Kitana Combos in MK11

Man, I don't know how you guys pull off the dashes after fan lift. When do you input the dashes after the jump in exactly? It seems like either the dash doesn't come out, or I simply don't go far enough and my attacks afterwards just whiff. The only finisher I can occasionally get is f222 because it already has a lot of range and forward momentum, but it's not always ideal since I cannot execute the 8-hit combo to get the krushing blow; I may just not have the dexterity to pull it off. Kitana has always been one of my favorites, but I'm finding these combos way too hard because of all the dashing that's required, so I may need to hop to someone else, unfortunately. Is anyone else having the same struggle or were you able to get it down pretty quickly?

It's definatly not intuitive, especially if you aren't someone who practices combos a lot. But I urge you to stick with it. It's difficult now, but in a week it will feel natural. FYI you have to dash into the jump kick right after the fan lift as well and give it a second dash after the jump kick. I would try messing around with different timings on the jump kick. Once you get that done you'll get the rest of it.

Yeah, it's certainly one of those things where I'll just have to pour hours into it and hope I am eventually able to do it. I spent maybe an hour on that alone and it just wasn't coming out. Obviously, we're all at different levels, so hopefully it's not too embarrassing that it seems like that combo will take several more hours to get down, haha. I tried some sub-zero today but it seems he also requires a dash cancel for one of his krushing blows cries

When you say different timing on the jump kick, are you suggesting leaving the opponent suspended in the fan lift for a longer period of time, or how close/far away i am from the opponent when i jump kick? Either way, I'll just have to practice my ass off when the mood strikes me and see if I wake up one day doing the dashes properly.

Yeah, when I say try different timings I mean hit the jump kick a little deeper into the jump or hit the kick higher into the jump and any timings in between. The key to getting any combo down is first and for most never mash! Try to find the timing instead of just trying to get lucky. If or when you hit the combo, you want to be able to recreate it, so don't just keep mindlessly attempting it. Instead, take note of different timings on all parts of the combo and you'll get it a lot faster and more consistently.

I appreciate the info. I was definitely being a bit mindless just repeating the inputs over and over without putting too much thought into when/where i was jumping, so I'll be more methodical the next time I get into grind mode.

You know me as RisingShieldBro online.
So my midscreen bnb is:

stringxx db2, J2, J2, 12d2/ 12xxdf2

My corner is:

Stringxx db2, J3, S3xxdf1, 12d2/ 12xxdf2.

Midscreen is for a hard knockdown in their face and you can end it in b142 for a fullscreen option; both give massive corner carry.

The corner does 30% no meter with 40% using the KB

Do you even (fan) lift?
I have been getting more mileage out of the F222 end for mid-screen combos to avoid the side-switch and the damage loss isn't that bad. OKI isn't as good but I'd rather push my opponent to the corner than end-up there myself. Alternatively with meter to spare MB Square Wave is great for same-side OKI but the damage is pretty bad for 1 bar, though it's not like Kitana has anything else besides Fan Toss to spend the meter on.

Anything into sai stab lol. That’s all you do midscreen.

Corner is where she scores her damage, but you’re super dependent on b34.

Fujin and Ermac for MK 11
I just do a few basic combos and IAF's lol along with her mixs ups of overhead combos and lows, mids etc. I wish her DF2 had more reach seriously.

Anyone got some good BnB combos for Highborn variation?
Mid-screen you're SoL since Kitana has no pop-up, giving her probably the worst mid-screen damage out of the entire cast in Highborne. There's a very situational combo J.3/4 -> DB2 -> F2222, but has to be timed perfectly as a cross-up to work.

Corner your options are a little better and I'd recommend looking up Krazy Kards on youtube for his latest Kitana video. Still, having to rely on either J3/4 or B34 as openers to get the big damage makes Highborn super iffy, it's not worth playing at the moment imo.

I'm having a really tough time cancelling into the fan lift from B231. Also a bit of trouble getting B14 -> DF2 to hit when I do have a fan lift on. Really, I just want to get that krushing blow to go off from time to time but I think i've done it online like once. Is there anything obvious i'm probably doing wrong?

You're probably entering the fan lift too early when you do B231. Try waiting for the third part of the string to hit before entering the fan lift.

Does she not have a ground Square Wave BF3 anymore? It has to be done in the air now right?
You can do Square Wave on the ground if you have Ground War equipped in your variations. It’s in her first tournament variation, the one that also has Flutter and Royal Protection.

Thanks for the help. Her default setting in the variation menu doesn't even have Ground War Equipped! WTF?

Ah! There lies your problem. The joys of rushed fighting games.

You can overwrite the “default” variations with the tournament variations by going into kustomize and tabbing over to abilities then pressing square (PS4) or X (Xbox One). It’s a tedious process, but I recommend doing so for when you’re labbing other characters.

A short video on how to do this:

FFS NRS! I feel like a damn fool now. The tournament variations should be default in the Kustomization menu. I played Liu Kang and Jax before trying Kitana and seems like their default kustomizations had the competitive move set.

Be aware of the fact that with F2222 ender the opponent can full combo punish if breaks away after F2! My friend always did this so I started avoiding it and use J2, J2, 12xxender combos instead.
I can mess up J2, J2, sometimes though. :)

If you read they are going to do that, you can do f2~square wave instead. One of two things will happen depending exactly when they fall out. Either square wave connects and you bounce off with enough time to recover, or square wave whiffs and you end up out of range for a punish. If they don’t fall out, you can confirm and use a bar of meter to Amp square wave to get the same damage you would have from f2222 (actually it’s 1% higher).

This guy always has some good tech on his channel, but this is the best corner combo route I’ve seen, did not realize u could fit 2 j3 in that combo

I'm not sure if you got it yet, but you don't have to do the dash after J2 for the KB. You can use F3xxDF2.

B231xxDB2, J2, F3xxDF2 (KB)

It's not as much damage, but it's much easier to pull off until you get the harder combo.

This isn’t optimal at all, but it was from 3 weeks ago so I’ll let it slide. A lot of us are doing triple JKs in the corner.
