I get all that, for sure, and am not saying it's bad at all. I'm just saying I think Air Tele provides more utility when combined with Amp Tele. You can already cancel those strings into Spirit Ball with limited risk. The way I see it, Low Slide enhances his grounded pressure game, but it's more about the threat of it than what it actually gets you (limited damage and building toward a single KB), while Air Tele (when combined with Amp Tele) enhances his jump-in pressure and anti-zoning capabilities.
Air + Amp tele would make Noob the "Upgraded Slayer" imo lol. Would be takin upgraded skalps left and right lol.

yeah noob has a lot of air-moves, actually overall his moves are pretty hodge podge, lack any real cohesive gameplan and by now its clear as day to me they put minimal thought and planning into him at launch, which is why they took until the first major patch to give him a decent tourney variation.

I read a tweet that it would make sense if he had a 'sickle' variation with all the sickle moves. And a 'shadow portal' variation with all the shadow moves. Something cohesive, something that makes sense.

I've been using his 2nd variation, the one with the Air Sickle (though I don't actually use the air sickle)... I never bother learning the names of the variations. The damage from amp tele and the utility of spirit ball are just too good to give up for the lackluster tools of the other variations.

Does anyone even use Dark Sabbath anymore?
Me. 95% of the time.

Sickle Port is an extremely situational move. It comes in handy for getting behind people and catching them whiff the other way, but anyone who knows the matchup is going to be waiting to blow you up for it. It would completely change Noob's game if it were, say, made to be kinda like Ares' Teleport in Injustice 1, with a Close Far directional option and an Opposite Side or Really Far option you could burn meter for. Given the ridiculous mobility that, for example, Eternal Geras or Upgraded Jacqui have, that doesn't seem like too big an ask. I could see giving it an outright buff maybe making it TOO good.
However, since specials cancelled off of a jump kick don't come out on block anymore, the already risky strategy of JK+Teleport Behind no longer exists.

Spirit Ball should be a default move for Noob. Across the board. One of the best projectiles in the game.

I don't understand why Shadow Slide, to the best of my knowledge and PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong because I've barely touched the third build - is the ONLY other Shadow move he has that adds to the 10 Shadow KB. His B3 KB isn't ever happening against high level competition. He only gets one Throw KB now. But you're telling me someone put together Pitch Black - which is for sure his "I Use My Shadow For Everything" variation with THREE EQUIPPED MOVES THAT USE HIS SHADOW - and made it so that NONE of them contribute to it? That makes zero sense to me. I hope I am wrong. But then again, he still has SHADOW STRIKE, the equippable special that's literally just a low kick to the ankle, with no Amp, no combo, accomplishes absolutely nothing, so...a lot about Noob makes no sense, yet here we are, because he's our boy.
He has ONE reliable KB, and that's the B1 1+3 counter. No overhead. No wavedash. Half as much reason to be afraid of getting thrown. And I'm also starting to think that @karaokelove is right about Air Slam being better than Combo Slam, since EVERY FUCKING TIME I finally managed to catch someone with the Amp, they Breakaway. And also, the same thing that hinders Sickle Port helps Air Slam, because you catch them off the ground if you hit the JK.

Idk. This game makes me insane.

Noob's saibot or noob saibot's?
Does Noob have any setups into Ghost Ball? It seems like it should never hit a human opponent...
What is the point of his Air Sickle Port? Is it as much of a bill as it seems? Or am I missing something? It's such a shame I have to create a custom variation to have Air Teleport and Teleport Kombos at the same time.
It works online because i can jump around a bit then once they think they have a pattern you use sickle port into either . Amplify . Throw or mid. If they just block waitin on a punish then use hop 2 ..offline you can get a full combo before my sickle amp comes out so yeah pretty useless lol

Yeah i been saying Spirit Ball should be in Noob's base kit for a while.
My noob change list

  • Spirit ball in base kit. Give Seeing double a diff slot move, or allow it to be amped to slow down or speed up like Skarlet Blood Ball
  • 113 is jailable from D3, would require a tweak to S1 hitbox. (bc every other character in this game can do this easily and it's flat out stupid noob cant.)
  • Sickle snag, the shadow dive kick, amp shadow tackle, every shadow move noob has should contribute to shadow KB and amp should count as 2 shadows. Tons of characters in this game with kindergarden KB requirements. Make it even.
  • B3 Kb fixed to be late block or counter, etc. Something to make it viable or else just remove the damn thing and add a diff KB.
  • make the link for Dark Sabbath optimals 1-2 frames easier on the link. i think this gets fixed easily with the s1 hitbox change.

I agree on adjusting s1. Though online I have been jailing s1 after a successful d3. I can't say the same for d1, tho.

It's almost as bad as Cyber Sub in MK9, but not quite. Those were dark times.

I REALLY need to make better use of my hop attacks.

The thing I dream of that will probably never happen: add another string to B3, possibly one that would end in an overhead like MK9 Quan Chi's B3 1+2, or current Shang's B14. It can be a splat, it can have a gap, special cancels, whatever. Just give me SOMETHING other than an unsafe ender and often unobtainable KB, so my only combo starter that can't get blown up like a box of grenades can be formidable for reasons other than Slide.
I have been Noob and pretty much ONLY Noob since the start of this game, and I am genuinely tired of being forced to rely on one variation/one specific move in Slide to be competitive. I'm sure there are Kahn, Shang, Cetrion, etcetera players who can sympathize.

You have to frame perfectly time a microdash forward after the D3 hits, you really been doing that online?
Yeah. I play with a friend online and he automatically does a d2 after I hit him either with a d3 or d1. If I do a d1 on hit, I eat that damn D2. But with d3 on hit, my S1 jailed and punishes his attempt at a d2. I haven't found the need to microdash yet.

EDIT: Although it depends on the range tho. If my d3 hits from far away, I do a B3+Slide or B3 + ghost ball (With Dark Sabbath). I tend to hit them with d3 close most of the time.

As per a video posted by an Austin Redden and confirmed my Mr. Meeks in the NRS group on Facebook, Pitch Black Noob's Sickle Toss gets parried 100% of the time by Liu Kang, from any point on the screen.

Awaiting confirmation as to whether or not it works with Jade or Joker or other parry characters.

I cannot accurately describe with words how infuriating this is.

But hey, I wouldn't have these problems if I just picked a top tier and stopped being negative, amirite?

I tell you what: it figures that this is the first time in my nine year history of attempting to be competitive in fighting games that I've ever stuck to one and only one character, instead of finding my dual mains and spending the rest of the cycle in an infinite character crisis. I'll be damned if any level of absurdity, stupidity, absurd stupidity, or anything short of MK9 Cyrax or Ashrah being made DLC will get me to give up on him now. But I'll be damned twice if I'm just gonna take my Shadow Slide and like it, and not be as vocal as I can about the tesseract full of grenades that is Noob's problems in this game. I knew and said on Day One just by taking him to the lab that he was never going to get anywhere major without some real help, and if it wasn't for the aforementioned buffed Slide keeping Seeing Double above water, he'd probably be worst in the game right now.

We're in the same situation. It's like no character other than Noob "clicks" for me. I've fooling around with Kabal, another strong and honest character. But I'm still stuck with Noob. Kinda like I stuck with Sektor ever since he was released in MKX.

The problem right now I feel is that the current top tiers overshadow characters like Kabal or Noob. What current problems do you see now with Noob?

In a nutshell: he's too high risk/low reward, and there are too many characters who can do what he should be able to do.
B1 1+3 is death on block and can't be special canceled into anything to keep him safe or give him pushback. Sindel, Baraka, Scorpion, etc, get that for free.
F2/F221 get blown up by anyone who knows the matchup.
112, 113, and 212 all start with a high. 112 having the gap isn't a big deal to me, though, because you can make mindgames out of it.
There's no reason on Earth to ever block high against him, because B3 is only really useful in Seeing Double.
Outside of the universal Throw KB (which he can now only get one of per fight), he has ONE truly viable KB in the B1 1+3 2 counter.
Running Clone, his only universal projectile which isn't really a projectile because it goes away if you get hit, is ass.
Pitch Black is a variation made entirely out of Shadow specials, yet somehow NONE of them contribute at all to the 10 Shadow KB, which is barely worth going for even in Seeing Double due to how bad Running Clone is.
Dark Sabbath has one of the best projectiles in the game in Spirit Ball, but also has one of the most blow-upable moves in the game in Sickle Teleport, and an Amp Teleslam that's not only a royal pain in the ass to open someone up well enough to hit them with, but it also going to get Breakaway'ed half the times you manage to get it.
And Shadow Slide, which compliments ALL of his strings and normals, makes his B3 actually worth being afraid of, and would move him way up the viability chart if it were ever made a universal special, makes Seeing Double so much better than DS and PB that you'd be hindering yourself by not using it.

This is why I get as mad about this game as I do; I don't understand how we went from MKX, where even if you hated the meta and the Run button and all of that, you can't really deny the amount of work and care and iniquity that went into every single variation in that game...to characters like Noob, Shao Kahn, Kollector V3, Skarlet, etc., whose variations feel like they were just pieced together with no real thought in mind as to how they would stand up to everyone else. Further proof in my opinion that the whole variation system was never supposed to be the norm in this game. I'm not saying that out of bitterness or anger; I'm saying that from a design standpoint, that's what this whole system has looked like since they implemented it. Whether they weren't given the funds from WB that they would've needed to fully balance out an open custom competitive meta, or they just decided not to take this game that far, I don't know. But there are few characters in the game who are as held back by it as Noob is.

Today is a big day, shadow homies.
We may not have a lot to work with, BUT, we do have one of the best mids in the game, with which we can, hopefully, inflict more consistent pain thanks to this patch.

Time to hit the lab and see what we can find.

I've come a long way using b1 properly so idk if this patch helps my noob much, sure as hell would have six seven months ago
I think it will def help people new to and learning noob the most

I'm wondering if this affects noob negatively by making D3 on block into b1 less effective
Will prob have to start micro dashing back before doing a b1 like scorpion

Shall we do later a Noob mirror? I'm on PS4, tho. We can try a Krossplay Room.
