What's new

Let's start a petition to patch the training mode

This is what I don't understand, from my understanding WB was very lenient with them, they wanted them to put out a quality product. Yes, I can understand the desire to get it out for EVO but why not wait another year? I'm trying not to think "Oh, well it was all about the money, and manipulating competitive players" but it's hard not to think that.

Again, I would really like some actual clarification by a single team member on the subject. If they're intending on making a UMK9 then cool, but I'd like to know.
WB would have been cool with the delay, but EVO is just too good to pass up for a competitive game, waiting a year would have been bad, the game has the chance of running out of steam by then, and not releasing it for a year is not an option, WB is cool, but not THAT cool, and the game only really needed a few more months

Honestly it probably was a rock and hard place scenario.

I say let them concentrate on a netcode fix that actually works and on balancing the game first before they get to work on training mode. You could have the best training mode thats ever been but without finished characters and the ability to take them online (which most people do) then it's useless really.

I think the netcode is as good as it's going to get - outside of using GGPO. We compare the game to SF far too much, but the reality is, SF doesn't have strict inputs that MK does. I still state that advanced Reptile isn't feasible online due to the NJP. I and the majority of the community think of online as essentially basic practice; it isn't taken seriously.

Offline however I enjoy, I don't NEED to play other players to understand their BNBs and tactics. If I could just record scenarios and practice overcoming them. There's plenty of character combo threads, videos, etc.

I really hope the netcode is not as good as it's going to get because i want to see this game stick around for a while but with the constant de-syncs and other bugs i just can't see people clutching at straws hoping it will get better, they will ditch the game entirely.

Hades, these things can work. Daishi has said in interviews that the sole reason they are making SoulCalibur5 is because of a petition we made which pulled 70k signatures in under a week.

I recommend making it on FB as a fan page, because every "like" counts as a signature, and because it will get far more visibility there than just on gaming network sites. I also recommend making sure to disable email notifications of 'signs'. That shit has RUINED my gmail account.

Good luck.

On xbox at least the netcode is really good, the desync issues don't really have to do with the netcode it self, its just the DLC causing problems because there is to much data not working well wtih each other, because of all the stupid ass pre order bonuses and the DLC klassic kostumes.

Oh ok thats good news, maybe the de-sync issues will be fixed sooner rather than later.

An, in my opinion, big bug in the training mode:
Dummy set on Always Block fails to do so, makes people think some things are guaranteed which they aren't, and wrong information is worse than no information at all. Just look at the Smoke Bomb reset threads.
I still don't know how the new OTG Bomb really works because of that.

Benefits of a properly programmable dummy(programmable to perform attacks and so on)

1. You can train advantage/disadvantage, and punishment.

2. Less people complain about stuff like spam of moves they don't understand, because then they can learn how to deal with it.

3. A good training mode would also help discovering real imbalances/glitches.

4. You can improve your defense, by training to block low/mid strings and so on.

the netcode is a non-issue. people need to realize that without either using rollback coding (GGPO), which it is far too late for, or vastly improving america's internet infrastructure (which we are probably 10-15 years away from seeing)...online play is just going to suck. that is it. it can't be patched. it can't be fixed. it is an shall remain garbage. it is the same story for all fighting games.

what they NEED to focus on is command record/playback. with any luck it will be multi-tiered command playback. with this tool we could test and train against setups, mixups, A-A combos etc...

until we have that feature, they can tinker with netcode, character frames, skin compatibility, training bugs, DLC characters and whatever else they want...and it will still fail. looking to sitting with a training partner or playing online CANNOT be our only means of testing things if they want to see the game survive competitively for a long time. ignoring this feature is essentially giving the finger to all the potentially great players that love to sit at home, practice, and break down a game.

If you'd like to make any revisions to the petition, feel free to! I'm happy to update the FB page! The draft certainly isn't set in stone!

I hate training mode.

I have Wonder Chef learning Kabal right now to practice the match. I cant duplicate the Kabal string mix ups because for some reason Record literally... just records...

i'm pretty sure they looked at training mode menus on other fighting games and copied them...but completely missed the point lol. as if making our own collection of combo videos is more important than record playback. :/

sry m8 but do a petition 2 NRS 4 a thing that should be obvious?
its weird 4 me..

maybe NRS dont care so much about competition players?
here in germany 4 example ther is 90% fanboys ( they only talk all day how 2 beat goro n shao kahn :D)and 10% competitive player!!
interesant question here: how many % this is worldwide??

fanboys dont need a super good traning mode, that traing mode we have allready make a good job, 4 them.., just 2 check the specials something more thats it!
in my opinion, of course we need a traning mode like ssf4!

just my 2 cents

If they didn't care they wouldn't come to our evens, patch our game, fix our glitches and be active in the fighting game community.

I think its okay for the community to acknowledge problems that the game has, but I don't like it when people blatantly say NRS does not care. Its 100% false.

I don't think it's that they don't care, it's just that it's very frustrating when an invaluable tool was just thrown aside. I mean, they aimed to create a tournament level game, but didn't provide a functional trainer? Clearly they had scoped out their competition, did they just not care to learn WHY SSF4's trainer is good?

I don't understand that.

NRS do care, it's evident by what krayzie bone said but i get what your trying to say, like most of the people that play this game don't go into it with the intention of playing competitively like tourny players so would be quite quite happy if NRS concentrated more on fixing the online aspect which seems to be more down to bugs with the dlc packs and not the netcode. But i suppose trying to make the game more suitable for tournaments might give it more longevity and gain NRS respect and recognition.

through the effort they have steadily made, it is very obvious that NRS cares. their heart is completely in the right place...they are just going about it all wrong.

everybody needs to sign and share this on FB so that they know there is an issue!

as for competitive players worldwide, i'd say that it is more like 1% or less that actually learn the game and go out and compete or promote and assist events. this alone means that they are doing good by trying to cater to us.

lol. that is just funny. That line really made my day. For it to be a tourney worthy fighter, the training dummy is just too crucial. Instead, we get other ancillary stuff like Story Mode and Challenge Mode - which are a great wow on their own, but do very little for the competitive scene. It's just unacceptable.

Could you guys please put this on the front page? I'd really like to get the word out, the page hasn't gotten much attention in the past few days. If you guys could use your connection's to forward this to The Kombat Network/SRK I'd greatly appreciate it!

Let's get this out there!

edit: Also, I can't seem to to figure out how to use a hyperlink in the forums? I'd like to slap it to my sig. :p

Am I the only one who wants online friend vs friend training? It's so tedious teaching my new friends how to do certain combos over a mic.

Well, yes, that'd be nice. An actual tag trainer online really seems logical, considering that how're you supposed to practice tag combos without your tag partner? Also aggravates me that you can't play tag online with a friend. Pretty dumb move there.

Personally, I was looking forward to that feature. I have a lot of friends who aren't very good at fighters and I was hoping that'd help get them further into the game.
