I'm a old horror junkie, and this is the last time I give in to seeing a remake. I should have learned by now. After the remake of the remake of The Thing I should have just stopped. There's been so many times where I told myself to stop seeing these remakes. No more.

Gore and barf were good. That's it IMO.

LEAVE OLD HORROR MOVIES ALONE.
you do realize that sam raimi and bruce campbell were involved with the movie. This movie is beyond faithful to the original.. some people will just never be happy.. it won't matter .

Of course I realize that. What does that mean? I have to like it?

I will say at least the gore was better than most remakes. I was happy about that. I would of honestly enjoyed it if it wasn't trying to be a remake of Evil Dead. The "remake" thing is what annoys me. I'm an elitist when it comes to old horror/sci-fi.

of course you don't have to love it. If it was so different then the original though people would be screaming about how it's not close enough. It's a lose ,lose situation.

I liked the remake of the remake of the thing actually.

I understand. The real shame in these remakes is the people that go see it and have no idea about the originals and don't pick up on the nods to the OG. There were quite a few nods in this.

very true or might not get the humor ... you don't see alot of comedy in horror movies. I loved drag me to hell but alot of people thought it was dumb. It has that 80's campyness. The biggest downfall for me on the evil dead remake was the cliche lines. I get why they did it but i didn't think anyone was that good of an actor besides the main girl when she was creepy.

the remake is better then the original in my opinion. I like you only saw the original recently and thought it was laughable.
either way i just didnt care for it

people made it out to be like if it was the best thing ever and it wasnt

when it comes to horror i consider nightmare on elm street 1 and 3 real horror also the remake of that was utter shit.

if there is one movie i cant watch its poltergeist not because i dont like it wich i do but that film scares the shit out of me even at 28 years old.

I haven't saw this movie yet, but honestly I don't count the original evil dead as part of the series. Evil Dead 2 is like a better remake of the first and then there is good ole army of darkness. But honestly what did you guys expect? Have you ever watched a Sam Rami horror movie before? Lol. It is supposed to be campy with cheesy one liners and such, that is if they are trying to hold true to the original. When I go to watch this movie, I am expecting the characters to say corny shit, lots (and I mean like fountains and torrents) of blood and a so so story. If you expected anything more than well idk what to tell you.

Haven't seen it yet but I am a huge fan of the originals as well. I stopped watching remakes a long time ago. The last remake I saw was Black X mas and vowed never to see any more again after they butchered one of the best slashers of all time. I just have one question about the remake though, is the classic in it? If Sam Raimi was involved with the production I'm sure that 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 made a cameo somewhere lol.

yes it is in it. sam raimi and bruce campbell produce it. theirs a bruce campbell cameo after the credits as well.

What did you guys think of Evil Dead? As a huge fan of the first three movies, I was pretty excited to go see this one.

I will get my negative rant out of the way first. The movie was enjoyable until the girl came back to life which personally turned me off very much. Aside from that distasteful direction, it did have some other quirks I disliked. Why the heck would they kill the character who was supposed to portray Ash? You're telling me some junkie teenager was THE CHOSEN one to defeat the demon? Terrible. The guy who played Ash was pretty disappointing as well. It felt like they wanted to rush all three original movies into one which was a bade move. This movie could have been so much better if they didn't go through with some of the questionable decisions.

Now moving onto some of the positive from the film that I actually liked. I really appreciated the gore and some of the brutal scenes. I thought it was well done and definitely entertaining - almost amazing. The bathroom fight, nail gun and crowbar face-off, and the chainsaw blood fountain was kick ass. That's about all I found good about the movie.

4/10 overall.

I keep hearing the movie was terrible, it was just a gore fest and in recent hollywood movies it isn't a shock factor anymore and you're kind of desensitized to the gore.

Saw the first showing near me yesterday, loved it. IMO overall way better then the original in a lot of ways. There should be NO comedy in a horror movie, hence the name HORROR.

The only thing I was disappointed in was the rape scene, should have been worse, more detailed instead of the Hentai demon method...

Still, this movie isn't terrible if you compare it to most remakes which are terrible this one is not one of them..the acting is pretty good for a horror movie, the special effects are 100x better then the 81 version, it's far more scary and gory then the original and morbid. Very violent too.

Storyline overall is the same except for the Mia vs. Ash character, who essentially is the same kind of character(the ending would kind of hint at that)

As a bigtime horror fan, I'd give this movie a 9 out of 10 honestly. One reason for this is not only does it look far better then the original, no comedy which is key for "horror" film and most of all it didn't end stupid like "let's just kill everyone a la Cabin in the woods" style...

There's also no way in hell the remake was worse then 2 and 3...Army Of Darkness is the Bride Of Chucky/Seed Of Chucky of the ED films and no to be taken seriously. THIS movie however IS very serious...

The next big remake I look forward to in the genre is Child's Play out next year, but first Curse of Chucky comes later this year to DVD.
