Tekken Tag Tournament 2 General Discussion

I played that Xiaishit/Miharu player again this weekend. Those 2 and the capos are seriously testing my mental fortitude. One of my regular sparring partners told me it's just a matter of getting used to their bullshit, I know this, but for me they just ruin the game. It's not fun/rewarding at all to have to desperately use only a handful of low to the ground mids and lows. Even if you whiff punish the capos for something with a mid launcher u get reduced damage and no launch at all, while they can launch you while laying on their ass from half a screen away. I am seriously contemplating about refusing to play vs Ling/Capos at all. If there is nobody playing those 5 at offline tourneys then I will definitely not learn these match ups. They have too much canned bullshit setups and evasive properties in comparison to the rest of the cast and they should be removed from the game. If I get to play this MU offline then I will learn it but otherwise it just takes too much time to figure out their bullshit when they can just fall back to one of their canned BS setups to steal the match with a TA even after getting floated and punished multiple times. It takes no fundamentals or ability to read your opponent or any skill what so ever to play these fkn POS mid-crushing fluke launcher characters. Yes, I am hella salty, cuz I find it hard to accept the fact that a game as good and balanced as TTT2 has a handful of absolutely retarded characters.
i hear ya

but .... i mean.... for every mid crush they have..... Lars has a wall carry combo with someone from midscreen that does 80%.

But yeah... they really are no fun to fight at all.

Dont know about Ling/miharu really but you have to punish her launchers and i think poking her will get her out of stance so take some frame advantage/setup instead of a full combo punish and she wont be able to get going. Also she has little arms so whiff punish her all the time.

Capos- you played my offline buddys capo when we did 2p online the other day, and he doesnt know what he is doing atall, just rams all the buttons on the controller as fast and brutally as possible (its fucking painful to watch him do it especially when hes using my pads). All you need to do when fighting capos is learn where to hopkick tbh, go fight the AI set as eddy/christie/tiger and just let them come at you until you recognise which strings are canned and which ones are stance cancels, alot of the time you can just hopkick the lows or poke him if you see cancel to handstand/lay down. I have no knowlege on the matchup, just experience and guesswork from playing him, but i recognise strings and blow them up.

"he doesnt know what he is doing atall, just rams all the buttons on the controller as fast and brutally as possible"

Exactly my point. I fkn lost to that.

One time vs that Ling player I saw a move whiff within ewgf range, so I did an electric, she was still able to spin sideways after it, made the ewgf whiff and launched me...

Where is my Bruce clone? If people can mash buttons and pull off random shit with retarded clones, I should be able to b2 them until they die.

Could Yoshimitsu players tell me all their Flash/1+4 setups? I'd really appreciate it.

EDIT: Stuff like f2 on block into flash

Crathen STRYKIE @~NAKM~
Flash has two frame rates. When Yoshi's in NSS, Flash is 9 frames which is slower than normal flash but it has a bigger hitbox. Normal flash is 7 frames but its hitbox is smaller. You can easily see this by going into practice mode and simply dashing forward and inputting flash in NSS and normal stance.

As for setups, you have to anticipate your opponent's moves after they block whatever you throw out. Flash is hop kick punishable on whiff so keep that in mind. A typical tactic is using Flash after your opponent blocks Yoshi's U/F+4. This setup worked well back in the T5DR days, but it's not completely reliable in TTT2.

Me personally, Flash in TTT2 is much better off used to interrupt your opponent's block strings and trust me, there are PLENTY of strings that Flash can easily interrupt as well as certain hop kicks. I'll provide a URL to TZ's Yoshi thread where there's a list of strings of the cast that Flash can interrupt.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Hey, I have a tournament tomorrow. My team is Zafina in front with Kunimitsu second. Any one got any dirty gimmicks or tricks I can use?

Hmm, I don't know much about Zafina and Kuni honestly. I pretty sure Skkra knows something, since he uses Zafina a lot. In fact, here is a past quote of his on her info:

Playstyle:
Zafina has one of the best backdashes in the game. She is generally pretty unsafe and has shitty frame data overall. Her moveset is crafted around strings with delayable hits a lot of the time, you'll see. For instance, d/f+1,2,1. The d/f+1 by itself is a safe poke. d/f+1,2 is a natural combo but is punishable on block. However, the third 1 in the string, while unsafe, is delayable and will catch anyone trying to punish the 2.

Standard solo juggle:
d/f+2, d/f+1, d/f+1, f+2,3 (into SCR) SCR 3+4 B! d/f+4,1

Standard wall beatdown:
d/f+1,2,1 will all hit

Standard solid TA juggle: (note that on the f+2,3~b do you NOT go into SCR stance)
d/f+2, d/f+1, f+2,3~b, 1+2 B! [have Raven do some TA filler that sends them flying high into the air] run up and 2,1,3
note here: the 2,1 will slam them into the ground, where the 3 will hit. The opponent can crash after the 2,1 but the 3 WILL always still hit the character before they get away, its guaranteed.

TA fillers vary. d/f+1+2 is pretty good to pop someone back up
Hope it helps :)

Sorry I'm late to the party. I have barely touched any games since NEC, basically. I'll be at Winter Brawl for fun to see everyone though, if anyone is going. DanCock?

If people are having trouble with Capos or Ling, you just need to play more. Those characters have been around since forever, and they've only gotten more stances and more moves every game. If you haven't been a serious Tekken player up until now, and put in many many hours fighting against them, playing a good player can be brutal. Their stances are evasive, their movement options are superb.

But they're still just another character. Everyone has moves to deal with them in their stances, and there are ways to punish their BS. They're just not very straightforward characters to fight against, and because of their sheer number of options, it can be harrowing learning to fight them.

I need tons of help. I played yesterday finally after a super super super long lay off and got smacked around by Blackula so yea I need practice. I actually signed up for ttt2 at WB because you said they were allowing button mapping.

Bruce's d3,4 makes some non-tag bufferable launchers like CH launchers tag bufferable. Just raw tag Bruce in after a launch and do a d3,4 and it will be a true combo and take away red life.

Dan, don't feel too bad. The last time I played TTT2 was more or less at NEC! So I'm going to get completely killed. Haven't been keeping up, learning how to fight the other characters, etc, at all. I still don't know the moves for half the cast. Too busy in real life to play.

I was trying to grind out MK9 for like a week, and it was fun, but then real life beat me up yet again, so I haven't played that either! Hahaha but I'm coming for you in MK2, Dan.

Damn, I need to get back to tekken. College work is tough, but I'll try to make myself availible on Friday's if I can. My connection though has been acting up, so I can't even host sessions. Really sucks :(

It's so hard to find time sometimes. Totally blows. I always mean to play, then the day is just over.

Get out of work at 6 PM, by the time I get home, make and eat dinner, hang with my fiance, maybe hit a bar with some friends, then I get home and think, OK, sweet, let's practice some Ermac... oh wait, it's 11:30, I have to go to pass out.

If my Reptile can take more than 1/20 games in MK2 off of DanCock this tournament, though, I'll consider it a huge success.

So I have this on ps3 now. I really just need MU experience. I feel pretty good about knowing my characters at a casual level right now.

I really struggle against Lili and turtle type playstyles.

I seriously need to get back into this game. It's just that with so few people here playing it, the crappy TZ forums, and the crappy Tekken community all my motivation is lost. Truth be told, the only reason I keep playing MK is because the community is awesome.

The Kings' running 2+4 throw has ridiculous priority, I've lost count how many times I have been grabbed out of fast moves with gigantic hitboxes like Bryan's mach breaker/fF2. Sometimes you can just run up and throw em', unless they get happy with high crush moves.

I'm not good at judging the run/grab distance yet. I have started doing this more though. Glad i'm not totally wrong on my strats.
