Mileena General Discussion

I'll still take Rain's trailer as he seems to have more of a variety of moves and that outro was just hype. We already saw this one and if people are honest, a lot of her moves are similar. To me it would do a lot of good if she for example would bite the achilles after rolling behind the opponent or scratch the eyes out rather than stab so much. Also just scratching a lot more. If you really break it down, it's very repetitive with just a lot of stabbing and rolling. I'm still on the fence, but nothing to take away from the trailer since her Fatal Blow and Fatality are among the best in the game to me.

For the earlier discussion, fun fact: Sonya Blade was created to rival Chun Li. That's the only reason Mortal Kombat (1992) had a female playable character.

As to popularity, there's no question that Scorpion and Sub-Zero are tops of the franchise, however there's also no question that Mileena's popularity has increased greatly with the reboot trilogy. While she's always been the second to Kitana, it's quite possible she's eclipsing her now. Time will tell.

For the trailer, it's excellent and the animation style and personality of the character are fantastic. It'll be interesting to see which moves are not in her proper Tournament Variations. Her Fatal Blow is excellent, though I'm not digging that Fatality.

Variation predictions:

  1. Klassic Mileena: ball roll, ravenous end of string takedowns, tele kick
  2. Kahnum Mileena: Command grab, ground sai, slide
  3. Ethereal Mileena: fade move, low sai and ball roll

Specials noted:
  1. Tele Kick
  2. Ball Roll
  3. Sai Toss
  4. Air Sai Toss
  5. Low Sai Toss
  6. Ground Sai Trap
  7. Ground Slide
  8. Command Grab
  9. Invisibility Fade
  10. Overhead(?) Ball Roll
KBs noted:
  1. Forward Grab: likely the usual tech fail
  2. Low Sai: likely when it punishes/counters a high
  3. String: either punish with easy KBs on or at the end of a long enough combo
  4. Command Grab: likely the usual wakeup roll counter

Ask me about my Mileena agenda.
Okay, so I had a LOT of thoughts and questions after watching the shit out of this trailer, so I thought I'd break it down here.

0:25: That front flip kick string gives me Sindel F4,U3 vibes, so I hope that's a good button in neutral. If it can be special cancelled after the second kick, then that'll be crazy hit-confirmable.

0:30: Telekick looks just a bit too slow to be used on reaction like Scorpion, but won't know for sure until we play her ourselves. Not surprised that Amp'd Telekick doesn't launch, but that's okay. Hopefully we can choose what side to throw the opponent on.

0:33: I think she'll only get a KB on her front throw (praise Boon). I wonder if she has a unique requirement like some of the other DLC.

0:37: This got me VERY excited. Immediately reminded me of MKX combos. I wonder if an air-to-air jump kick into air Sai will be enough to let her convert into Ball. I know how Kitana's air fans got done dirty, so I won't hold my breath.

0:39: It really looks like Mileena's gonna maintain her status as a 'fuck zoning' character with moves like this slide. I get the feeling it replaces either her roll or Telekick, but it'll pair nicely with that overhead we saw at the beginning for a cute 50/50.

0:52: As expected, Ball costs meter to launch, but as long as it still goes under projectiles and serves as a good anti-air, I will be perfectly okay with that.

0:55: Reptile just keeps getting done dirty. Never messed around with invisibility gimmicks personally, so I can't speak too much on this. Unless there's THE change to Ranked announced on her Kombat Kast, I think this'll be Kustoms only.

1:00: Just when I thought Low Sai couldn't get any better, they give it a KB. 'Nuff said.

1:15: Unless it's one of those 'x hits in a combo' requirements, I feel like this one's just gonna be a Counter hit KB

1:19: I don't know why, but this gives me Joker Jack-in-a-Box vibes. It might be good for block strings if the frame data's up to the task.

1:21: Favorite move in the whole goddamn trailer. Looks like a proper command grab too. KB is def catching the opponent's wake up roll, so that'll be a crazy threat in the corner.

1:30: Best Fatal Blow in the game. Don't @ me.

When Mileena was only rumoured, I was skeptical.

When she was datamined, I was hopeful.

When she was confirmed, I was hype.

Now? Now, I don't what the fuck I'm gonna do to make these last two weeks go by faster. All I know is that once she's out, heads aint gonna be the only thing rolling around here.

Great observations, I agree with everything except I don't think ball roll launches with meter, it seems it may be different in variations but the first one we see definitely launches meterless.

Yeah, I did notice that the Roll used on Kotal was different from the one used on Kitana. But since both meter burned afterwards, it was hard for me to say for sure, though I can definitely see meterless launching Ball Roll costing a variation slot.

I don't trust gaming journalists so I'm skeptical of what they mean when they say the amplified teleport "ends in a throw." Is that a literal, unblockable throw or it just throws them?
So by that right up it seems the low slide, command grab and ground sai custom the moves and not in a variation? I'd be grand with that if that the case

The original write-up is from NRS Tyler L.
i believe,She also does the teleport into throw in the trailer...around the 032 second mark

After watching the trailer again, the throw is a part of the amplified version. She Telekicks and amplifies it, which ends in a throw animation. I hope this clears up the confusion. She can only amplify the move on hit.

She has 2 different strings that end with a grab, so I'd expect one of them to be a true throw that you have to crouch under. And in the trailer she has several low specials, so I'm ready for some juicy mixups.

I believe every move that isn't a part of the base moveset is considered custom, whether it's in a tournament variation or not.

Did.. did yall read what I said at all? I am well aware she tosses them at the end of the amplified teleport. Please reread my actual question in that post.

What a day. What a lovely day.
I’m curious about her rolls. It looks she may have one that starts with an overhead or something because it launches her in the air before connecting, then another that looks more like her standard. The KK is going to be very interesting.

And yeah, there’s no way that slide doesn’t take away the roll from her lol

Unless there's another way to end the amplified version it's very unlikely that it's an actual throw. There would be no guessing game, after a few days everyone would know that you can crouch every time and probably punish her with a full combo

Yeah, I feel like they did a double ball roll on purpose to mix us up lmao
