Tournament Viable Characters for 2013

I think the MU is probably even. Smoke is at hella advantage when Kenshi doesn't have meter, and Kenshi has advantage when he does have meter... but has to use it really wisely since that is pretty much the only time he can trade. Regardless of what numbers Smoke players or Kenshi players come up with, this is not a bad MU.
Very true. I can see it being 5-5. Definitely depends on meter.

Smoke slightly beats kenshi. Sure smoke can't shake the flurry but he doesn't have to. Just toss smoke bombs and smoke wins every trade unless kenshi uses a bar.

I'm glad ppl are finally seeing the light in the "6" bad mus kenshi supposedly has and seeing these bad mus becoming advantage lol

Maybe kabal/kenshi is even. Was Detroit right about that mu all along?

Yea but...y would u only do TF? Just dont do it. Its a lame game. But with that I think its 5-5 or 5.5-4.5. Depends heavily on who has meter and how they use it.

1. Keep posting even though you've never been to a tournament, when the topic is over tournament viable characters.

2. Profit?
So the only way to determine if a character is tournament viable is to participate in tournament yourself? Where I live doesn't allow me to participate in tournaments. Luckily, I'm not making any judgment about tournament players, since that would be stupid given that I don't participate in tournaments. I'm making judgement about some characters in the game, which you could assess by playing the game yourself, studying characters, watching high level players, etc...

So:

1- Use nonsensical logic

2- Profit?

This thread is specifically about characters that have made top 5 in a tournament in the past year. Unless Reptile has done that, the point is moot.

Reptile is a no brainer as being viable. He does as well as a character can ask for against Kabal. He also does well against most top tier.

Also PL's Raiden is absolutely amazing now. If you are not scared of the potential that Raiden has then I don't know about you.

Imagine any whiffed special or string into either a full combo punish, superman, or chip damage.

Kenshi just needs to get in position where he can either jump in or F3 and it will stop any good Smoke player from mindlessly tossing smoke bombs. Plus depending on the life bars, Smoke has to stop chucking bombs and worry about Kenshi's meter as soon as he gets it. Flurry is great in the MU because it prevents Smoke from just walking back whenever he wants to plus it builds a healthy amount of meter. IMO it is an extremely even MU, but I used to share your opinion that it was slight advantage Smoke.

Being able to handle one character doesn't make him viable.

Am i the only one that thinks Smoke is extremely overrated? What top characters does he even beat anyway?
No you are correct...in fact reptile has a better chance than Smoke. Smokes a fish and gimmick character. Why do you think everyone has pretty much quit on smoke

Seapeople

This one's for you
And again, there aren't even that many Reptiles going to majors consistently to begin with. Whereas Kitana, Kung Lao, Cyrax, Cage, Kabal, and a number of other characters easily have enough great representatives attending majors on the regular. It makes a big difference on how you see viability.
There's a bunch of Reptile's who have been to recent majors. People like Joker, Chongo, Cossner, Nubcakes, and probably a few others have attended fairly recent tourneys. Guys like Showtime, MIT and Han are arguably considered some of the best Reptile players but they rarely even use him.

It's just that there are several other characters who are easier to use successfully/more tournament viable. He's a hard character to master and use to his full potential imo. But at his full potential I still see Reptile as a top 9-13ish character.

Okay, didn't MIT make top 5 at EVO? I'm pretty sure Reptile was his main, and he busted out Scorpion on Detroit (and I think he used Scorp in the first match against Jr. as well).

He also used him to beat Forever King in their final match...

Lol Smoke isnt a fish. Let's not put him on the same level as Sub and Jade.

Why can't we put him in with Sub? Denzel got 2nd using pretty much all sub zero at MLG and even beat PLs Lao with sub zero....something no smoke player could do not because of skill but because of how much of a fish smoke can be.

Actually he did at EVO. But because of unforeseen circumstances that isnt fair to compare. F0xy says a lot of stuff many Rain players already do. Ive played a Rain main for about a year and have seen him do many things foxy describes. Don't get me wrong, f0xy has good points but he acts like he is god's gift to the community, so people tend to be pushed away by that.

The truth is Rain RH fishing doesnt always work. If someone gets me with 4 I immediately blade spin, if they full combo me fine(especially if I have breaker), if they dont I get out. Then if he tries it again I can block it and blade spin. Many characters can do this same thing. You just can't sit there and take RH cancels all day, otherwise you give him meter and chip.

Rain isnt bad by any means, but he is definitely not as good as f0xy claims.
yeah but thats not foxy's rain. and i dont think foxy ever said he was THAT good. i dont remember him calling him top 5 or anything. but rain is probably better than most people think.
