What's new

Where's the 3D-era characters?

Not including the new characters that have shown up in the NRS games, the whole roster is MK1-MK3 characters, with Frost being the sole character outside of that.

I mean, that's all the Kombat Pack even contains too, besides the guest characters.

MKX was moving in a good direction for this. Looking at the final roster, we had 5 post-MK3/pre-MK9 characters in the game (Quan Chi, Shinnok, Tanya, Kenshi and Bo Rai Cho). Three of those were in the base roster too.

Then MK11 dropped the ball by giving us only one character from that era, Frost. And by going the leaks, the only other one we could be getting is Fujin.

I understand the MK1-MK3 was when Mortal Kombat was at its most popular, but that doesn't mean we can't have more variety and give those characters a makeover. Imagine if every Street Fighter game that came out now consisted of only the SFII characters, besides the new characters. That's what it's like.

Can anyone else relate?

I do miss some representation from Order and Chaos Realm. We already have 4 Edenians with Sindel and Rain - I think it would be really cool to expand on the MK Universe like that

The only ones I really miss are Quan Chi and Kenshi. Wasn’t a fan of the rest of them. I’m more old school though for sure having played UMK3 for so long, so I’m good with the main core cast.

Never understood the Havik hype either?

I can only speak for myself. I was totally indifferent to Havik until I read the MKX prequel comic. Then I became a hardcore fan.

The 3D-era characters are overhated. I know not all of them were so great, but there's still many that me and other fans would like to see again, like Reiko, Li Mei, Havik and Ashrah. Even Nitara and Hotaru could do with a makeover.
I agree that they're over-hated, however, they're honestly not that good, for the most part. Enough of them are just different "versions" of klassic characters anyway. I mean, would you prefer Johnny Cage, or Kobra?

With the exception of a select few (Kenshi, Quan Chi, Tanya, etc.) most of the 3D era characters are, honestly quite forgettable. The new characters introduced in the last game, however, most of them are actually very cool and feel like a proper fit to the franchise. Kotal Kahn, Cassie Cage, D'Vorah, all are far more interesting than Darrius, Hotaru, Shujinko, etc.

@Nickolaidas I agree, Havok was very cool in the comics.

The only 3d era character I was hoping to make an appearance was Onaga.

I still kind of have hope since Reptile is gone right now.

I'd really like to see Tanya return, even though we have Jacqui, I prefer Tanya by far.

Sareena was teased, and Havik would be cool.

I think Frost failed to impress on her return, i actually think she is far worse than her DA interaction.
Meh, she fills the same niche Cyber Sub Zero did back in MK9. Not a powerful character, gimmicky and fun. Her design isn't terrible they definitely could've done a lot worse honestly.

With buffs she'd be something else. Her fighting style is unique (mid range pokes) and will definitely throw off some people if she becomes meta.

For real though, 3d era characters sucked because 3d MK focused too much on human marshal arts. It made characters have no personality or anything unique really. I wouldn't mind any of them coming back , if they are remade properly.

Well, I can agree with some of that (not all, as I wouldn't mind Hotaru back, and I would only say some are forgettable, rather than most). I haven't seen one person asking for Kobra back, which I understand why since he was a poor man's Johnny Cage. But some also had interesting takes on existing characters, like Ashrah.

Agreed. They tried way too hard with her and utterly failed.
I don't mind Frost here. I just wish she had some human skins.

With just the right amount of love all the 3D era characters could end up just as dope as MK11 Frost imo. I’d really love to see Dairou & Hotaru have a chance to get some real attention paid to their story because it’s pretty good.

There's definitely a few that no one would ask for, Kobra, Dairou, Kira etc. But there are some that would be interesting to see with an MK11 makeover, Hotaru, Ashrah seeing as they had a more interesting design rather than someone that was a placeholder for another character.
