Bottom 5 Character Project

I certainly don't see Kano as not having bad matchups, but I definitely don't think he's an awful character. By all means, he's actually good. I just don't think he has that many great matchups. But tbh, for me, bottom 5 isn't really horrible characters, but rather characters who just aren't as good as whoever is above them.

ok so i did some thinking about this bottom 5, i really cant properly come up with a "bottom 5". however i can think of 5 characters that i feel should get one slight buff.

so i guess my bottom 5 are

Stryker ~ needs a mid range bomb, have it be spammable. remove his high in the air bomb.
Noob ~ teleport needs armor added
Kano ~ b+2 needs to be safer on block
sindel ~ needs a faster frame attack or a armor special like cartwheel.
Quan Chi ~ rune needs to be a wake up attack..

As much as I like Scorpion atm, Sub Zero needs to show some fools how the grandmaster gets it done. He goes even or above with everyone but KL, Kabal, Kitana, and Mileena, and some people say Kenshi but I don't know, I'll take their word for it, best one I ever fought I went 6-4 with. Please, enlighten me as to why he is worse than Sindel, Noob, Rain, Jade, Cyber Sub Zero, Stryker, Kano, Nightwolf, Baraka, and Sheeva. That's 10 characters he is easily above.... Not to mention specific characters that are viewed as "high" that can't get in on him at his best, or some top tier characters that break even. Or characters you could argue are worse then him. According to any Sub Zero I respect or acknowledge, KL is his only un-winnable fight.

There are 31 MK9 characters right now that are tournament legal. Sub Zero breaks even or bests all but 5-7, depending on who you are talk to. 31-5=26. 31-7=24. Sub Zero is mid way in the twenties, competitively, meaning he is still among the ranks of other VERY solid characters whose tier positions are in no real order and vary due to how the player makes use of the tools presented. That does NOT translate to bottom 5. The only reason people hate on him is he gets blown up, as far as we know, by quick instant air projectiles. However, this is from the same community that at one point thought Smoke was mid-low tier and is now saying he is top 5.

My point is this, this game is still growing. We don't actually know a whole lot about it yet if the past is anything to judge by. Furthermore, kindergarten math states Sub Zero is not bottom 5 material. Sorry guys, stop bitching about how much harder you had to work for your wins than "____."

I look forward to the incoming arguments, and I hope to either be shown the error of my ways or educate you in yours.

yes but I'd like to be able to b2 then follow up with f3 or another b2 if they are expecting the normal block string after b2. So that he'd actually have some type of mixup. Idk I just don't like how b2 by itself is.

I mean, I get what you're saying, but Scorp's b2 is worse imo. Kano's b2 is at least safe on block, Scorp's isn't. Granted Scorp's leads to substantially more damage but still, a lot can be said for a safe mixup.

You could theoretically throw an EX knife in there on block to receive block advantage as well. Kano really has no use of meter outside of breakers and his xray. I think what hurts him the most is that EX horizontal ball has armor in the starting frames, but the likelihood of anyone actually pulling it off consistently is pretty dismal, I've spent a good hour in the past just trying to get the damn thing to come out consistently, I can't do it. I feel that's Kano's greatest weakness.

I'd like to hear I$AAC 's thoughts on the matter though. I believe that JT Circus is coming back as well, which I'm looking forward to. He makes good use of the choke frametraps.

IMO:

kano's F3 should be faster, you can end his B2 string into choke

Stryker needs a overhead normal and a mid hitting projectile

quan needs nothing unless they fix him

Sindel's normals need to be a little faster and a D1 that isn't absolute trash

i would like noob's portals to come out faster, his lack of speed would be fine if his zoning was better

Still don't see why Kano is bottom 5. If he has no bad match-ups how can he be bottom 5? His knife toss is one of the best projectiles in the game so he can zone pretty decently against most character. His mid range game is decent with his f3 and he's got a good pressure game when he's in. Throw in a good x-ray, reliable anti-air, good throw, a good 50/50 that most characters don't have, and good wake-up attack and I fail to see how he falls in the bottom 5. He has no weakness.

I can list glaring weaknesses for Jade, Baraka, Nightwolf, Striker and the Sub Zero's. They clearly deserve to be near the bottom in my eyes.

I would not include Kano in my buttom 5 list either, but this characters is definitely not good. Knife toss is not one of the best projectiles in the game. It has not been since two patches ago. Kabal's iaGBs, Freddy's glove and spikes, Sinde's iaF and low fireball, and even Noob's tackle and slide are all better projectiles. Up ball has been slowed down by a couple of frames, which seems insignificant but in fact makes a big difference. The old ball blew through any string and was very rarely ever out-prioritized by jumping attacks. The story is different now. At this point, I would prefer Cage's or Jax's 1, Kitana's 2, etc. as AA. Up ball is still effective vs Kung Lao and Raiden, though.

As far as bad match ups go, Kabal and Sub Zero are very difficult. Kano loses both match ups 7:3 in my opinion. Like Vulcan said, though, this character is not particularly bad at anything, but he is not particularly good at anything either.

Jade doesn't have anything that leads into reset situations.

Wrong. Jade can reset using B2 + most of her normals. 3 only consistently works in the corner. The only problem is that you have to throw away a lot of damage to do it whereas characters like Cage do not.

Jade is laughable.
Stryker has matchups where if you lose to him I think your probably just a low level retard.
Nightwolf is probably MKs worst character once you abuse him.
Scarlet maybe this character has yet to show its light to me.
Sonya can be zoned out fairly easily.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of skewing the vote to downplay the fact he's tied for second with Kitana.

Reptile and Sektor are the only characters that got votes due to letting everyone vote in the bottom five though.
Otherwise they would have been completely forgotten in counted votes.
I'm sure someone voted Reptile in top 5 who wasn't good enough for M2K.
If he got one vote in top five, that'd make him 13 right there.

it's because seems that NRS gave not a shit about modelling both Kitana and Jade with masks off .... maybe lack of attention of just bad taste to decide physical traces design, or just, last minute work .... who knows ?

I think maybe they gonna do a better job in next game, if, by chance, Kitana and Jade might be there ....

Sindel is the sexiest in MK9, in my opinion. She is both hot in facial design and body, the ultimate evil MILF, hehe
