Oh man...I have so many complaints. I'll start with the positives first though. The game is beautiful. This is the best looking fighting game I have ever seen and it's not even close. Also, I'm really glad they finally figured out how to make realistic looking Asian people. Liu Kang and Kitana especially look great. Kitana is gorgeous.
Now on to my complaints. Speaking of Kitana -- why does a white woman do her voice? An Asian guy does LK's voice...black people do black characters' voices...just weird to me.
Next -- why have classic moves been messed with? Why doesn't scorpion's spear create a stagger and allow you to combo? Where is Jax's superman punch? I've only just started playing the game but it seems like more than a few of these classic moves are missing.
The roster is pretty weak. Not many characters and some of the all time greats are not included to make room for scrubs like Cetrion and Geras. We don't need Jacqui or Cassie. Not having Sektor and Cyrax as playable is unforgivable. Where are Smoke, Reptile, Rain, Kenshi, etc? This should be a huge roster and it's very underwhelming.
Also, the SJW'ing of the female costumes is really sad and pathetic. The costumes themselves don't really even matter that much, but the fact that NRS and MK of all companies/games would bow to the topical SJW bullshit is really depressing. This is game with the most graphic violence imaginable, but showing some T&A is too much? I kind of wonder if NRS has a new upper management schema or something because this change and the bullshit RNG grind seems so out of character...
I'm not a fan of variations. I don't like that some variations have some of the character's special moves, and other variations have others. I want one character with all of those moves, MK9 and before style.
Another huge one that many have touched on -- this game was marketed on customization. The huge problem here is that the customization options are only allowed in player matches. Ideally, I should be able to fully customize the way my character looks and the moves he has AND i should then be able to bring that character, as is, into ranked matches and into live tournaments. I know the latter presents difficulties for TO's that may not be feasible, but not having this option for online ranked at the minimum is unforgivable.
I won't even touch on the grindy towers BS because everyone else already has. What I will say is that I don't buy NRS' "apology stream" explanation for a second. It was never your intent to get players to buy in-game upgrades with real money? Okay then. Exactly how stupid do you think we are?
I haven't been back here in a bit, but 16-bit seemed very involved in the creative process of this game. What's his take on the fallout?
TL;DR: NRS fucked up and deserves every bit of the review bombing they're receiving for trying to greedily exploit its fanbase. I'm really surprised they'd do this. It sucks.
