Back to block

You can't cancel a dash now -- but if you hold back in the middle of a dash, and an attack connects with you, will you block it?
If you are hit in the middle of your dash animation then yes..i can bet you are getting hit. They are going to treat dashes like a move itself..You wont be able to do anything until you recover from it..

Dashing might vary from character to character. Makoto in SSF IV can practically cross the screen in 2 or 3 dashes (to compensate for her ridiculously slow walk).

Ok; so my question is: with dashblock being one of the only viable ways of getting in on some characters in MK9, how does the lack of blocking in mid-dash/jump affect the anti zoning game in Injustice?

This is only speculation but many videos I have seen have fast and long dashes. You also have air dashes(Like a safer and faster way of jumping, with some characters at least)

Its gonna affect it heavily honestly. Walking or Jumping are our options. And that's why I believe character walkspeed is going to play a big part in this game against zoners..

I think the real question is do we have to take the chip or can we still neutral duck projectiles..

In 2d games, the block button is a worse design than back because it gives away your intent ( I say 2d because guard button works in a 3d game like VF where you have more movement options). .
I think we're just not open minded enough to expand on what a block button can do.

while holding block we should have access to more buttons. I mean while blocking the only options you have is up and down right?

why can't we expand that like in Super Smash Brothers Melee?

They can aim their shield forward and back, to increase lag time between air to ground. They can light shield which adds more shield stun, but covers more of your body and lets you slide away but you can't counter attack.

In a game like marvel/SF if back is the only way to block, then all of your buttons must remain the same for the same purpose. But a block button opens up the map on your controller and you could go super in-depth. It's just Netherrealm hasn't bothered to try it yet.

Another thing is. If you want Crossups with the block buttons. why not make L2. Block left, and R2, block right? that way you have to swap blocks when they cross up. But it still leaves your controller open mapped for other cool things you could influence on your defense while blocking.

like in my smash bro's example.

On the bare-bones for what we have to buy, you're right.

But don't sleep on block button potential.

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
I love back to block because mixups get way deeper. Way WAY DEEPER. Plus its ridiculously easy to do on reactions. Just give it a chance. There is a reason most every other game uses it. Lows, and highs suddenly matter so pressure characters have mixups and guys with slow projectiles have tricks. Crossups become amazing tools and things like Sinestro or Aquaman's low projectiles (like Shang Tsung's fireball) become really incredible tools for full screen pressure.
