PC/Steam Version - Performance, Technical and General Discussion Thread

By the way after the last patch, my game sometimes closes all of a sudden. No error message or anything, it just closes. Already lost 3 ranked matches just because of that, one before it even started.

Yeah, I noticed that it is usually added 1 full set later but it wasn't this time or since then.

I know you care about the PC version, thank you for your dedication. I'm on Win7 with all updates, i5-4570S, ASUS DUAL 1060 6GB + 8 GB Ram but I'm not on the latest Nvidia drivers. I'm a don't fix it if it ain't broken guy unless it is really necessary to update.

When FPS drop was introduced first I lowered my settings, auto-detect suggested Max settings and benchmark gave me a pass on that with High fps/best rating at launch. I had no issues with that until that patch (Krypt CTD and whatnot). Since then I used the lowered settings. Today after the crash I deleted my MK11 hidden folder in Appdata and performed auto-detect and benchmark again. It gave me max settings once again and benchmarked me with best fps rating as well.

I turned off all PC specific settings (no 60 fps mode, no RGB stuff) and have had 0 issues tonight. If something comes up I'll update Nvidia drivers next.
@imMORTAL KOMBATant My pleasure. If you're still having issues and I can help I will. Having said that, I'm glad to read you seem to have gotten things working, and I hope that lasts! I also fully understand you're "if it ain't broke, don't fix it mentality." For myself, I actually only do driver updates once a month (usually at month's end) for similar reasons, so I'm two driver sets behind myself.

Which drivers are you currently on? At the least, should problems persist, I'd recommend updating to at least the launch day drivers. A few other comments that may help if you keep having issues:

  • I've heard people using dual-video card set ups have had issues. You can try disabling one of your cards and see if performance improves. If you're not sure how to do this, it's a very simple option in Device Manger that I can point you do, and re-enabling your second card is just as easy.
  • Do you have GeForce Experience installed? If so, try Optimizing the game via it. Also, make sure you turn off it's In-Game Overlay (unless you plan on recording stuff wtih nVidia Share, of course).
  • If Windows 7 has a default recording software, then I'd recommend disabiling it as well. I know Windows 10 has Windows Captures, and it's simple to disable.
  • Agreed on turning off RGB stuff, as that's been buggy. I'd recommend keeping Krypt 60 FPS Mode off for now, but if things are going good, try turning 60 FPS Specials and such back on. That one should be fine now.
  • Are you using a Controller? If so, is it a DualShock 4 or another kind? Earlier on, and I'm not sure if it's still the case, DualShock 4's were causing crash issues. If you have another model Controller, I'd recommend testing with that for a while and seeing what happens.

Odd: Have you tried verifying your game's file integrity via the Steam Client? If so, does this happen in Offline as well?

Well, the game is always online, but if you mean, on single player, yes, it does. I will check integrity and will report later.

I installed the 'launch driver' immediately, I usually update if the driver is specifically for 'my game'. Then I installed the 430.64 driver because at that time they said it could help but that's 2 months old now.

  • By DUAL I meant the ASUS DUAL series (the white one), I don't have 2 GPUs. ;)
  • I don't like Geforce Experience so I haven't installed it.
  • I don't know about any Win7 default recording software but I'm no expert on this.
  • I use DualShock 4 as I have the game on PS4 as well. I read about issues like that but I use DS4 since the MKXL days and I rarely have similar crash issues but you never know...

  • Ah, I understand now. I'm not familiar with all the brand names for GeForce cards; thought you meant a dual set up.
  • Did a check, and it looks like Windows 7 does not have a default recorder.
  • Aye, it is possible the DualShock 4 may be causing some issues. Only way to know would be to test for a while with another model pad.

Ran into some performance issues myself again last night. Very late Wednesday night, I decided to switch the Krypt to 60 FPS, just to see what would happen. After loading the Krypt it did have some frame issues for a few minutes, but then everything smoothened out and was well. I left the mode on as a result.

Yesterday, I fired up my game, and in my first match I had the more traditional slow down as things loaded in more. That surprised me as that had seemed fixed. As I continued playing, the former issues of new stages and sometimes characters taking a while to load and causing frame issues also returned.

After playing for a while, I went into the Krypt, it was slow for a few minutes again, but then just kept chugging and gave me my first Krypt Crash to Desktop in a good while.

After the game re-synced up with Steam Cloud, I launched it again and went to run the benchmark. The benchmark took a few minutes to simply load, and gave me an average of 25 FPS! I then went to customize a character, and switching between characters' variations, like moving to highlight Highborn Kitana as opposed to Fan-Fare, took minutes to load!

I thought I had switched off 60 FPS mode again and went into the Krypt, but I did not. No crash this time though. I properly switched it off, and then ran the benchmark again, and a solid 60 FPS average. No more load delays or anything,.

I suspect the 60 FPS Mode for the Krypt was somehow bogging down the entire game for me last night. I honestly don't have an issue with the default Krypt framerate, so I'm going to leave it at that and see if the problems return, or if all's back to pre-Patch 5 performance again.

Likely won't be able to test until later in the weekend though.

^ These performance issues will probably never be solved because they are caused by Denuvo, doing who knows how many checks in the background etc. Until Denuvo is removed we will have to deal with these issues that are obviously not consistent.
For example game ran perfectly fine for me yesterday and today fps drops and slowdowns again. Also very high CPU usage.

Did they change something with Denuvo though? It shipped with Denuvo and the issues started for many of us post-Patch 5 when the 60 FPS options were added.

A lot of ppl were saying that Denuvo checks were increased when performance issues started happening. Probably newer and more aggressive version of Denuvo.

I suppose that's certainly possible. If Denuvo is ever removed from the game, we'll know for certain, of course. Until then, there's nothing we can do on that front.

After I get to testing more, I'll let everyone know if my performance is consistently back up after returning the Krypt to 30 FPS.

It is entirely possible there's some overall game bug with the 60 FPS mode for it. Or not.

So I played a good bit on Sunday and a bit last night, and performance issues have definitely improved a lot since the last patch, but it is not perfect. I've had to keep the Krypt at 30 FPS, which is no big deal.

Often the game boots up and everything is fine, though a few times I've had minor frame issues at the start of a match or so, but it goes super quick, usually resolving itself as it says "Fight" or immediately afterwards.

Since they didn't mention massive fixes in this patch (performance-wise) outside of the Krypt, I'm not going to open a new ticket at this time. We'll see what the next patch brings, which I suspect will come in the next few weeks.

A point of advice I can give on PC is when you play MK11 you may want to close any open browsers. The game may not like it otherwise (might get stutter, frame droppy). :p

I guess memory or process stuff, I dunno.

Good call.

For any game, honestly, I always recommend you close all unnecessary programs. No point in letting them use system memory when they aren't needed.

stutters are caused by high cpu utilization for me at least.

That's pretty realistic, since it needs to be ported over. Best case would be Friday, I figure, worst case, release of Nightwolf.
You're way more optimistic than me! I think Aug 13 with Nightwolf is the best case scenario that's realistic.

It's sad that they can't sync up a patch with 4 months lead time, but it is what it is. I mean, hats off to QLOC. I'd bet the farm they don't get shit on patches until the consoles launch the new patch.

Honestly, that's what I suspect: QLOC and Shiver don't get the patch to start porting until launch on consoles or very, very close to it. Even back when they took over, and completely cleaned up, Mortal Kombat X, patches were still a good four days after console.

That's why I say Friday as the absolutely best case, but I do figure Nightwolf launch is the most realistic.

In truth, I'd rather wait the extra days for them to a) test it properly and b) make sure it doesn't break anything, as opposed to them rushing it and causing unintended, game-breaking issues. A four business day wait, while not ideal, is not the end of the world.

I'm also hoping for more PC-specific performance optimizations.

Btw, i don't know if it's just me, but the game does not change rounds to 1 round to win in Klassic Towers for me, i changed the "rounds to win" back and forth in the menu countless times, it's always stuck at 2.

Im trying to farm for heads, but it's making the grind worse that way. I submited a ticket reporting the problem, no concret answer so far, @Juxtapose could you test that on your end? thx in advance.
