they shut down lucas arts and go to ea? fuck fuck fuck.... let the microtransactions begin
Disney isn't going to let a little thing like closing down LucasArts stop them from putting out new Star Wars video games. Today, Walt Disney Company announced via press release that they have signed an exclusive deal with EA to develop and publish new games from the Star Wars universe.
While that does not likely mean the games LucasArts was working on will see the light of day, it does mean new Star Wars games are on the way, and possibly sooner than we might expect (see: before 2015's Star Wars Episode VII). EA, in a joint announcement, specifed that they'll have games spanning "consoles, PCs, tablets, mobile and more," and divulged that in-house developers DICE and Visceral will develop new games in the Star Wars world using the Frostbite 3 engine, in addition to BioWare, who will continue their work there (following up on Knights of the Old Republic and the Old Republic MMO).
“This agreement demonstrates our commitment to creating quality game experiences that drive the popularity of the Star Wars franchise for years to come,” said John Pleasants, Co-President of Disney Interactive in the press release. “Collaborating with one of the world’s premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to our fans around the world.”
