some news about my arcade cab :
a while ago i saw an ad here in the netherlands of someone selling a MK2 pcb board.
It was not tested and the pics were too little.
I already have a MK2 pcb (the challenger edition) but a normal revision one would also be cool to have.
The soundcard wasn't included and also no wirering.
Even the CMOS battery wasn't on the pictures.
I asked the seller what he wanted for this pcb including shipping to me.
he told a very high price and i told him that it was untested, no wiring and no sound board.
The price was too high for a wild guess.
I also asked him for some better detailed pictures of the board so that i can make sure it is MK2, because the one on the picture looked different than mine MK2 board.
He send me some detailed pictures and apologized that he told me it was MK2.
He saw that it was MK3 !
That made me happier and when i looked at the detailed pictures i saw UMK3 and we all know what that means
i told him that i wanted the board and it arrived safe and well packed.
that was a couple of weeks ago.
Yesterday i was early at home and decided "hey let's test the UMK3 board and see of it works".
First i found a digital version of the UMK3 manual and looked at the settings of the dipswitches.
I found out that the setting of the dipswitches decide if its free play or not and blood on / violence on etc.
i changed the setting to free play and blood on and violence on.
I also looked were i have to connect the kick harness and audio.
I saw that the audio was a tulip connector and the wiring from the cab was a flat connector.
I also found a picture of a UMK3 board and compared that one with mine.
all the chips were on the board.
I took the battery from the MK2 board and installed it on the UMK3 board.
i connected the pcb harness and the kick harness without the audio.
Just wanted to see if the board worked.
i switched the cab on and then
BOOOOM !!!!!! everything exploded.
LOL sorry just kidding, i was looking if your still paying attention my very long story LOL
when i switched it on the self test came and the video was good.
all the chips were check and they were good too.
then the game started (without the sound of course)
Free play was also set so the dipswitches did their work.
i hit the start button (that worked too
) and i could play UMK3 !!!!
As you may understand, the base of the cab is a MK1 version and there is no RUN button (yet
)
but all the other buttons worked perfectly.
My son (7 years old) and i played some games against each other.
He has UMK3 on his NDS and he was good with reptile and he kicked my ass
We played it for almost an hour, and the board didn't crash or something.
So i'm very happy about my bargain
The revision version is 1.2 of this board.
Now i have a MK1 board, MK2 board and a UMK3 board.
now i have too look for a MK4 board and a RC 6 in 1 pcb extension
now i have to do some things to let it work properly :
- buy a cmos battery
- make 2 RUN buttons on my control panel, the wiring to the kick harness is already there.
- find out if i can use the soundboard of MK2 (i think it's the same for MK3,UMK3 and MK4) or do i need an extra soundcard for each board if i make a multiple pcb's cab (6 in 1 pcb). Maybe someone here knows that.
- i have to find out how i can make the tulip plug on the UMK3 board working for the sound
