What do I need to do differently?

I posted this in another thread for Hawkgirl combos, but feel like I might not get an answer for a good while and I am currently practicing with her and am eager to learn.

A combo someone posted:
(J2) 123 B3 J2 32MC 34% - 37%
(J2) 123 B3 J2 32B1 32% - 35%

So, J is for jump, but how do you know when to hit "2"? Is it right when you are jumping, or wait til you are coming down? When I try and do it, I jump too high and don't hit anything, and the couple of times I have made contact, it seems to just be a normal hit, doesn't have any kind of "bounce" to continue a combo off..?

I don't recall seeing what MC means in Villain's earlier post.
Jump in, wait until you are close enough but still in the air to hit your opponent with 2 then when you land continue the combo. I don't know what MC means but it could easily be a typo for MB meaning "Meter Burn". In which a move becomes more powerful or gives an option to add a bounce to further inflict damage on your opponent.

Playstyle. Let the character choose you. It worked wonders for me.....well...sort of. And Villain, you so mean! :p Really nice advice though, I like it and there's not much of anything to add to it.

Its one thing to consistently do a combo against a character that just stands there. Its another entirely to do so on an opponent that fights back. Its not just about the combos, its about figuring out a way to open your opponent up, make a good read, throw out that one poke that fucks the person's game up for a second. Cryptix921 start with the basics. Learn a short combo or two and perhaps some starters from the air/crossup as well. Then just try to defend your opponent's attacks and let them be the one to screw up before attempting a punish with one of your short combos. Its not just about attacking in this game, as there is so much more to it than that. I don't want to rail you with different uses of meter, just try and figure out a good EX move or two and perhaps incorporate them into your combos. After you've played with your short combos you can attempt some longer ones and really develop your game further with the other uses for meter. (armor bounce/overhead, pushblock, etc. )

Thanks, Phil.

I don't think it is meant to be MB because it is listed as a meterless combo >.< oh well hopefully someone in the thread can tell me.

If anyone has any more personal experience about switching from controller to stick, I would really like to hear it. I am starting to lean towards buying one.

I played SF on a 360 controller and did just fine. But since I play Vega (charge character) I figured a stick would benefit me more. I picked up a stick and honestly, was doing just as well. I believe it all comes down to what you "get good" with, the rest is just a mental placebo. Also, sticks may benefit charge characters more than QCF characters, and I do not notice many true charge characters in this game (Bane???). Go with what you are comfortable with.

The gist of your posts here... You will not go from zero to hero by just getting a stick. Still have to put in the time and trial by fire.

Oh absolutely, but just thought it might make a difference, and want to get some more insight. I haven't really met anyone that doesn't have a stick, or use one primarily >.< Fighting games are becoming the main thing I enjoy playing, so with that being the case I want to try and do whatever is going to allow me to do best. I have a competitive edge in me that drives me insane sometimes.

Don't get too down on yourself. While I consider myself good with MK9, I'm absolutely terrible at Injustice... right now. I've spent a lot of hours in training, but its hard to apply that in game.

But i know ill get better, and this is how. Like any game, you have to learn it. With fighting games especially, you have to put in the hours. You need to settle on a character and then start cramming in as much knowledge about the game as you can. You have to know what your opponent can do is what it comes down to really. Once you know that, you're doing a lot less throwing random shit out and thus surviving longer. Then this opens up baiting and mix ups to get you a win.

It will come in due time. We're not even a week old yet. For me, it's going to take a few months to get to a point I'd consider myself to be decent.

Grundy think you handsome!
My advice would be to pick a character you are most comfertable playing with, learn combos from their section on this forum. practice what to do in every situation so it can be second nature. Remember you can record what you want the enemy AI to do against you so you have experience. winning and losing online does not matter. worry about your own development as a fighter. when playing online if something frustrates you, look at it as an opportunity, to keep your brain stimulated in all areas that you might not normally deal with. so you can have an answer for it later.

If you are on xbox live you can add me my GT is: Jeffreys

I read page 1 but not 2 and 3 so I don't know if this was mentioned but if a problem you are having online is people button mashing or jump attacking (annoyed the hell out of me in mk9) then I would suggest learning an easy anti-air combo starter and practicing those combos against the AI a lot. For instance, using aquaman's d2 I think it is, learn to combo off of it to where you can do it every time on reaction. Then when you go online against random players who just keep rushing you just continue using your anti-air until they stay back a bit or you kill them lol. I don't know if this is your problem but as long as you aren't playing against a zoner, this strategy will work wonders on making you not panic and sticking to a gameplan until you can use more advanced gameplay strategies. Hope this helps
