Again with the controversy? Capcom, what is wrong with you?

Mortal Kombat's days of controversy are long over with. Get with the times Capcom.

As far as I understand, it's actually a lot more expensive for developers to make DLC completely off-disc. Apparently Sony and Microsoft charges more based on the file sizes. Not to mention it's a lot more convenient for the consumer to not have such a large download anyway. Not everyone has the large HD options for their consoles.

In the long run, on-disc DLC that's not finished is better.

Lmao @ the retarded back and forth banter in those threads...wow.
It's things like that that make me understand why Lady Box thinks the FGC is comprised entirely of over-the-top weirdos.

I'll pick up BlazBlue before I blow unnecessary funds on this, for sure.

better for who? certainly not the consumer. the fact of the matter is a game should not even be released unfinished. if there are unfinished characters, the game is unfinished. finish the game before release. if that is impossible, give the consumer the characters for free when they are complete.
by now the consumer has been conditioned to not only expect DLC but to want DLC. that is capitalism at its most obvious. sell incomplete game at full price, charge consumer for "additional" content later. in this case its charge to unlock content already on the disc.

if you dont want to contribute money to capcom buy the game pre owned where the store gets 100% profit.

Capcom planned on making money off of DLC, as THTB puts it, do you want to pay $5 or $10 for a character? Release date would be the same either way, but I'm pretty sure people rather pay $5 so that's why it's on the disc!

I'm not arguing the pricing, I'm just kinda taken aback at the fact that they have at least 12 characters completely finished and ready to go but are just locking them down and forcing you to pay for them. It's like they finished the game then set aside a few of the finished characters for DLC and called it a day.

Almost as bad as what Bioware is doing with Mass Effect 3.

Precisely why I haven't bought a single Capcom fighting game since Tatsunoko v.s. Capcom(didn't buy any of the SF4 interations), I'm not going to support said practices by buying their content and if enough people did as such and complained they'd stop this practice immediately. Other companies most likely WILL follow suit if this practice proves effective and profitable, which is the part I'm worried about the most.

I remember being weary of DLC when the concept was first brought up...I have no problem with DLC that makes sense and comes out much later after a game's release. DLC has become disgraceful, companies charging money for different COLORS(of the same costume) and difficulty settings....are you out of your mind? What might have originally been a good idea has become shady and questionable in my eyes.

My attitude has always been this: If the original game minus DLC isn't going to hold your attention, any type of DLC won't either. I also miss the days when games never got DLC, yet were still played for years to come.

Nowadays games are bought and sold almost as quickly as they were purchased.

If I played the game I would be pretty upset too, but it's a business unfortunately. I didn't know it was 12, damn that's a lot! Though only 2 or something.

So F capcom haha.

They have 14 DLC characters on the disk that are completely done and there not selling them for 6 FUCKING MONTHS.

They also have a bunch of DLC gems, and several sets of DLC costumes for every character on the disk.

Now apparently they also have DLC auto combos, this doesn't really effect gameplay in anyway since its just for scrubs, but its still beyond silly that they have the balls to charge for this.

The online works well but has some weird rollback netcode with completely bugged sound that straight up gives me a headache.

The xbox version has a key feature completely missing for some insane reason, and capcom straight up lied about why, even though everyone proved them wrong because MK9 and halo and CoD all did the same thing and worked well.

All that said, the game is really good and has more then enough content to warrant 60$. So it puts me in a weird place, as a Fighting game fan I want to support good games, but as a gamer overall who wants whats best for my hobby its very hard to support this kinda of shit.

Also I feel weird about shitting on a capcom game on a MK website, makes me feel dirty and fanboyish.

Wow you guys will have to wait 6 months for the DLC...I can feel the outrage now haha. Maybe Capcom will just rethink things and in 2-3 months release it all for a certain fee.

I don't think its finished. I saw Cody gameplay..his handcuffs go through his wrists, it looks like ps1 physics. On the dlc being on the disc, it makes it so not only do you not have to wait longer for larger files to download(not all of us have access to 5000 mb/s internet speeds), and the game will still be compatible with people that didn't buy it.

Capcom made a deal with sony so that the playstation vita version gets the 12 characters first, but the vita version doesn't come out until this fall, probably around September. So yeah, shit sucks for everyone.

I've never been crazy about DLC.

Y'know what I miss? Whatever happened to unlocking characters by beating/unlocking shit in the game?
3D MK and the Krypt? Cyber-Smoke? That kind of shit. Sneaky cheats and skillful victories.
I remember half the fun of DA and Deception was going through the gamut to open everyone up.
Now they put a price tag on it.

To me...It's not the tactic that's most surprising, it's the amount of characters being held hostage.
A dozen+ fucking characters AND their extras? Half a year away? Reeeeeeally?
Can you imagine if this had happened with MK?
People would've been shitting babies.
Literal, squishy, aggrivated babies.
And the trolls of SRK would've had a fucking field day.
Possibly a field week.
A field fucking fortnight the way they like to banter sometimes.

Damn.
(You only get one A, Capcom. You don't deserve my A's.)

Capcom mentions that the characters being on the disc was to make it easier for the people that don't buy the DLC. That way the DLC characters work and can be used against people that didn't buy the DLC characters.

I don't understand. You all were there for the Comparability Packs. You experienced them first-hand! Can you imagine going through that fiasco fourteen times?

Ok lets get some facts down first

1) on disc dlc is common in almost everygame. Dead space 2, saints row 3, mw3, mw2, black ops, bf3, ass creed, mk9, dragon age 2, mass effect 3, mass effect 2, pokemon, final fantasy 13-2, soul calibur 5 etc etc.

2) how dlc works in the gaming industry works like this. The retail game gets budgeted first then dlc get budgeted afterward. The whole plan and majority (if not all) of the creation is made before the game goes gold. The reason is 1) its cheaper for the publisher, 2) its cheaper for the developer and 3) so the development team can start on a new project.

3) The characters are missing some files, although it is very small (voices in cutscene and etc).

I mean if the 12 dlc characters didn't even exist, would anybody call SFxT roster small? or call it an incomplete game? No. Before the dlc model even exist character probably would not have been made and if they did it was an addon "super" version of the game.

Is this a shitty practice? In my opinion yes. But it is the reality of all gaming. You either accept it or don't game. That is that.

ps
Just to play the devil's advocate. Does anybody not remember Skarlet model being in the game and could be hacked in? Yes it wasn't 100% working in the game, but a good portion of it was.

the thing is, you dont go online and play with random people.

*random people suck skill wise, you will develope bad habits.

*random people suck internet wise [HURR DURR MUMS ON THE LAPTOP SISTER IS ON YOUTUBE AND MY TRANNY PORN WONT DOWNLOAD ITSELF!]

*if the person you are playing doesn't have the compat packs its safe to say they are not really into the game and not worth playing, the compat packs are free, they are only a few MB/minutes of your time [even in Australia with our notoriously bad internet and capped quotas], there is no excuse not to have them if you are a person even half dedicated to the game you will get them.

*most importantly, compatability packs are free and were not included on the disc [hence komplete edition], these characters are finished before release and you must pay to play the full game even though you have bought the full game. you are paying twice for a product that is already complete on the disc. you are paying again to simply unlock content that is already on the disc.

do you see why now?

Capcom mentions that the characters being on the disc was to make it easier for the people that don't buy the DLC. That way the DLC characters work and can be used against people that didn't buy the DLC characters.
but they are on the disc man. why would we buy them? we already bought them. we are paying to unlock them. theres no reason to buy them.

1, i agree, yes it is common, why dont we talk about it here? because those games are not MK, and 12 of the games you listed are not fighting games. so everyone is doing it. that does not make it right. its abusing the consumer.

2, yes it is cheaper for the publisher, yes its cheaper for the developer, no it is not cheaper for you, the person buying it.

3, at the very least they should offer a small patch for free, if it is true they are missing some small files [i dont doubt you]

about skarlet - yes it was the same situation. it still doesnt make it right. people were angry when they found that out.

1) first point doesn't matter. If you bought a character you should have the ability to use that character whenever you want. Online or offline.

2) There are a lot of people that play the game regularly that don't have the compatibility packs. They have their excuse at the same time they are still playing against others who want to use their character they bought. Does it matter if they are "worth" playing or not? That is so subjective and isn't fact. Justin Wong doesn't have the compatibility pack, does that mean he isn't worth playing?

3) You are not paying twice for the same product. You are paying for 38 characters as advertise. They don't "owe" you anything past what the product was advertised. This is business 101. It was widely known that these 12 characters were dlc. Does it matter whether it was on disc or not? If you accepted they were dlc, that means you accepted that you had to pay for them.

Again this isn't just capcom, this is just the nature of DLC in the current game industry. You either accept it or you don't play games.

Developers like money, whats new? Would it bother you less if they worked on the DLC after the game was released even if the release dates were the same as they are now? at least now the download time will be significantly shorter.
