So last week I decided to take a break from the MK community and TYM. All the drama, brattyness, trolling, insults, and everything else in between really made me want to just vanish from the FGC altogether. Now, I'm still on that break, and probably won't be involved much on the forums until Injustice hits, but just wanted to voice my opinion on the state of the community right now.
First of all, I'm nobody. I'm no more important or "relevant" than anyone else. My opinion doesn't matter more than anyone else's. I made some rash decisions last week, and have made mistakes in the past few months. I would like to address why I wasn't at NEC for those that are not aware though.
Wednesday afternoon, my Dad was rushed to the hospital. I had no idea what was going on or what was wrong. All I knew is that he was vomiting constantly and urinating blood. I don't want to get into that though. Anyway, he stayed at the hospital until Friday. Wednesday-Thursday is when the actual plans for my ride to NEC were being made. But since my Dad was sick and in the hospital, I obviously wasn't going to leave the state with the possibility of something happening to my Father while I was away playing in a video game tournament. The "drama" that involved myself, Pig Of The Hut, Sawns and Bass isn't really drama that I was apart of. They were just upset I wasn't able to go, and blamed Pig for it. Pig obviously had no choice, and I shouldn't have been relying on him (or anyone for that matter) going anyway. It didn't matter, because Trepound found me an alternate ride anyway. But none of that mattered on top of that in the end, because of the issue with my Dad getting sick. He's at home and doing better now btw. Just wanted to apologize to everyone for any drama that came from this. I try my best to not be involved in drama in any way but it still finds a way to creep up on me. Also, say what you want about Sawns and Bass, but when someone offers to sponsor me, I'm not going to turn it down just because they may have a bad reputation or may not be liked. Them willing to help the community shows they're not all bad anyway.
Now, on to the actual issues. Everyone needs to please just drop the controversy dependent attitude. It's like no one can be happy unless there's some sort of argument or conflict in the community. I think we just used the it being just for hype as an excuse so often and so long, people took advantage of that and it no longer was about hype and it actually became personal. I've read and heard that some of us are just overreacting, which is easy to say if you're not on the side of being "attacked". Attacked may not be the best word but I just got through taking a final and I've been up for 26 hours and tired as hell, dem excuses. Why can't we get back to being nice to each other? I'm not talking about nice as in being bitches at tournaments or anything like that, I'm talking about the personal attacks and malicious intentions. I'm completely fine with trash talk as long as it stays within the game. The problem is, for some reason, we tend to let it get to us so we resort to personal attacks that hurt the most. We are playing a video game here guys, it shouldn't be that serious.
I did learn something this weekend though. The Marvel, SF, and Tekken stream monsters that always bash MK 24/7 on streams are still annoying and ignorant. I used to think we were so much different and way more respectful towards other games than those guys were, but I found out that isn't true. The same thing they do to MK9, I saw the exact same thing being done towards MK2 and UMK3. It's like there's some psychology behind if you play a certain game, and there's another less popular game getting any attention, it's like people think it's free and fair game to just bash it and the people that play it because their game has more support. I honestly used to just think people hated MK and our community, I learned though this thought process isn't exclusive. I mean, when you're saying "GET UMK3 OFF THE STREAM" when they're doing button checks for MK9, that just shows total lack of respect and just plain stupidity. I can't believe MK9 players who get so much shit from the other fighting game communities, would turn around and do the exact same thing to not only anyone else, but their own community game for that matter. A game that the MK9 tournament scene was built upon. A game that has lasted like 20+ years and is still played and still competitive. But, this isn't an MK community exclusive problem. The entire FGC does this to nearly every game and it's so fucking frustrating how disrespectful people can be.
Sorry, I'm ranting, and most people have probably stopped reading by now. I just wish everyone would take a deep breath and relax. Stop needlessly hating just to hate. Stop trying to instigate drama for pseudo hype that isn't even close to hype. It's dumbass drama that I thought was over after high school. Our community, despite not being as popular as others, should show we won't stoop to the level of others. We should lead by example and show the FGC how a real community behaves. I thought that was the direction we were heading, but we have definitely lost track of that mentality. If you want, just blame everything on me and lets move on. I'm tired of everything negative, it just isn't worth it anymore.
As I said, I won't be around much on the forums until Injustice hits. It sucks I'm not able to support the MK9 scene as much as I would like, I just don't have the time or the money to. School really takes up a lot of my time, and being broke obviously doesn't help. Then again I rarely play MK9 anyway, but what I really care about is the MK community as a whole.
With all this said, I hope at least a few people read this and agree with me. Or at the very least, understand where I'm coming from. I hold no grudges with anyone, and again, I apologize for any mistakes or poor judgments I have made. I hope our community stands strong and prevails, I know we are more than capable, it's just a matter of realizing that, and seeing it through.
