What exactly are you struggling with?
So far you said:
  • I need help
  • I'm not getting better
  • everyone online are selfish
But what exactly do you want? Specific character help? Matchups? basic gameplay?
We could some info such as which character you play, what type of style do you play (rush, zoning, turtle) etc.

yeah man, I definately understand your frustration. Me personally I get annoyed with playing online. I kind of imagine that if you enjoy running, and were forced to wear shoes that weigh 100lbs, it wouldnt be as fun. But anyways, sometimes this is all we have right?

As stated by others, if you can go offline, do so. You will probably find that you can land those combos you have been practicing. And then you will get that rush of feeling good, even if you lose the match.

If you are online, I can play with you all you would like. I will try to help you in any way I can. I can try to tell you what I think you are doing wrong, right, or whatever. So please, hit me up if you are on PSN: BODYBAG-DTONESRC

Hope to see you around.

PS, where do you live?

I have gotten better with help form Quandaghost.

I kinda feel like I'm in the middle of my game. Somewhere between "I got it" and "Not quite there yet."

I'm having a lot of trouble poking and zoning and I'm not sure how to rush properly.

Reptile has become a go to for me. I am still very much a noob compared to better Reptile users though.

My 3 biggest issues are Sindel, Johnny Cage and Sektor - Characters with great mixup games. Is that a timing thing?

knight x1868 this all takes practice and OFFLINE MU experience. You will get a feel for when to poke/counter-poke, how to zone effectively (especially with Reptile) and use that zoning to allow you to dash in safely. Reptile doesn't really rush down but he has some neat tricks/mix-ups up close.

If there are actual specifics then state them so we can help you. Especially with the 3 characters you listed above that you are having problems with.

I can't start to explain how frustrated I am with this game!

I'm not getting any better. No matter how much time I spend in practice mode, it's not happening.
Think I'm just going to hang it up. Try to get help from this "community" and people online and it seems like EVERYONE is only out for the easy win. I don't know what I'm doing well and what I need to work on. Even if I wanted to start over I'd have no idea where to begin...

Honestly. It would be a lot easier and my inability to play well would be a much easier pill to swallow if everyone's attitude wasn't so piss poor online.

Hopefully I can find some real help on here and not just a link to a video online or another web address. I want to get better. Things keep going the way they are, I'm trading this sucker in and putting my money to another use...
Mate, i feel like this about Tekken right now. I feel like im improving a little bit, but it's still not enough to win me games and im getting destroyed. MK I managed to level up fairly quickly, in Tekken I think im still a little overwhelmed with the huge array of moves.

Which character/s are you using? In MK 9, if I was learning a new character, I would make it my business to learn one juggle off a launcher, no matter how basic or weak in damage. Everytime I would get a launch, I would just go into auto pilot and do this juggle, even if it looked nooby. The point is, you want to get totally comfortable with a character. That is when you start playing better with them. In Tekken im starting to get a little comfortable with King but A.King im still finding my feet with.

Which character are you using?

I dont know about the first two, but I played a bit of Ermac and Raiden. Ermac is a pretty good keep away character and you kinda want to play Raiden as a reactionary character.

Raidens F2, 4 is a very good string and safe on block I think, on hit you can follow up with superman.

Ermac is what I think of as a punish character, but one of the best punishers in the game. Both have fairly tricky combos to pull off that require some decent timing but it's worth it as they both do good damage.

Raiden has two armour moves, superman and shocker (shocker can lead into a combo if it lands), and his Ex Teleport, teleports him twice which is really good.

Firstly, if you're looking for an easy win, as you put it, or a simple cure all answer. You're not going to find it. As much as I hate characters like Kabal, Kenshi, and Kung Lao... even they (when matched with a better opponent or someone who knows the matchup) will not get you an easy win.

The best post you can read is EGP_Shoryuken 's on page 1. Those are the things that you must learn and master to get better.

Secondly, what character do you play? You need to get with the people that run in that character's forums who are dedicated mains of that character. They can help you learn the ropes of what to do and what not to do with the character.

Thirdly, don't jump. Trust me, you'll lose.

It sounds like you're playing the wrong people, try finding a group of mature, competent people to play that will help you level up and aren't concerned with petty stuff.

Learn the frame data(safe, unsafe stuff, pokes, etc). Know when you can keep pressure going, when you have to take pressure and when you can escape.

If you want to make the learning process easier, play a character you really enjoy, it makes time fly by much easier in my personal opinion.

Match up experience is very important too..but that will come with time as you learn to understand your character's strengths and weaknesses/ tool set.

Learn patience, whiff punishing and spacing your opponent out(this comes with a lot of experience and practice, very important to learn).

People here are eager and willing to help you, it's just a matter of finding those people and what characters you play will help people direct you to dedicated character specialists and such.

there is a lot of useful information on here and MK_AI and Espio said it best.Im going to add a little on here too.You will get better as you keep playing while keeping those things in mind. It' won't happen overnight.whether I play online or rarely offline, every match is a learning experience for me.After every tough loss I know what I did wrong from not properly punishing, making careless reads,or not using my tools properly. When you do get better at this game,it will still be tough.Just much easier than when you first started.I'd like to add one more thing.Keep your composure.Majority of the cast have setups and shenanigans that we try our best to avoid. No matter how much you want to stray away from them,it's bound to happen.you're gonna get caught in Johnny's f3 shenanigans, cyrax 70% reset,Kabal(that's all I need to say),scorpion's vortex, quan chi's rune trap, running for your life from Kung Lao,Lui Kang and Smoke juggling you from one end of the stage to the other, annoying Raidens, and many more.So don't get discouraged when you experience all this even when do feel as if you've gotten much better.Just keep your composure and remember,it's just a game.I have a full time job and a college student myself but I still make it to tournaments but I just like to compete.Im ok when I don't place top 8.But it was fun and I enjoy competing with people who are equally on my level and people who are worlds beyond my level. This game can be really frustrating at times ranging from the mechanics, character development,or what you opponent is doing.I don't get frustrated a lot but when I do,I never take it out on my opponent.Online is terrible sometimes but it's good for matchup experience when you have no offline scene.People still do setups and crazy resets on there and you don't want to go to a tournament and experience something for the first time because nobody wants to travel 500 miles and go 0-2 to something they never seen before.I play online a lot but I know what to expect and how to deal with what every character is capable of when I do make it to tournaments.

It sounds like you just need to develop some fundamentals. Online play will not help you learn good fundamentals. The only way to do that is play people that know what they're doing without lag being a factor. Even learning how to play a different fighting game like Street Fighter (more competition to find) can help you with mortal kombat especially if you already know how the game works.

Online has some idiots but there are some decent mature players on there too. Do an expert ladder and work on only the things that you are not good at. Could be things like not jumping, aaing, proper pokes, deep jump kick combos, blockstring mixups, etc. The basic idea is to get yourself out of auto pilot in a lower pressure situation, and then when you get back into playing people you'll have new tools to work with. Try to work on maybe only 2-4 new things each day, and see how much you've improved in a week.

That's exactly what I do.Focus on only one thing in expert ladder.I thought I was the only one who did that.

I'm just keep all of my noobish questions here so not to crowd the boards.

How do you stay consistent with combos when your opponent is blocking? Ex. If I am using Kitana and I'm doing a 1,1 string but my opponent is blocking it, how do I continue the possible combo or how do I keep that person from jumping over my string?
