What's new

Is there another fanbase so ready to scream “NERF” as MK’s?

This is an hour plus video of Ninjakilla vs Kombat where Ninja is being given a really difficult time.

Now you scroll through the comments and it’s pure absurdity that based off a stress test alone, Sub-Zero is being deemed “OP”…”Broken”…”Needs to be nerfed”…etc etc.

And it’s simply mind blowing. This isn’t even a fraction of the full game with entire roster/Kameo options and the worst part is NRS bends to the likes of these people.

I’m not even saying there might not be some questionable things for instance like it seems as though Sub’s dive kick is safe on block…I don’t know for sure nor do I want it changed right now… but man is the MK community annoying as fuck with every game released.

I love the fact that no other sub-zero seen did as NEARLY as good as Kombat's on the stress test. I was honestly under the impression that sub-zero was no mind-blowing character because of that and here Kombat gives NinjaKilla a run for his money. Which is to say: we don't know shit about how the meta will evolve, its absurd to call for nerfs now.

The funny thing is I think Sub is likely fine (not that we have any way of knowing at this point anyway). The real issue for that video looks like Liu just has a bad matchup against Sub. 90% of that video is Kombat bullying Ninjakilla with clone. Meanwhile, SonicFox was trouncing on Subs that would clone spam by constantly using shoulder push reversal which would punish Sub clone usage every time.

Just the ever present fighting game question: is a character actually "too good" or just a bad matchup for you / your character? With how much stuff they appear to be giving every character baseline (let alone with kameos), there will absolutely be discussions on how to deal with bad matchups. It's coming so get ready.

EDIT: to Ninjakilla's point in the video, Jax appears to only act as a "win more" kameo for Liu by enabling ToD combos in the corner and that's all. Jax does little to nothing in neutral which is where this matchup's difficulty lies. Ninja notes that Kano would be so much more helpful cause knife toss stops clone in its tracks.

Most comment sections on youtube videos are full of subhumans, not excally the place for intelligent conversation or discussion

I feel like these days it's less about which fanbase someone is from and more about which game generation someone is from which forms the bigger correlation between whining for nerfs/buffs or not.

What a garbage sentence I wrote, that sucks. I suck at this whole comment thing.

I dont think crying for nerfs is unique to this kommunity

Whinning for buffs for characters that are already S tier? Now that is the "NRS Kommunity Special"

Garbage sentence though it may be, I understand what you're saying completely. And you're not wrong.

There's a great interview that UltraChen did with LA Akira, it's from their super early days, where LA Akira came on and gave a great history discussion of the early competative Street Fighter scene. It's wild to hear how everybody back then just dealt with broken busted crap and things like 9-1 matchups. No real complaining, just accepting it because patches didn't exist.

Obviously standards have changed, and we do have patching now, but it's always interesting to me hearing an older generation gamer talk about things like balance and nerfs/buffs.

As I always say, there's a difference between expressing constructive criticism and whining. I find the current generation does the latter and often confuses it with the former. It also still blows my mind how said generation will also constantly force themselves to play a game or games constantly that they profess to hate.

Most FG communities are like this as others have already said. You do see it perhaps more often with NRS games, but that could just be because we’re apart of this community aka spend more time in it than in others.

Anyway, this is one of the most annoying parts about FG communities. And MY characters always seem to be the ones complained about the most, and get nerfed. Which always leads me to eventually dropping the game. Not because I need top tier or anything, but when you’ve grinded out hundreds to thousands of matches and hours with a character, only for something fundamental about them change significantly or otherwise, for someone like me, it’s incredibly discouraging and deflating.

I agree, people bitch and moan for nerfs every chance they get.

Also, Sub's dive kick being safe on block isn't an issue. If it was plus on block (don't know the frame data) then I can see an argument being made to nerf the plus frames.

The Kimberly hate was insane during the beta lmfao
You'd have thought she was Prime MK9 Kabal with how some people were acting. Turns out she's just a regular mid tier character. Exhibit A why we need to wait before bringing out the pitchforks.

Wait is there actually an UltraChen, or are you mixing UltraDavid and James Chen together? Or am I just that far outta the SF loop?
I think he mixed UltraDavid and James' Twitch account name together.
UltraChen IS David and James lol. Remember in DBZ when Goten and Trunks did the fusion dance to become Gotenks? That's UltraChen.

It is better this way
NRS has gotten a lot better about the game not changing so drastically with every patch, partially because the launch version of each game isn't quite as fucked as the last. Most gaming communities are pretty degenerate so I don't think MK is special.
