 15
Vegeta - 14
Goku Black - 12
Android 16 - 9
A.Gohan - 7
Trunks - 5
Android 18 - 5
Goku - 4
Android 21 - 4
Kidd Buu - 3
Goku Blue - 3
Hit - 2
Yamcha - 2
Beerus - 2
Nappa - 1
Vegeta Blue - 1
Cpt Ginyu - 1
Piccolo - 1
Frieza - 1

T.Gohan, Krillin, Gotenks, Majin Buu - 0

Those complaining about A.Gohan without also mentioning Cell, Vegeta, 16 and Black make no sense. All 5 are super strong. Same with Trunks and Android 18.
See.. I love this stuff.

The top 5 is exactly what I expected, excepting I thought Vegeta would be #1 and Cell #2. Trunks is a surprise. Not that he's not strong, just surprised he usurped the likes of 21 and 18 and Kid.

I feel like I see fewer Kids. I dont know why exactly.. I know he has a lot of gimmicks that arent going to work against the top guys but he's solid with a really good assist. Shrug.

I thought we'd see a TGohan or two, but who knows. I genuinely think he's stonger than generally thought and strong enough for competitive play. I mean, I guess its as simple as several characters just being "better" than he is. He offers some unique stuff, and has great pressure, but so do a ton of other characters and some of them are, as things stand, just plain better than he is. But its a shame more players arent trying to make a competitive splash with him.

Still.. super cool little list and this kind of stuff is always interesting to me. Id LOVE it if FGs kept updated and constantly available stats on pick rates and such with various search and filter functions. It would be interesting in DBFz for instance to be able to see useage rates across all online play, regardless of modes, then be able to split it up into modes, then further change and refine those searches based on time or number of matches played or win rates or just whatever. Just lots of ways to organize the data. I guess its silly, since the few people who would be interested wouldnt warrant the time and effort to implement the stuff.

We're all from Earthrealm. If not, cool pic brah.

Hit, 18, SS Goku - 1

Anyone saying Vegeta isn't top tier should publicly apologise now before this gets too embarrassing lol. This is abysmal Tremor all over again

I think everyone agrees his assist is S++ but as a solo char, they disagree. I love Vegeta anyway, so I'm using him regardless of tier, dude is a goon and I love it

but this isn't a 1v1 game.

More than half the people at the highest level of the game feel he's a stronger choice than someone else they could have picked instead, like Cell, Black, A. Gohan, etc. He's consistently being chosen over these characters for what he brings to a team, even if it isn't 1v1 ability. He's absolutely in the highest tier there is.

Just having a dp puts him ahead of most of the cast. His combos from Ki blasts are decently long to run out sparking, small hitbox and his damage is decent. I do not even need to mention his assist I just don't understand how anyone could of thought he was bad in the first place, oh yeah SF said so.

Maybe it's because vegeta seems more "honest" than what is considered the higher tiers? Idk just spit balling here. I love using the blue and yellow versions of him in a team, personally

Yeah Vegeta is stout. Aside from his assist though hes Ryu-esque.. He doesn't have anything that makes you stand up and take notice or is flashy, but everything he has is really solid and he does everything well. Make's for a strong character.

I think the initial "hes not very good" idea behind him was that he wasn't a good character to run back a bad game. Or wasn't thought to be. He doesn't have the same level of dirt as some others, and again, he wasn't particularly showy. But then people started to get better at just playing the game, like a solid, simple, fundamental (as much as anime games ever play that way) style and as they got better at that, and every round wasnt purely about SICKNASTYNOSCOPEDORITOSMIXUPSDAWG, his strengths showed more. Additionally, the fluidity of character swapping in the game helps as well.. Even if he's your 'anchor' if a game isnt going like you want it and you feel like you need a powerhouser like Black or someone to be the last man standing, its easy to make that happen.

Vegeta is a fav of mine due to how he plays. He wasnt originally, but Ive come to like how clean and concise and straight forward he can be. Ive *thought* about swapping Black out and running him instead.. either way it goes Im packing a massively over played character for one of my spots.. but fuck it. I cant make my entire team snowflakes when I like so many of the top characters. Hit isnt rare, but hes not super common and TGohan *IS* rare, lol, so I feel like Ive bought myself a little scumbag room to run someone like Black or Vegeta or something.

PAUSE! Vegeta is not broken in the slightest. He just has the best damn assist in the game. Dont get caught up on matchup numbers. Look at the characters as a whole, and like i said before ANYBODY with any type of LOOPS is pretty broken.

There's no way we have good MU numbers yet.. at all.

I dont think Vegeta is broken either, but his assist might be. Its a tricky thing though, do you weaken a character to balance an assist? or do you balance an assist to strengthen a character? Interesting food for thought on how that all works/should work.

The issue isnt characters being broken, its that some characters just make huge swathes of the cast pointless outside fanboying and picking characters you have some personal connection with (nothing wrong with this, but we're competition geared here, so for purposes of most of our discussions, its about effectiveness). And using Vegeta as an example, I mean.. his assist coupled with his very solid design make him just BETTER than a ton of other characters.

yeah.. I messed around a little last night, not for long, but just fiddling with blockstrings and various assist backups.. Mannnnnnnnnnnnnn.

I wont ever drop Hit, but I cant help but kinda salivate at like.. TG - Kid Buu - Vegeta. I mean, that's a lot of dedication just for TG, but both those characters hold their own extremely well, and EVERYONE benefits from Vegeta assist. Kid is a very TG-like character as well, IMO.. his pressure and his speed and everything.
