So, I'm using Kano right now in practice mode post-patch and he feels different. I feel like his movement in general has been sped up a little bit? Maybe I'm crazy but he feels foreign to me at the moment.

I do like the improvement to the upball and how much more versatility Kano has now due to F+3 functioning properly. I'll be using F+3 B+2 quite often now. Pretty happy with Kano right now!

Edit: Never mind, I think I am temporarily crazy. His F+4 followed by an upball works very nice now, as well.
The frame recovery on the upball is actually faster than Cage's flipkick...damn. You can use this to hop across the screen now as well if it suits you.

God damn, my best combo ji:fp, :l:fp:fp:bp, :r:r, :bp:fp:bp, ji:fk :en:r:d:l:u [Air] got a 1% damage reduction, it does 38% now D:

I guess that's the price for getting a better Up Ball and a Low string launcher now.

So, this doesn't make much sense to me.

F3 B2, 212 followed by an up ball does 26% (you can also end it with an uppercut for the same results)
F3 B2, 212, dash, 212, ball does 31%

That's a good deal of added effort for 5% more damage.

Pleas don't double post, it make pandas cry. D:

Kano always has been like that, low damage on short combos, medium damage on juggles, also, :bp:fp:bp juggles are the BnB links for bigger numbers, you must get used to the 3 different juggle timings that you get in :bp:fp:bp, :r:fk:l:bp and :l:fp:fp:bp if you want to main Kano.

I havent had much time to mess around much yet. In the corner u can 212, upball, 212, 212, up ball for 39% with no ji punch. So corner he will be able to squeeze out a bit more post patch in the corner.

Couple things I haven't seen anyone else mention...

The f3b2 combo timings have changed slightly post patch. I'm not sure if it's kicking them up higher or it's linking faster, but it's noticably changed the input timings. (These are combos I litterally have been training with eyes closed, so I don't think it's just a perception thing...)

f3 no longer crushes as hard as it used to. NOTE this may have nothing to do with the changes DIRECTLY but rather a consequence of the system at large (IE maybe highs just crush lows in general?...)

I'm sure I'll find more, that's just my impressions after the first couple of minutes of having the patch.

For my BnB I've been using launch, dash 212, then either:
-dash f1,2~ball(30%)_choke(29%)_knife)29%)
-dash j3~airthrow(28%)

I usually use the airthrow ender because I feel like it gives him the best wakes. No rollback option and you have time to dash~jump and crossup. Other than that you can use f+3/b+2 mixup, or I've been playing around with jump back to make wakes whiff then punish with airball. Having Xray available here limits their options too, as it will beat a lot of wakeups or if they get caught sleeping. It makes a lot of people jump back on wakeup which you can ball punish.

Generally I save my meter for Xray, as IMO aside from breaker he doesn't do much with it.

Thoughts?

I save my meter for the x-ray as well, it's too good. Once you've conditioned your opponent to block your balls, it's an invaluable tool. I can't tell you how many matches I've won with that x-ray, it's absolutely game breaking for a Kano player imo. I've found the best times to use it are when an opponent is getting up, once you're playing block games, on a wiffed ball which works to your advantage and playing wounded works quite well as well.

And in my experience, if you need to use a breaker, do it. It's easy to build meter with Kano by throwing knives.

am i the only one having trouble incorporating the air ball into a combo? it's just difficult to jump forward an do the all the directions in time. i usually end up using it when i jump back to bait a free hit.

Hey guys, happy to join the Kano family. What are things that I should know about my new character specifically that are very important when starting with Kano?

Minimal work in training mode yesterday supplied me with :bp:fp:bp x3 + up Blanka ball combo, but that's all I worked out aside from a few set-ups I came up with.

Don't be rude to the guy; he's new, wants some help

That said, learn your juggle starters. Kano's got an Overhead and a Low combo now, so be sure to mix it up. Big thing I'd say to practice is going straight from knife to Up Ball in the opposite direction; you can screw a lot of teleporters that way

Now that Tom Brady said Kano is s tier or however he put it there are more then likely gonna be a bunch of new people. We can rehash what we have been talking about since day one everytime someone asks or they can take the initiative and read the posts as to not clutter the thread with basic questions.

I think it's fair, people that put in the work to make this thread possible shouldn't have too hold hands of new Kano players.

Don't get me wrong I love to help out but as time goes on we are gonna see the same questions being asked regardless if it is the guide or not.

Right, so you link them and send the newbies on their merry way; you can't preemptively act annoyed when someone just jumps into the biggest topic around. That gives communities a bad name.

this! dude if you are really interested in a new favorite character then u read every little shit on here, and then if u still have questions, your welcome.

@Mutton: first of all i am not rude, its just the truth. u can find everything discovered so far with kano in here and with 82 posts he isnt new, he is just new to kano, but he should know how to get his info

To avoid drama I recommend directing new people to my Kano Guide thread, I compiled everything there, or at least I thing I did. :p

I'm glad that Brady realized Kano's potential, but it also sucks knowing that Kano is going to become far more popular. Horizontal and vertical balls are way too unsafe if the player is aware of how Kano is played, the up ball has become downright godly though. When I play with Jago I cannot risk sending a ball his way, he knows to block it on reaction and will punish me highly for it, it becomes far less of a viable tool with a skilled opponent. Kano's mixup game is still fantastic though, and his x-ray is also godlike. He deserves an S-tier ranking certainly, but I wish we could've kept him a secret! :D

TBH I just wish that the "recovery on whiff" of ALL balls was standardized to the way that airball recovers now (so airball would recover near instantaneously and be usable like CSZ's dive kick, horizontal would recover slighly faster due to height, and up ball would be the one with the most punishable frames) with all of the "recovery on blocks" for all balls set to the way upball used to recover on block prior to the changes. (which would be a speed up for horizontal and airball, but a slow down from upball as it is on live)

That said, there's nothing really wrong with the new changes. It's not like he's suddenly S+ tier putting everyone else in their places.. He's basically just become a solid ~top 7 character.

I still he think he's got a hard matchup versus Sub Zero, Shang Tsung, Noob, Apache Chief, and Sektor and only a break even versus the girls (Mileena, Jade, Kitana). I honestly think the only reason people are starting to flock to him is that his favorable matchups coincide heavily with the characters which are most commonly played and it's making him seem better than he really is...

Just my $0.02 anyways.

I dont think his buffs are enough to make him S-tier. Other characters like Nightwolf can shut down Kano if played right, and others like Ermac or kung lao can still give you trouble.

All it takes is a few good reads to get in. Or just out zone them. It isnt too hard to air ball over a projectile that you baited out of your opponent. To me Kano is a simple bait and punish character and only few people stand in the way of his gameplan. It all comes down to how you execute your game plan and how well you can predict and react to your opponent.

He's very much like Guile. Basic Guile tactics work well, same thing with Kano. And word of mouth will make people flock to him and assume he's godly.

Agreed, finally got to get the update today and Kano felt a lot smoother. Less start-stop I'd gotten used to. Maybe it's the Buffs High :D
