MKT N64 Tier List Discussion

Noob
I've been playing this game again, quite a bit when my DS is charging, and here is what I've come up with and a half-assed explaination on some character changes. I'm working on creating a full detail on all characters for the 64 port.

1. Noob
2. Rain
3. Human Smoke
4. Kabal
5. Classic Sub Zero
6. Scorpion
7. Kung Lao
8. Baraka
9. Kano
10. Nightwolf
11. Reptile
12. Ermac
13. Khameleon
14. Sindel
15. Raiden
16. Robot Smoke
17. Kitana
18. Sonya
19. Stryker
20. Cage
21. Jax
22. Sektor
23. Liu Kang
24. Jade
25. Cyrax
26. Shang Tsung
27. Mileena
28. Sheeva

1. Noob Saibot- Easily the most broken character in the game. Play him like you would for MKT PC/PSX port, and because the “backfire trick” does not work, Noob is even more lethal. Essentially, one move is all it takes for Noob to win a match.

2. Rain- The second best in MKT N64. His game is very similar to his PC/PSX game, but is altered because you cannot go into the aaRH infinite after the kick auto-combo. Once again, one mistake and your done.

3. Human Smoke- He plays the same as in UMK3, but his broken infinite can be done unblockable. He is above Kabal because the overall speed of the game plus his faster walk makes him better in this game.

4. Kabal- He is just as lethal as UMK3, His game remains unchanged.

5. Classic Sub Zero- Because of cart limitations, Nintendo decided to give Classic Sub all freeze containments. This gives him such a great jump to the top of the tier. The different freeze containments, and keeping his pop up and long-range slide, give him new infinite opportunities and completely changes his rush game. He can escape a run-jab with ice clone or plant one for someone who is going to teleport. Then he can go on the offense.

6. Scorpion- The teleport and forward teleport have no time limit making new counter juggles possible, however because he lacks a pop-up & having damage protection after either teleport keep him from number 5.

7. Kung Lao- He drops in this game due to other characters power in this game. Although the spin has a hit limit of 3, Spin, aaHP, Spin, it can move back and forth. Also the moving spin has an odd property of moving the screen back when you move back. He still has his aaHP, wiff dive cross screen infinite.

8. Baraka- His MKII damage level plus spinning blades are all he really needs to be in the top 10. His frames, however, are nearly as bad as Sheeva, just don’t get trapped in the corner.

9. Kano- His overall game remains unchanged.

10. Nightwolf- His overall game remains unchanged.

11. Reptile- His overall game remains unchanged.

12. Ermac- His telekenitic slam has just a slight time delay, unnoticeable unless trying something like slam, aaHP, aaLP, slam, aaHP, aaLP, slam, aaHP,HP, JK, RH, HK corner combo. A plus is his teleport punch has virtually no time delay.

13. Khameleon- She is all three female ninjas in one. Its about a 8-9 clock seconds before the computer wants her to be. Because she is a female ninja, she is harder to juggle. Her rush game is rather difficult but once you get use to the changes, she can be very lethal.

14. Sindel- Her overall game is unchanged. However if you trap someone in the corner, it IS possible to aaHP, scream, all the way to victory.

15. Raiden- His damage is not the same as the PC/PSX version. He has nearly as bad frames as Baraka. He does have his relaunch and aaHP, HP teleport infinite, and both are somewhat easily achieveable in a match.

16. Robot Smoke- His overall game remains unchanged.

17. Kitana- Her game remains unchanged, but punishers are more lethal and she can achieve Wave, aaHP, Wave to end a corner combo.

18.Sonya- Her overall game remains unchanged.

19. Stryker- He still has his rather large frame. A plus for him is his corner infinite is easier because you can do JK, aaHP, Gun, aaHK, HK, aaHP, gun. Another plus is that after doing a Baton trip, on some characters, he can do his auto-combo unblockable.

20. Cage- His frame is probably the most difficult to achieve any kind of juggle on him. This prevents him from being lower on the tier. An offensive plus is he has a relauncher that works on some characters. Just be sure if you do Shadow anything its an anti-air or after his pop-up.

21. Jax- His overall game remains unchanged.

22. Sektor- He has a double missile that can be a difference maker in a match, especially after an anti-air or pop-up combo. Other than that, his overall remains unchanged.

23. Liu Kang- His overall game remains unchanged.

24. Jade- Her overall game remains unchanged.

25. Cyrax- His overall game remains unchanged.

26. Shang Tsung- He can be more lethal on 64 because he can morph into Human and Cyborg Smoke. Other than the new morphs, he remains unchanged.

27. Mileena- Her overall game remains unchanged.

28. Sheeva- Her overall game remains unchanged.

I still say Raiden is easily top 10 material. He has fairly simple 50%+ combos, and easy Inf and is incredibly hard to juggle. He also has alot of specials. I'd say like #7 on a tier list. The only problem is I haven't played anyone good in MKT. So my list is just based on situations and what not.

You should also note that male ninja teleporter properties are virtually unlimited. In all other MKs you can only teleport every few seconds with male ninjas. So technically, they don't play the same since they have advantages.

MKT N64 Tier list

I'll edit and update later.

Classic Sub-Zero is definatly better in the N64 version oppose to PSX. I'm not too familiar with the PSX version though. Alot is the same as well as alot is different.

1. Noob Saibot
2. Rain
3. Kabal
4. Human Smoke
5. Classic Sub-Zero
6. Baraka
7. Kung Lao
8. Kano
9. Rayden

1. Noob Saibot

3. Kabal
4. Human Smoke
5. Classic Sub-Zero
I would go more with

1. Noob Saibot
2. Rain
3. Shang (can turn into Rain and Noob)
4. Human Smoke (some thread discussed about this Smoke>Kabal in the N64 version)
5. Kabal

You can't put shang up there just because he can turn into rain and noob. First of all you only get a short amount of time to be them so their infs are hard to do (any smart opponent will just block until you go back to shang). Shang also has alot changes from UMK3. Like the 3GE not being able to transform until after the third one is complete. But still shang would be the same place, or further back, as UMK3 and PSX MKT.

As for Human Smoke and Kabal thats really a toss up. It could really be either way.

1. Noob Saibot
2. Kabal
3. Rain
4. Human Smoke
5. Ermac
6. Kano
7. Sindel
8. Classic Sub-Zero
9. Stryker
10. Reptile / Kung Lao

That'd be my top 10. And MK Trilogy is my main game. I don't go by that infinite bullish, cuz most of the infinites don't get pulled off in real play, I've played in about 3-4 high level tournaments plus my closest friend used to be a MK Trilogy head too.

I would definitely put Rain above Kabal.

1. Noob Saibot
2. Rain
3. Kabal
4. Human Smoke
5. MK2 Kung Lao

11. Nightwolf
12. MK2 Jax

Rain is God tier, Period. It's always been that way. Noob, then Rain. Classic Sub needs to be higher, and why in the hell are Sindel and Kano there? And Stryker?

Kaiba has the most accurate one so far.

Isn't there another thread for this? First and foremost, Sheeva has a very easy ducking HK infinite so she is not last in N64 MKT. The other list I posted was for PSX, aside from other minor differences about her recovery. MKT N64 doesn't play like the arcade closely enough to really be considered a legit port of the game which is why there's no sticky for it. I wouldn't expect anyone to play N64 MKT competitively since it has some really broken aspects to the gameplay, not just the added characters.

I just tested out the merge feature because it seemed fitting. It seems to have worked.

Like I said my dude Kabal can avoid all of Rain's bullshit and rape him with quickness. Of course Rain could easily rape him, I'm just saying that Kabal if played smart would compete. I put Sindel, Stryker and Kano up there cuz of their juggles being able to start with kicks that's why they're higher than Raiden, Baraka and dem.

I believe Rain has a faster walking speed than Kabal. :-?

However I do agree that Kabal could compete against Rain, but not Noob.

Nice merging dude!! I was like what the hell!?!?

But I didnt know that about Sheeva. Interesting

I'm talking about in general, his air power ball is a force to be reckoned with if a jump kick attacks rain and all that shit, his spin is quick. I'm sayin just cuz somebody got a easy infinite someone could always avoid it. Kabal's speed is spontaneous[sp?]

yeah, nobody can fuck with Noob Saibot. Cloud of Death and his Evil Twin are hard enough to handle without his pop up, easy kick combo and godly teleport slam.

Kabal's jumpkick is better than the ninjas isn't it? I haven't competed in MK Trilogy seriously in like 2 years, I know Baraka's got the best jump kick in the game tho :)

Nightwolf, Kano, and Kabal have some of the hardest JKs to anti air, Baraka's can be more annoying.

OH YEAH KANO, that's another reason why I knew he was so good in Trilogy. Dude is a MONSTER. His Popup Combo is amazing and his infinite, his psycho ball.

nice stuff with the list kaiba, BUT one of the biggest non-true stuff in mkt n64 tiers list is for reptile. i often read "his game is unchanged" - thats so untrue. mkt is 1/3 faster than umk3. aahpx2 juggle properties is completely different there. its so much harder to get reptile dashes there + some of his infs dont work.

i dont have much time since i'm at work right now, but yes reptile is played in mktn64 not like umk3 arc. noob saibot is diff than mkt psx/pc. scorp > csub. i will check some more stuff when i get back home.
