Derek Kirtzic on Ranked Matchmaking in MK11

PAUSE! People actually do that !?Question mark?!
I saw a previous post from SaltShaker that said you can have unlimited rematches. I only play Tekken offline so I wouldn't know how often it happens but you can bet your ass people would abuse that. If people are willing to pull the plug on current NRS games to try and preserve their win/loss record then they'd do anything to preserve their title of "Ultra Grand Master Scopion Player" yknow?.

I don't know if you were around for SFV's release, but people used to pull the plug just so they could keep their win streak. People have massive egos and really weird ideas about their perception to random people online (even though nobody cares lol). I'd just like for rank to sort of tell the true story rather than it being this thing that doesn't mean anything and is easy for people to attain or cheat. I want it to be authentic.

Farming only hurts them in the longrun though. Imagine being ranked in the top 50 without being good at a game. You can never step into ranked without your buddy

This is important, but please please please do NOT have a percentage win odds indicator. So many people decline matches because they see they have "0%" win odds in MKX. First of all, that is rarely true that anyone has zero chance to win even one game especially online, and second of all it just leads to too many declines.

Yes, system should match you with similar caliber opponents, just do it in a more subtle/sensible way.

I would be for unlimited matches like tekken tbh. boosters will be easy to sniff out once you play them and who cares about online leaderboards nowadays. only thing I'm concerned about is if there will be a strict enough rq penalty or not.

I mean, i get that losers would always find ways to cheat but the rematch thing is a new one for JBeezY. Thats shitty.

Its a problem in DBFZ right now.
!!!!!!!....DAMN.....!!!!!!!

But then you'd have to select your character before the match, right? Seems confuse, but I have zero knowledge about these things.
Some games actually do that. It’s very annoying. Like in Street Fighter V, you select your character before even going into matchmaking. I don’t like it.

However, I do hope they implement a ranking system similar to SFV, where you have different tiers and only get matched up according to that.

I want ranked to be legit af. I don't want unlimited rematches so that people can farm and boost accounts. I'm so happy that ranked is finally going to feel like it's ranked lol
As long as we keep unlimited rematches in unranked! Some of the most fun I’ve ever had in MK was finding someone of similar skill level in an MK9 lobby and rematching for hours using random select.

for individually ranked characters, the tradeoff is totally worth it. Avoiding counter picks before the first match makes sense for ranked too.

I mean, who really cares about those losers who boost their rank? They'll just get destroyed by people who ranked up legitimately, and if there is a replay feature like SFV, we'll all be able to see who is a fraud. They're weasels and nobody pays attention to them.

Revenge matches should definitely be in, Tekken 7 has the best ranked mode because of it. You get into absolute wars with people, can focus on the matchup more, and don't have to worry about load times. When you finally rank up in those huge sets it's very satisfying. Worrying about boosters isn't a good enough reason to completely dismiss such a fun mode.

When i play someone new or whatever i repeat the same starter over and ovrr only tryin to react to their shitty jumping etc. I found by round three theyve stopped jumping and are actually engaging their brains its quite fun and i feel like a sensei

I mean sure but what about the people who just want to consistently find matches against people of the same skill level? If ranked is littered by boosters you just spend ages destroying boosted noobs and accidentally boost yourself in the process. Then next thing you know you run into HoneyBee (for example) who has to destroy you because you're boosted and then all of a sudden ranked doesn't maintain its integrity; the games aren't fun, nobody is of the same skill level, and you need to spend lots of time foraging for the diamond in the rough.

With everything I've said, I think all of this negatively contributes to and damages the longevity of the online community. Having a good, accurate and healthy ranked system that's fun for people can be the key to not losing so many potential players. I think a solution could be to not allow revenge matches to award any additional benefits to ELO points (if that's how they're doing the system) or recorded stats - that way if both players want to continue playing then they can without artificually screwing with their skill rating.

For Tekken 7 rank, you gain one point for leveling up by playing against people in your own rank.
Above or below 1 rank = 0.5
Above or below 2 ranks = 0.25
Above or below 3 ranks = 0.125

boosters and cheaters will be a very small minority so it wont be that damaging. it will be an inconvienance to have to play them every once in a while but you can just win quit and move on. ndb

Boosters definitely wouldn't cause the rankings to be a mess of different skill levels. The way revenge matches work is when the difference between each player's rank is too high, the set ends. When the winner searches for a new player, the rank has to be similar enough for another revenge match to happen. Boosters wouldn't be able to get to high ranks.

I recently started playing on Xbox One with my buddy on MKX and went into ranked. Got matched up against someone with 11,000 wins and 700 losses for my first match.

The messages I received after mopping him were glorious. Needless to say he added me and we ran a pretty lengthy set. I explained I wasnt a noob and had played extensively on PS4 and had some good practice against some top players in MKX hay day.

Its moments like these that make ranked glorious.

Sounds good, they should also add an option for ranked to have a mini series and not just one and done automatically. Though I typically stick to player match rank due to being able to play more than one game and KOTH rooms honestly are just fun af remind me of the arcade days.

Oh, PLEASE let there be a replay theatre feature. Some of the most fun I had outside of matches in DBFZ was watching the replays of some of the highest ranked players just to find out that they were hella boosted.

Another thing I hope they include is some sort of indicator if someone rage quits or disconnects a lot. I can't imagine quitalities have gone anywhere, but it'd be nice to know if somebody had a habit of pulling the plug.
