I feel like Sonya's only possible bad matchups are against zoners. To me, she has and advantadge over all of her fellow rushdown chars, because she has the best zoning out of all the rushdown characters (only loses to Kang, but still beats him). I used to see Stryker and Kano as bad matches, but it was before I found out how good her rings actually are, she can trade with them if she gets and advantadge. Kenshi and Kabal are bad, Freddy seems bad by what Death said. I think Noob is, but I'm more inclined towards trusting Death's input in this. I'm only wondering about Sindel. She could be bad.

Overall, I think 3 bad matches is too much to be considered a top 5 character. Sonya is top 10 IMO. 7th or 8th in my list.

Master D., my cousin, has recently begun to use Sonya, and I have no doubt that Freddy vs Sonya is at the very best 6:4 in Freddy's favor. But honestly the way he plays the character the match up felt even sometimes.

There is no jumping vs Freddy, which you do too much. You have to dash forward and neutral crouch gloves, and if you jump early, you avoid blocking the Freddy fingers without eating a spike. Dealing with Freddy's keep away game is difficult for a character like Sonya, but when you play the match up thousands of times off-line, which Master D. has done, you understand how to approach Freddy in the safest manner possible. I think you just lack experience.

I have played Kenshi vs Sonya too, but I will reserve my opinion for a later time as I have just started learning Kenshi.

I am also convinced that Sonya is a top five character and the best female character in the game. What I found to be very powerful is the dive kick. If you play footsies vs Sonya, the player can neutral jump and punish your safest strings with the dive kick on reaction. I do not even want to imagine fighting this character without Freddy or Kenshi.

I think Mileena is the best female character in the game. I feel like she is complete. She has her bad matches, but no 3-7s IMO. She proves that you don't really need armor to be a great char in this game. I play the entire female cast in this game, and I feel like it's Mileena-Sonya-Kitana-Sindel-Sheeva-Jade.

My top 5 in this game, right now, is Kabal, Raiden, Kenshi, Jax and Cyrax.

Death, who do you feel that is a nice backup character for Sonya? I was thinking about Mileena, Sindel or Baraka, but then Kenshi screws me anyway (he is a counterpick to half the cast of the game IMO)

I think if you go by a match up chart, the following characters will have the most wins.

1. Kabal
2. Raiden
3. Sonya
4. Kenshi, Smoke (no particular order)
5. Cyrax, Freddy, Jax (no particular order)

I would say Sindel vs Sonya is even at least but it could be in either's favor. Sindel can control the match full screen but when Sonya is in it's so hard to escape for Sindel, I played this match up on both sides many times. Sonya has too many options getting in on Sindel like her armored Arc Kick, her D4, armored Cartwheel. Realistically I would call this 6-4 Sonya.

I've played xXBuryMeinBlackXx which is the best Freddy I've ever played online with Sonya. It's 5-5.

However, Kenshi and Kabal are both 4-6 that is just how it is but Kabal is her only true bad MU at the highest level no matter.

Offline I do want to say Smoke is a bad match up for Sonya but that's just my opinion.

For my experience I would call Sonya vs Freddy a 4-6. All I know is that she has at least 3 disavantadges: Freddy, Kabal and Kenshi, that is why characters like Kabal (1/2 bad matches), Raiden (1/2 bad matches) and Kenshi (probably 2 bad matches) place higher than her in my list. Jax has more bad MUs, I think, but he has a ridiculous comeback factor.

Also, Mileena is a good alt for Sonya. I agree with you there. It covers every MU in the game except Kenshi. Kenshi blows both sonya and Mileena up so I use KL for that MU.

I think when i look at the MUs i have Sonya for like 21 of them. Mileena for 8 of them and KL for 2 of them.

My opinion changed with F0xy's advice, Kenshi is not a pure 'bad' match up for Sonya. Sonya's only true bad match up is Kabal. I have no problem up close with Sonya locking a Kenshi but my trouble was full screen zoning Kenshi issues. I asked F0xy Grampa for advice and took it, played against online Kenshi players and an offline Kenshi player, it's 5-5 even. Same applies to Freddy Kreuger, I play with the best Freddy xXBuryMeinBlackXx player online and that match up is indeed 5-5. Kabal is 4-6 and even if Kabal may get nerfed his instant air gasballs, it will still be 4-6 regardless because of the tools he has against her.

I just don't see Kenshi and Freddy as 5-5, I'm sorry. That doesn't work and saying "it's like that online" really shows that online is just a poor judge of match-up numbers sometimes. Especially with the new breed of Kenshi. Notice, we're not talking about "some Random dude online" we're talking "played at highest possible level," and until you see Pig and Blackula play Kenshi and try playing Sonya against them....

Yeah after FR and MLG I realized Sonya loses to Freddy and Kenshi. After talking to Morty Riu48 and all the kenshi players they all agree its 6-4 in kenshis favor. Its a bad MU. REO finally came around and said it was Sonyas worst MU on the kombat stream last night. I was hesitant before when people said Sonya is top 3 but I do think Sonya is top 3 now. I think she for sure loses to Kabal Kenshi and Freddy but still winnable MUs just not even MUs.

Sonya based on match ups, yeah I know she is Top 5 guaranteed.

I need help with the Raiden matchup. Online, whenever I body someone, they switch to raiden and usually beat me. Tele gets him out of all my pressure so my rushdown isn't as good, and after tele I either have to block a b3 or I get crossed up and have to block that. Whenever I dive kick the tele, I either knock them out of the air, or my dive kick whiffs if they're still on the ground.

General strategies and specific raiden punishes would be appreciated.

Kenshi really does beat Sonya. Its worst than Kabal IMO. I just run this MU so much offline with the best Kenshi players out there. I thought maybe it was me but reached out to other sonya players such as RIU48 and Morty and they agree with it being terrible. REO did say once it was 5-5 but he came around and admitted in the kombat stream last thursday that its her worst MU as well.

I just dont know how to fight this character with Sonya. Online I do well vs Pig Teef Blackula when I use sonya but when I go to offline its real bad. Right now I use KL for Kenshi and beat all kenshis really bad with KL but I dont want to counter pick because I hate using KL. I want to learn it with Sonya but from right now its horrendous and I have no idea how to fight it.

To the people who think its not that bad how about you tell me why and how its not bad instead of just saying "oh its 5-5" and not really giving any reason why.

Instant Dive kicks punish the teleport very easily, its the best punisher for Raidens teleport in the entire game. Besides that all of Sonya's low pokes will stuff just about anything Raiden trys to do after a teleport.

Generally speaking the more aggressively you try to play against Raiden the worse youre going to do. Why? Because Raiden cannot be pressured, and Raiden cannot be zonned. The key is to make good reads, try to figure out when hes going to teleport and punish accordingly.

Once you have a significant life lead there is absolutely no reason to loose to him because he has to come to you, something Raiden never wants to do. Just sit back and play a reactionary game.

Huh? Sektor 6-4? why? I've played with some awsome sonyas and if she gets in, okay its hard to get of her pressure but you got a 6 frames jab and also a good low combo starter... I don't think it's that bad, also, you can zone her very well... if you launch the right misiles and mix them between in front of her, straight missiles and above... I think it is a 5-5... Why you say it is a 6-4?

Hey is there a list of characters that 312 hits completely mid on? I know it does on scorpion, lui kang, kenshi, freddy, rain, csz, shang, baraka, jade, sheeva, and I am pretty sure it hits raiden too. Although it is a little slow, its nice to have a completely mid hitting string, especially in corner pressure where its really easy to set up. if there isn't a list I can make one up and post it.

Ok Vagrant here is the list finally. Note that this is only point blank range, a step back and the string can whiff/be inconsistent. This isn't too much of a big deal though imo because of the way the string is used.
The 312 string hits these characters in crouch block.

So uh I played K.O.E_18 's Noob last night and uh damn....His shadow mixups were damn near unpredictable.. It was a huge struggle to get in and when I did, staying in was just as much of a pain in the ass.

How are you guys getting in on high level saibots?
