Yes, Combo Assist is permitted in the professional scene, though it's rarely used because at that level, it's limitations hurt more.

In Killer Instinct, all it does is:

  • Removes the need to perform directional inputs for cancelled Special Moves in the Combo System
  • Permit the Player to do an Ultra Combo simply by pressing Forward and the three Punch or Kick buttons, depending on the Character
  • Allows the Player to perform two specific Enders in the Combo System by holding Forward and pressing Heavy Punch or Kick
  • Prevents the player from using their character's Combo Trait unless they hold "Back"
  • Makes a player's Combos a bit more predictable since it tends to use a specific set of Special Moves
Overall, the major thing it does is help prevent the Player from dropping their Combo during the Combo Sequence. A professional player rarely drops anyway, and instant access to their Character's Combo Trait is of more benefit to them.
You cant use manuals if u have combo assist on right? When i had it turned on i couldnt do any manuals anymore so that was a big no for me.

So its basically a easy mode with some limitation, that sounds pretty lame.

My concern for your perceptions of Combo Assist is that the way you view it, you seem to have it set up as a mental block, which is the kind of thing that prevents one from improving themselves.

Don't mistake me, I'm not insulting you or trying to put you down, I'm pointing out a trend I've noticed with your criticisms of the tool.

What would be great for you would be to really analyze the tool, learn how it works, learn what it does, and more to the point, learn how to overcome it. This will also help you to see what other areas of the game you can improve at that are unrelated to Combo Assist.
Here's what I see: it allows mashing cause you can spam the same button for one mega combo
I did that b4 and got bored of the game for a year! Just got boring because of how it seemed. Sure I don't use it with the full potential or whatever, I have just always seen it as a Noob helper tool more than anything else.

Like a.i drive assist in Mario kart 8d
You cannot get better using a tool that keeps you from failing.

That is why I see it as I do lol.

I agree you dont get better when using this but since its much more easy to combobreak i only see it being helpfull against other beginner players.

Well combos are already easy mode in this game when you don't use manuals.
I dunno i guess I have a different mindset, I would rather focus on improving then getting having my inputs dumbed down, Like if I was playing someone who never played fighting games I would make them use it. If you have fg experience though I do not see the benefit unless you just want a better chance of winning vs equally skilled players that know how to play fighting games.

Exactly. When I play I make sure my cousin DOES NOT HAVE IT ON but anyone else does, cause he know HOW to play, there fore he doesn't need this tool. It's GREAT for casual play when you have a party. It's A Very bad thing if you try to get better

Well combos is one the less important things to focus on when u try to improve. Combos is really basic stuff, you should focus more on antiairs, learning framedata, learning what ur best buttons are, learning frametraps, setups, etc.

Yeah. This is something I never did in KI. I was always just playing for fun, and playing off feel. Another pro-tip is to try and us shorter combos, mixing them up with longer stuff. Get in, get some damage, get out. Neutral is key, as many people ONLY focus on combos.

I struggle with this. As I said, I've never really played seriously.

Which is why you can't really bother with ca, cause the moves are tied together essentially

No dude. It doesn't affect neutral, ONLY combos while they're happening and ONLY at the player's choice. I don't want to be rude but I truly don't know how you're still not understanding this mechanic.

Yes you can still manual.

Ah ok, i guess i mistimed it a few times, autodoubles automatically started and i figured it only worked with combo assist disabled.

Is that all you read I feel you skipped over everything I said before. Even others agreed with what I said
