I agree with Revolver that Lex isn't as bad as people are saying. Top? Hell no. Dark horse? Hell yes.

I am curious to see what this new lance tech is though

lance is trash but if you've found a legit use for it i look forward to your reveal.

No seriously it's more about using it as a tool with trait up. I also found a sick super situational combo involving lance charge that's going to blow peoples' minds if I actually pull it off in a tournament.

I want people to actually be exploring this character more... like no one even bothered to realize you can mb mine without meter because we didn't explore our options with it. Apparently there's an infinite too but I don't know if that has to do with this being patched out.

I've also realized how broken Lex can be with the pig, especially with trait up since you can't meter burn it... it's one of the few interactables you can combo off with mines. 50% combos into setup, or 45-46% + another 16% pig hit or another pig into mine.

I think this can be really good if you get to the pig against characters that dont have advancing wakeups. Trait up and throw a mine that will hit near the end of the pig's range. If you set it up right, pig into mine, dash up f2~vacuum mb, crossover j2, f2~far mine, pig again.

I tested it against joker. His best option if he can't backdash the pig is a wakeup gunshot, which still trades with the pig. If he doesn't tech roll, it hits him into the mine. There's a lot of setups I can see for this, this one's 45% to start+16% on the pig.

Trait after every corp charge you land- the exception being characters who can wakeup with a multi-hit which disables your shield and also hits you regularly afterwards (DeathStroke, also, Green Lantern's chain gun).

He has the farthest reaching Jump+Hard attack in the game, after every Jump+Hard you get a free corp-charge because it can be executed in the air. If people are trying to play the jumping game on me, I remind them no one beats Lex's jump 3.

I am awful at footsies with Lex- maybe it's just because I suck at it, or maybe it's because Lex is awfully slow, but I get shut down on that. Hopefully others can help with that.

Lex's closeup combos use meter-burn gravity-pull, but it's awfully unsafe. I never cancel into gravity pull unless I have a shield, and the opponent is vulnerable because he/she just tried ineffectively to hit me through the trait.

If the enemy is in the corner far from you, and you have your shield on, meter-burn your "target acquired" attack until you haven't a drop of meter left- after your last hit with it take advantage of the time you have to trait and dash, or whatever setup works for you. For some reason, I've been able to spam "target acquired" with meter burn on any cornered enemy (so long as I begin with my shield on) and have yet to see an enemy get out of this chain- I'm not sure if it is possible to or not, but I've yet to see someone get out of it once I've started. I do sometimes take wakeup ranged hits, but I'm able to keep spamming anyway.

Look at where you're posting, this is a place where people should share and discuss tech, whatever you have could be something someone has been missing in their approach to the character.

The dive charge from Lex's b2u3d3 reminds me alot of Thawk's condor dive. Do you guys think it would be a decent buff if they gave that to lex as a standalone move? It would at least allow him to mess with his jump arc.

lmao pretty much, hes not bad smh. He has some tough match ups but not a bad character. I do wanna stream so I can get my lex shit stolen, bust people ass online, and to show that hes not bad but twitch still didn't send me my new password :(

Never realized how flowchart-y Lex is.

Fought another Lex user(I couldn't believe it) and the first five moves were exactly the same, we even both picked Luthor's Lab as the stage.


Jump back 3, light interactable throw, probe toss, laser, mine toss.

All in near perfect unison.

He got me with a super though, so I lost the match.


Any of you have Lex mirrors?

Inspired by all this talk of "secret hidden Lex Luthor tech" I've probably logged about 5 hours in practice mode trying the most absurd tactics I could think of.

Couldn't find anything redeemable about the meter burn mine- I thought it was kinda ridiculous that using the meterburn to detonate the mine takes so many frames that it pretty much negates the fact that it launches them higher. I can't get any combos that work reliably with it at any distance.

As for the lance, I'm starting to use it more for situational purposes. The dash-cancel of the lance especially. Mine behind the enemy, and assuming I have attack prioritity, I charge up lance- they either respect it by blocking, in which case I dash cancel, pushing them into the mine; next scenario, they attempt a jump attack, in which case the second level of charge picks them out of the air.

I probably only get away with this because it matches me up with players of my average skill level. I'm going to work on the assumption that if they hold block and I try to dash cancel the lance blast in an attempt to push them in the mine, they can absolutely stuff me on the dash even with below average reaction time- given how slow that goddam dash is.

Also, I find it ridiculously annoying that if I throw a mine near the corner of a stage, and it goes slightly farther than the wall allows, the mine just poofs into nothing. Would be better if it just fell into the corner.

i would really appreciate a buff to mine, as you say it is fucked that it disappears in the corner, please allow far mine to 'fall' into the corner.

remove exploding meter burn mine and make MB function either 2 mines, or a longer duration mine.

allow lex to cancel d3 into mine like d2.

a man can dream :cool:
 
Looks like Lex got a hidden buff which helps him a lot. His jump is better now I notice it on the airplane stage that he can jump over everything freely now, also doomsday ex tackle easier, supermans straight lazer beam(he could jump it before but now he can do it with no real timing like a normal character). I am very happy with this buff cause if you guys remember thats all I asked for him to have anyway.

I completely agree, I don't understand how they cant see that EX mine is completely useless.

Doesn't extend combos, doesn't allow any follow-ups regular mines wouldn't, doesn't do anything worth-while.


I'd like it to be either two mines, a mine with a larger radius and extended time, or a mine that teleports the enemy to you in a stunned state(this one would be on hit, like the current EX mines).

So I finally actually looked at the in-game frame data for him after all this time playing him and noticed b1 is -1 on hit and +6 on block. It makes the b13 string have a weird mixup layer but I've been using b1 on its own to start pressure sometimes due to this.

I don't really have anything to add.


I have this noob-killer loop, after I catch someone with a mine I'll j.2, 22 xx close mine and repeat until they decide to block low, even then if they don't move immediately my next j.2 will overhead or cross-up and I get a free combo. If they're a little smart I'll throw out a medium range mine and catch them when they try to back up.

I also have this combo that isn't a true combo but it'll almost always work as long you aren't fighting someone with a teleport or a fast horizontal wake-up attack

J.2, 112 xx MB gravity pull, b+3, j.2, 22 xx (end of first half) MB laser(missle strike), j.3.

First part is 32%, second is 22%, a total of 54% with 2 bars.

Pretty basic, I really only use it if I'm feeling fancy an I have enough of a lead to show off a little.

I want that damn Kryptonite suit, it's like a better version of his already awesome Insurgency alt(why would anyone use the primary?).

Those challenges are super tedious and time consuming.

And I have a feeling he's gonna get a DLC costume that's super awesome and I won't use the kryptonite suit after that anyway.
 
Hey guys I just picked up Lex two days ago and I'm really enjoying him so far, albeit taking some hard losses in the process. I won't be able to play for another couple days and had some questions/observations.

I've been using D1 as my primary poking tool along with standing 3. I find his standing 3 to be really good maybe you guys have more insight about it but it seems to have even more range than Grundys standing 2, relatively fast, and on hit it sends them fullscreen so you can setup traps or trait.

I'm having trouble with his corner combos. After a B13 > grav mb > F3 what's the timing for hitting a J3 so you can link the two 11s afterwards?

It seems to me that Lexs worst matchups are against characters who can zone effectively since the startup on all his specials is horrendous. How do you guys handle the sinestro and deathstroke matchups?

Which is the better/more reliable punish D1 > grav pull or 22 > grav pull? I guess 112/113 > grav pull could have it's use as a punish also.

EDIT: All apologies to those who read my original mega-post. I've since learned a bunch from these threads and cleaned it up a tad.
