Tekken 8 Post-Release Discussion Thread

You do have to be mindful of Yoshimitsus flash, but there is most certainly counterplay to it.
And what that would be? Outside of guessing that he gonna use it, doing nothing and launching his ass for it? Coz thats not a counterplay, that's guessing.
His selling point it's the low at this rate
Nah, Dave is right, Victors WR2 is like Dragunovs WR2 now with slightly better tracking on it. It's for sure one of his selling points and used very often even in highest tournament level matches. It's simply very good and for sure next on Namco chopping block. That launching low on CH has insane range and i expect it to be toned down like Dragunovs B34 range.

Ask me about my Mileena agenda.
Was reading a lot of doom n' gloom regarding Jun's nerfs this patch, and maybe they are substantial at a higher level, but they're hardly a factor where I'm at. My game plan with her is fundamentally the exact same. I just can't get Perfects anymore lol.

Have you ever got hit in this game when you swore you were blocking?

When stepping or trying to backdash or backdash cancel, the game makes you vulnerable to mids, even if you’re holding back.

I don’t know if it’s a bug or intentional, but it’s best it may be best to commit to blocking in a certain direction instead of fuzzy guarding. This especially happens online.

I’m dropping Jin and Devil Jin in favor of Lee Chaolan. Playing a Mishima in the current meta is too aggravating.

Yes I’m bad at the game (peaked at Raijin), but I think the game benefits other character more than the Mishimas not including Reina. You have to work twice as hard once you reach a certain level.

Playing Lee because he has a better counter hit game, and better mixups. Of course he won’t make me a better player, but I’d rather invest in him. In my opinion, rewarding 50/50s, evasiveness/great movement, plus frames, high chip damage, and staggerable mid strings are the best things for a character to have in this game.

Here's the Twitter post with the tier list. Speedkicks explains some of his placements in the comments if you're curious.

His justification for Jun's placement is the health nerf, and while the permanent damage can add up throughout a round, I don't think it's enough to drop her all the way down to C. He even says that she's the only bad character in the game right now, and I really don't agree with that.

Aside from Tekken Tag 1, in which Mishimas have a special mid-hitting (E)WGF, and arguably Tekken 5: DR, in which characters like Devil Jin and Heihachi have godlike damage output, Mishimas have always required additional effort and work. Even when Devil Jin was easily top 5 in Tekken 7, only Qudans was consistently placing with the character. Ironically, you are switching to the poster boy of what I consider an "extra effort, medium reward" character. Lee's gameplay revolves around various just frames and a high risk/medium reward offense. In spite of the worked involved in playing Lee, he usually ends up around mid tier. The only Tekken game in which Lee is a meta pick is Tekken 4.

Just played in road to evo tournament. 64 players made top 16 but I'm out :(.
Made some silly mistakes in the last match my own fault. Hella fun though.
Congratulations on your placement. Just review the matches and you’ll improve for next time.

That Kazuya life is rough. You have to play on point all the time.

Well I went ahead with the switch and im happy with it. Even if Jin is better, I’m a more effective player sith

It’s interesting that Jin is now the next victim of nerf propaganda. I think he’s a good character, but everyone is crying about him on the combo breaker stream and on twitter. It’s funny when something gets nerfed, the next best thing will eventually get complained about too.

Like Cyrax -> Lao/Low hat -> Stryker

Shocker! MainManSwe complains about yet another character!

I have a couple of hot takes...
  • The Tekken community has been the most petulant, even surpassing the NRS community. MainManSwe is the poster boy and epitome of this repugnant behavior.
  • The kameo system aside, which is an inherently defective mechanic, Namco's recent track record on character balance has been worse than either Capcom's or NRS's.
  • Tekken rank mode is essentially FT1, yet almost no content creators are discussing this issue as they are busy engaging in sensationalist topics such as which characters are broken, carrying players, have no counter play, etc.
On a positive note, the top 96 at Combo Breaker begins tomorrow at 12PM EST.

Sonic Fox is fighting Joonya, a strong Reina player, in winners side of the bracket.

I agree, i don't know when it happen but Tekken community now is terrible. It's just constant whining, demanding nerfs to one character then anaother and another and in a circle we go. Worst part is that Bamco listens and do knee jerk nerfs, so we have constant tier shifting and no progress till anything resambling balance.

I stay away from social media and YT creators coz there is nothing of value there only vomit and constant whining, people with opinions who think they know better coz they make movies about it or scream the laudest.

It's wild how almost nobody is talking about how bad ranked is with the FT1 half of the games, like seriously Bamco is even worse than NRS in that regard and that is saying something.

That being said, Combo Breaker is amazing for Tekken this year. Some sets were crazy and its not even top 64/32 yet. Looking forward to todays finals.

the game has plenty of issues which barely get mentioned because there are so many to be found! one and dones in ranked is the smallest issue this game has!

Wow Sonic barely lost wit Zafina. And Joonyas brother is arguably the best Zafina in the world.

If only he played this game full time, but NRS games pay more for him.
