MK11 Not Returning as Evo 2020 Mainstage game

Evo's main lineup has been announced, and MK11 is missing. What are your overall thoughts on this?

Nothing surprising though. T7 has been interesting to watch since the release, MK11 was interesting first month and then just faded.

All they need to do was make a good game....i mean this game hid victory poses and intros behind some rng wall. Think about that for a sec.

The game doesn't need EVO, in fact, EVO is no longer the climax of a season for e-sports. Most game have their own community and exclusive tournaments, MK has it and DBFZ has it. Long gone are the times where games were depending on EVO for exposure and/or affirmation of being active or not.

MK11 sold alot, has an active community and not being on EVO doesn't even matter. Game will thrive as long NRS supports it and they are showing signs of it.

They’ve treated the fans like shit by adding unnecessary stuff like breakaway, slow pace, alleged neutral game (then they add 50/50s and frame trap shit), God awful grinding, shitty variations and low amount of moves, AUTO FILLING METER (who does that???),then they announced the KP without naming the characters. Kudos to people who have high interest in this trash and they don’t lose the feeling of fun after a couple of hours.

Here’s the problem, they don’t support the game. Those assholes said “we’ll be supporting the game since launch for a couple of years at least” and the first thing they do is that they announce a KP pack with 6 characters that come out through out the entire year. What’s next? Another KP for another year? That’s not supporting. That’s bullshitting. Their last update will probably be balancing everything we want but by that time they’ll anounce I3 or MK12.

 

So word on the street is nrs didnt pay up to evil mr wizard to attend as a main game . Thought this was going to be their longest supported game ever?

 

Y'all acting like EVO had a wild love affair with NRS games all along and only broke up with them because of MK11.

Well kudos for them for trying to change how the game is played and trying to innovate game mechanics.

You are a funny guy I'll give you that, but you can be really short sighted sometimes.

SF doesn't tell you which characters are coming with a Season Pass, DBFZ doesn't do it either, so...where did NRS have gone wrong here?

Having mechanics to breakaway from combos ain't new, they exist since Arcsys games(GG, BB, DBFZ) and I don't see a problem with them. Actually breakaway is well done because it's balanced, you breakaway from a combo, which is powerful, but you are left with no get up options and flawless block attacks.

Frametraps exist for a long time, you must be new, no? facepalm

50/50s? C'mon man, are you serious? If it didn't had setups the game would be bland...right?

Auto filling meter is one of the best changes done! Why? Take a look at characters that can have great strings, frame traps/jails and getting meter for every normal you block or for characters with long ass combos and getting meter for it.

For ya'll that don't enjoy the game, it's your right and it's fair, just don't be toxic and take the fun away of trying to have fun with the game.

 

NRS is a progressive company now, whether you like that or not is up to you. However, this lead to their decision not to bring babalities back, because they tailor made the gameplay for babies and didn't want to offend their core audience. While creating depth that only a baby could appreciate won't affect sell numbers much, on the other hand it doesn't bold well for a healthy competitive scene. I have no idea why MK11 didn't make EVO this year, but the boring gameplay certainly didn't help its case.

The game is just plain boring to watch and problably for alot to play aswell. I don't understand how MK11 sold that many copies in the first place.

Don't think this will kill the game, plenty of other tournaments to be featured at.

What saddens me most is when I see people bashing on the game and I KNOW where it's coming from. Yeah you can't run in and unga bunga anymore and now you're stuck losing more than you're winning and that's never fun. It's also not the sign that the game is bad.

EVO staff isn't fond of NRS, it's been clear with every game from the studio at EVO. From the schedule to support, it's clear.

Online Player numbers are higher too compared to previous titles. I am not sure why people act as if EVO is the only measurement about if a game is doing well or not. Especially when you have games in the lineup which have less sales, online and offline player numbers.

Final Kombat is coming soon, after that we get more infos about a possible next Season. BBTag has a Tournament Circuit event as a side Tournament at EVO, MK11 can do the same when they want.

This line up, specially with MvC2, is just to cater to the fans, which is fair.

Capcom prob dished out the green for mvc2 to be there. In that case, umk3 should be there.

 

well then .... I only used to watch Evo because MK, so, if no MK in this Evo, I can happily say "go fuck yourself, Evo, and your hypocrite agenda !"

MK should do the same Sony did with E3, and survive without depending of this fucking Evo tourney, that's it.

 

You're right guys. Mr Wizard totally hates that customs aren't tourney legal- he even saw Chernny post and decided MK11 should not be at Evo because of dash cancelling. It was a hard decision to cancel it despite better attendance and viewership numbers than several of the games that made it in, but knowing that many pokes are just -5 he had to make the tough decision.

I remember after V3s came out how hyped every tournament was since then. Upset after almost upset after upset etc. Just check the old tournament threads. And now suddenly "it's boring to watch". Please...

 

I'm surprised so many on here dislike the game, yet still can be arsed to post on TYM. Honestly dont care all that much about the game's exclusion to EVO. Cant be arsed to give af to drive out to participate, and not all that excited to watch the same gaggle of pro players who are all besties fight for a pot. With that being said, I do find MK11 quite enjoyable in moderate doses. Just played it for an hour last week for the first time in months and had a riot of a good time. Little to no investment, just solid fun. With all the comments on display here, it's as if Ed Boon stole your rent money. No need for such acrimony if a game fails to meet your individual expectations.

 

just me or this lineup is built around only ..... japanese companies fighting games ? ..... so now Yakuza is bribering Evo and making hidden business on this ? lol haha
