I LOVE Book of Human Language. It's pure poetry over amazing beats.

As for late 90's-early 2000's boom bap, you're absolutely right. That's the real golden era of hip-hop, imo. That's when the production and sampling leveled up past the samey sounding heavy but basic drum beats and into more complex longer samples from all sorts of genres. Also, the lyricists reached peak talent at that time and had this sort of "too cool for school" vibe that didn't feel forced. It was like a competition to see who could sound the illest on every track.

The problem was, most of the good stuff never reached any sort of large audience. A bunch of stuff was only pressed on 12" in short runs. I went through discogs.com and looked at every hip-hop vinyl from 97-03 and made a youtube playlist of all the best stuff I could find. It's a rather large playlist at this point (almost 1000 tracks) but I feel like each one is at least an 8 out of 10. So, just check it out, maybe put it on random and jump around. I'm sure you'll hear some gems that you've never heard before, as well as some that you remember but might not have heard for 20+ years. It's quite a trip.

Sorry i never got alert for this reply, most people will say All balls don't bounce is his best but Book of Human language just hit me at the perfect time and def will never leave my top 3 until I die. I don't love everything Acey does but I will enjoy the shit of it still, I thought The Lonely ones was really good.

Hip hop got a bit weird post 2k some good stuff still came out but the quality and creativeness kinda peaked for my taste late 98-2002. I started getting into a lot of Canadian Stuff Epic, all the P&C stuff and branched out from there and I fucking still love Canadian shit they are more on the backpacker side for the most part but the boom bap was fading by then.

The playlist is good lots of shit I havent thought about in a long ass time lol. I used to love the Juggaknots Clear blue skies was such a dope track dunno if its on there but I saw a track by them on your PL.

This is probably my favorite EP of all time, in our crew we had this pretty much never went out of rotation ever.

I honestly do not know how to process all the good hip hop I have heard the last 25 years. Maybe it was my age or whatever but 94-2003 ish was def my favorite period of music to me personally. Lots of good shit def came after that but those years def hit me the hardest.

This was my personal anthem back in the day when I was a youngin, makes me laugh now lol.

We could probably fill pages of old hip hop that %94 of this site would not feel in the slightest but thats how it should be lol.

All Balls Don't Bounce is great but A Book of Human Language is probably the best "concept album" I've ever heard. It just depends on if you're in the mood for a concept album.

Who is P&C? Sorry, the initials aren't ringing a bell. I'm sure I'll know who it is once you tell me. There's a lot of good Canadian hip-hop on that playlist, some of it was totally new to me. I really like Mathematik and his crew Down to Erf. Also there's a bunch of great UK and Swedish hip-hop on there.

I think I had Clear Blue Skies on the Playlist but I took it off in favor of some other tracks of theirs. It's a great song but I had listened to it so much when I was younger that I just skip it now. Subject matter was kind of heavy too. There's tons of great stuff NOT on this list. It's kind of just stuff I wanted to listen to in my car, not really meant to be a greatest hits or a full compendium. There's no MF Doom on this list. I figure he deserves his own playlist otherwise I'd have to put like 30 tracks on here. I didn't want any one artist to dominate. A lot of this stuff you can't really find anywhere else. It's mostly not on Soundcloud, Bandcamp or Spotify.

I like that Punk Barbarians track, the chorus is pretty cringe but I like the lyricism and I want to check out some of their other stuff now.

Yeah I agree concept album or not it is fucking bangs till this day lol. Speaking of concept albums I always thought this one was really good. It was labled as a horror movie soundtrack with no actual movie. Lots of instrumentals and some vocals from Sage Francis and Buck 65.

P&C is Peanuts and Corn crew\record label. Pip Skid, John Smith, Dj honeycut, Mcenroe and more. They been around maybe since mid 90's and loved them since first listen but def not for everyone. Park Like Setting and Fermented Reptile where some of the projects that I really enjoyed back in the day.

Randomly its a concept album and def a product of its time. The beats and samples and DJ Honeycut really stood out to me at that time.

There is so much Canadian hip hop but most of the stuff I listen to is more on the backpacker side and you either love it or hate it. From Josh Martinez, Epic, Moka Only, P&C, Factor Chandelier (Personal Favorite) and so so many more. Honestly not many of my friends are into it so I don't talk to much about it but I fucking love it.

Def feel you on the Clear Blue Skies Track its just the first thing that came to mind when I saw Juggaknots. I cant even make playlist no more the just become a jumbled mess of shit lol. Now Driving I only usually listen to audio books and only really listen to music when I play fighting games.

The rest pf the Punk Barbarians album was pretty garbage besides a couple decent tracks.

Used to love Defari back in the day this track was so good

I've gotten back into metal/thrash lately. Lots of Power Trip, Havok, and Slayer. I found a hardcore punk band called Cro Mags. They have a song called Hard Times that I think I'm gonna make my new wrestling theme

Partially as a reference to one of the all time greatest promos, Dusty Rhodes' Hard Times
I saw Propagandhi back in 2012 in Manhattan. For the encore, they covered "Hard Times" and John Joseph joined them on stage :) The whole "The Age of Quarrel" is fucking great. If you like that sound, you should check out DRI, RKL, Suicidal Tendencies, etc. Comeback Kid was the opening band at the Propagandhi show. Some big ginger guy stage dove straight into my face. Fun show other than the bloody lip lol, but that comes with the territory in punk and hardcore shows.

I've been a HUGE Propagandhi fan since the late 90s. Only seen them once though so far. I'm a big fan of a number of Epitaph and Fat Wreck Chords bands. I'm big into punk, hardcore (not "metal" hardcore), skate punk, cross-over, and thrash.

Arez | Booya | Riu48 - Rest Easy, Friends
Been taking it back to 2011 with Drake's Take Care album, after a friend made some FB statuses about people comparing Drake to MJ lol.

I'd forgotten how much this album had...

Lord Knows is one of my favorites from the album.

Welcome to Akihabara
Back listening to the 2nd wave Norwegian black metal atm. Mainly dark throne. I seem to have a pattern and genre bounce around metal/industrial.

Sprinkle a bit if trap and chiraq drill in there. King Von has been in the rotation lately.

Last track on Petrucci's new album. This song is insanely tasty and technical. Portnoy fucking murders the drums in this. This is super impressive.
