I only liked fatalities when they were hilarious and overtop like in UMK3. You also had babalities and friendships so they were just a fun way to rub it in your opponent's face.
Now they're becoming way too graphic and almost like porn so I find them pretty disgusting and pointless.
This is the only right answer. Lets set something straight. The fatalities back in the day were HILARIOUS. They were concise and ridiculously over the top. You had 30 torsos per fatality. The fatalities were never disgustingly gory like a horror film. You didnt feel the pain and wince with them. You entered a snap code in a fraction of a second to dominate your friends and send 3 spinal collumns flying.
The major differences in fatalities today:
1. Execution
The window of execution is far too lenient, there is no skill required for a fatality, its more a reward for winning the match instead of being a reward in itself for simply pulling it off. It is no longer rewarding to perform a fatality because there is no barrier. Its free.
2. Visual appearance of fatalities has changed. Perhaps due to hardware limitations of the 90s the fatalities ended up appearing the way they did - nondescript limbs exploding in all directions in a ridiculous and satisfying explosion of blood. That NEVER happens anymore, instead we have strangely sadistic and horrificly painful and graphic fatalities which go directly against the slapstick kneejerk of the olden days.
3. The fatalities are far too cinematic. Fatalities in old MK were complete in no more than 2 seconds. It was a big "Fuck you I won by the way youre dead again." Due to the cinematic or theatrical nature of the new methodical boring fatalities, it no longer salts the wound for just the opponent, but everyone that has to sit through the unexciting uninteractive scripted animation thats about to happen for the next 20 seconds. Its B O R I N G
